As social practice theory (SPT) is the main theoretical foundation of the articles collected here, we outline its strengths and limitations, when compared with the dominant individual-oriented behaviour change approach, and we focus on theories of planned behaviour, social marketing as well as ‘choice architecture’, based on behavioural economics. This thesis examined how physical fitness is associated with self-reported physical activity (PA), eating habits and psychosocial factors among Finnish men who engaged in the Adventures of Joe Finn Campaign. The thesis comprises four original publications and supplementary results. The research framework utilizes the Health Action Process Approach (HAPA) and principles of social marketing. HAPA guides the explanation of health behaviors at the individual level within the wider framework of social marketing, which links the individual-level effects with the campaign.
