The relation between socio-relational self-efficacy and work engagement in an Italian sample of social workers
2008
This study examined how much in social workers the confidence about perceived socio-relational competencies is related to work engagement. We used a questionnaire delevoped to assess the socio- relational self-efficacy (according to the Bandura’s theory), and the UWES (Schaufeli & Bakker, 2003), a measure of work engagement, defined as a positive, fulfilling work-related state of mind. Subjects were interviewed in therapeutic commu- nities (for drug addicts, for abused women etc.) or family communities. It was found that some aspects of relational competence (like to feel able to understand others’ feelings) are strongly related to work engagement.
Child Welfare Systems and Migrant Children. A Cross Country Study of Policies and Practices / Sistemas de Bienestar Infantil y menores inmigrantes. U…
2015
With the increase of migration, the share of the population that needs some form of assistance has increased. Almost everywhere, the number of children who need protection (within the family, away from the family, and even those without family) has increased. The trouble is that often the systems designed to protect children do not intercept migrant children, not even those who are unaccompanied and without documents, who instead come under the jurisdiction of the agencies that deal with immigration. The migratory phenomena put a strain on the welfare systems, mainly because the principles of protection and assistance present in the Welfare system, which are inspired by human rights and soc…
Confronting the Medusa with Athena’s Shield: Empowering Social Workers with a Transformative Role in the Migration Field
2022
Along with existing challenges, there are new ones leading social workers to become involved in increasingly international intervention processes. This has led to the development of the concept of International Social Work (Hugman, Moosa-Mitha & Moyo, 2010; Cox & Pawar, 2006; Dominelli, 2010), which provides a good opportunity to both depart from old patterns of administering aid (Healy 2008) and to embody a perception of itself as a transformative actor (Wintergerst 2017, p. 236). Assuming that it is true that the presence of different cultures acts as a catalyst in the processes of change in society, then this is equally valid for the development of this profession (Di Rosa, 2021)…
Lessons learned from the facts on the ground and political demands for future agency
2021
Since the first “emergency migration” event in Italy (1990s), social work represented the interface and the filter between the Italian reception system and migrants, acting for initial assessment, orientation and “sorting" of migrants into the various local and national welfare agencies and in the network of public and private services within the reception system (Simone, 2020). Consequently, in addition to the more operational competences, social workers need to be supported by training, in-service training and supervision, in order to acquire, along with updated methods and knowledge, full awareness of the dictates of their deontological code; in accordance with this, there should be an a…

Models and innovative practices for welcoming and safeguarding unaccompanied migrant minors
2020
The number of unaccompanied minors (Uams) arriving in Italy, and in all parts of Europe, has been rising significantly in the last few years, and constitutes a particular phenomenon that has demanded considerable re-organization of the welcoming system and, more generally, the welfare system. The organization of a dedicated welcoming system was established over a certain period of time, through an approach of adaptation and experimentation. The first interventions were characterized by a continuous state of emergency, which prevented effective activation of programmed action. This critical situation still exists in certain Regions up to the present day. Despite the recent development of a n…
Desistenza dal crimine, riflessività, servizio sociale: considerazioni su una ricerca
2019
This paper analyzes the phenomenon of desistance from crime by deviant young people in some Sicilian cities. In these paths, individual and relational reflexivity is central. This is an original study, which focuses on the importance of the role of social workers as actors capable of strengthening the socio-educational rehabilitation pathways of deviant young people. The author demonstrates how the presence of relational reflexivity in the intervention of social workers and social services contributes to (re)activating in young people an individual reflexivity (proactive, responsible, prosocial) capable of directing them towards objectives of personal growth and adult responsibility.
Servizio sociale internazionale, responsabilità locale e partecipazione comunitaria: un caso studio inTanzania.
2021
International social work is a field of professional practice that is widespread in various countries around the world, yet still little explored in the literature and little known as a specific field of action. Exploring its definition and its possible applications in practice, starting from the analysis of a social work case study within an international project, aims to encourage the consolidation of a flexible, inclusive and plural thinking and method, necessary both for social workers working abroad, or in international exchange projects, and for those working with foreign users, offering the opportunity to broaden horizons and at the same time to strengthen the roots of the profession.

It then explores the contribution of the female professionals working in the shelters and the specific tools used by them in order to support migrant women victims of proximity violence.
CURA, RELAZIONE, PROFESSIONE: QUESTIONI DI GENERE NEL SERVIZIO SOCIALE
2021
