In eukaryotic cells, proteins are translocated across the ER membrane through a continuous ribosome-translocon channel. It is unclear to what extent proteins can fold already within the ribosome-translocon channel, and previous studies suggest that only a limited degree of folding (such as the formation of isolated α-helices) may be possible within the ribosome. Insights into the Formation and Structures of Molecular Gels by Diimidazolium Salt Gelators in Ionic Liquids or “Normal” Solvents

Insights are provided into the properties of molecular gels formed by diimidazolium salts both in “normal” solvents and ionic liquids. These materials can be interesting for applications in green and sustainable chemistry in which ionic liquids play a significant role, like catalysis and energy. In particular, two positional isomers of a diimidazolium cation have been examined with a wide range of anions for their ability to form gel phases. The influence of branching isomerization on the product distribution obtained during cracking of n-heptane on acidic zeolites

Abstract The initial selectivities for the primary products occurring during the cracking of n-heptane on a rare-earth (RE)-HY ultrastable zeolite up to 470°C have been calculated. The activation energies for the cracking of n-heptane and its branched isomers in the fraction C4 + C3 have been obtained by molecular orbital calculations, and these values and the predicted product distribution have been compared with those obtained experimentally. It is concluded that the cracking of n-heptane on large-pore zeolites may take place by different parallel routes involving protolytic and β-cracking of n-heptane and β-cracking of the readily formed branched carbenium ions. Abstract The comparative studies on the association of Ac-ΔAla-NMe 2 and Ac- l -Ala-NMe 2 in carbon tetrachloride were performed by the analysis of their average molecular weight, dipole moments and FTIR spectra. To aid spectroscopic interpretation and gain some deeper insight into the nature of associates, the geometries of the minimum energy of the dimers of Ac-ΔAla-NMe 2 and Ac- l -Ala-NMe 2 were calculated by the B3LYP/6-31+G** method. Abstract Pumice-supported copper–palladium catalysts prepared from organometallic precursor have been tested in the hydrogenation of phenylacetylene and in the hydrogenation/isomerization of the but-1-ene. The structure and catalytic behaviour of the bimetallic catalysts depended on the different temperatures of reduction. The presence of CuO or Cu metal in an alloyed state with Pd influenced the two reactions. The system containing CuO is the most active and selective towards the formation of the monoalkene in the hydrogenation of the highly unsaturated hydrocarbon. The crystal structure of the title compound, C(16)H(16)FN(2)O(2) (+)·I(-), was determined as part of a study of the biological activity of isoxazolone derivatives as p38 mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK) inhibitors. The X-ray crystal structure of 4-[4-(4-fluoro-phenyl)-2-methyl-5-oxo-2,5-dihydro-isoxazol-3-yl]-1-methyl-pyridinium iodide showed the presence of the regioisomer 4-[3-(4-fluoro-phenyl)-2-methyl-5-oxo-2,5-dihydro-isoxazol-4-yl]-1-methyl-pyridinium iodide.
