Joziknipholones A and B: The First Dimeric Phenylanthraquinones, from the Roots ofBulbine frutescens
2007
From the roots of the African plant Bulbine frutescens (Asphodelaceae), two unprecedented novel dimeric phenylanthraquinones, named joziknipholones A and B, possessing axial and centrochirality, were isolated, together with six known compounds. Structural elucidation of the new metabolites was achieved by spectroscopic and chiroptical methods, by reductive cleavage of the central bond between the monomeric phenylanthraquinone and -anthrone portions with sodium dithionite, and by quantum chemical CD calculations. Based on the recently revised absolute axial configuration of the parent phenylanthraquinones, knipholone and knipholone anthrone, the new dimers were attributed to possess the P-co…
Crystal structures and magnetic properties of uniform and alternating azido-bridged (2,2′-bipyridyl)copper(II) chains
1998
Abstract Single crystals of four copper(II) complexes of formula [Cu(bipy)(N3)2]n (1,2), [Cu(bipy)2(N3)(ClO4)] (3) and [Cubipy)2(N3)]ClO4 (4) (bipy=2,2′-bipyridine) were obtained from aqueous solutions containing (2,2′-bipyridyl) copper(II) perchlorate and sodium azide, and their crystal structures were determined by X-ray diffraction methods. The structures of compounds 1 and 4 were already known, but the better accuracy of our structural determination of complex 1 led us to reconsider it here. The structures of compounds 1 and 2 are made up of neutral chains of copper(II) ions bridged by two azide groups exhibiting asymmetrical end-on (1) and alternating asymmetrical end-on and end-to-end…
Stereocontrolled synthesis of five diastereomers of trimethyl 3-aminocyclopentane-1,2,4-tricarboxylates
2013
Abstract The sterically controlled oxidative cleavage of N - protected di exo - and di endo -substituted norbornene β-amino acids/esters resulted in four trimethyl 3-aminocyclopentane-1,2,4-carboxylate diastereomers. The sodium methoxide mediated isomerization of the four diastereomers in all cases yielded the thermodynamically most stable all- trans stereoisomer as a single product.
Study of Confined 5-Aza[5]helicene in Ytterbium(III) Bis(2-ethylhexyl) Sulfosuccinate Reversed Micelles
2007
Some relevant physicochemical properties of 5-aza[5]helicene (H5) in solutions of ytterbium bis(2-ethylhexyl) sulfosuccinate (Yb(DEHSS)3) reversed micelles have been investigated by UV-vis-NIR, photoluminescence, and FT-IR techniques with the aim of emphasizing the role played by specific Yb(III)/H5 interactions and confinement effects as driving forces of its binding to reversed micelles, preferential solubilization site, and local photophysical properties. It has been found that the binding strength of 5-aza[5]helicene to reversed micelles, triggered by steric and orientational constrains as well as the water content, is mainly regulated by its interaction with the Yb(III) counterion. Mor…
Increase in dissolution rate of sodium chlorate induced by elastic strain
2001
Recent experimental studies carried out on the kinetics of crystal growth in solution have revealed that mechanically induced elastic strain can have a strong influence on the crystal growth rate. We present experimental evidence to show that it can also strongly affect the dissolution rate. Sodium chlorate crystals held in an undersaturated sodium chlorate solution and uniaxially stressed in compression to values up to 15 MPa dissolved up to about 1.3 times faster than crystals free of stress. The increase in dissolution rate varies linearly with the stress.
Calculation of modification of alkali metal atomic transition probability in strong external magnetic field and its application
2010
International audience; Interaction of alkali atoms with external magnetic field induced a splitting and a shift of their energy levels. We have study this interaction for external field from 0 to 5000 Gauss when the alkali vapor is confined in submicron thin vapor cell with thickness L = λ/2. Rubidium and Sodium vapors have been studied. The Hamiltonian can be expressed as the sum of the unperturbated atomic Hamiltonian and the so-called Zeeman Hamiltonian. The probability of a transition, induced by the laser electric field is proportional to the square of the transfer coefficients modified by the presence of the magnetic field. We will show that the strong nonlinearity of the transition …
Reproducibility of trace element time-series (Na/Ca, Mg/Ca, Mn/Ca, Sr/Ca, and Ba/Ca) within and between specimens of the bivalve Arctica islandica – …
2017
Abstract Trace element time-series in bivalve mollusk shells and other (biogenic) materials can potentially serve as environmental proxies. Yet, the applicability of element-to-calcium ratios is often challenging, because non-environmental factors such as vital effects distort or mask environmental signals. If a trace element time-series is driven by an environmental factor, it should be reproducible within and between coeval specimens of the same species. In the present study, we tested whether time-series of trace element-to-calcium ratios can be reproduced within and between coeval specimens of the bivalve Arctica islandica and thus whether an external signal is encoded in the temporal v…
Dielectric and Elastic Parameters of LixNa1-xTa0.1Nb0.9O3 Ferroelectric Solid Solution Ceramics
2011
Results of the studies of electric and elastic parameters as functions of concentration in ferroelectric LiхNa1-хTa0.1Nb0.9O3 (x = 0–0.16) solid solutions and comparative studies of the elastic properties by acoustic and contact probe techniques are reported. The electric and elastic properties of LiхNa1-хTa0.1Nb0.9O3 solid solutions are shown to be rather sensitive to structural distortion at concentration-induced structural phase transitions. The values of elastic modules obtained from acoustic measurements are found to be in good agreement with those obtained by contact probe techniques.
Improvement of Resveratrol Permeation through Sublingual Mucosa: Chemical Permeation Enhancers versus Spray Drying Technique to Obtain Fast-Disintegr…
2021
Resveratrol (RSV) is a natural polyphenol with several interesting broad-spectrum pharmacological properties. However, it is characterized by poor oral bioavailability, extensive first-pass effect metabolism and low stability. Indeed, RSV could benefit from the advantage of the sublingual route of administration. In this view, RSV attitudes to crossing the porcine sublingual mucosa were evaluated and promoted both by six different chemical permeation enhancers (CPEs) as well as by preparing four innovative fast-disintegrating sublingual mini-tablets by spray drying followed by direct compression. Since RSV by itself exhibits a low permeation aptitude, this could be significantly enhanced by…
GHB related acids are useful in routine casework of suspected GHB intoxication cases
2021
Abstract GHB related acids (3,4-dihydroxy butyric acid, 2,4-dihydroxy butyric acid and glycolic acid) are produced through oxidative GHB metabolism. These analytes could be potential biomarkers to ensure the diagnosis of a GHB intoxication and even prolong the detection window. Within this study, forensic routine cases were measured to consider the potential of additional gas chromatographic mass spectrometric analysis on these acids. 17 GHB positive real cases (10 serum samples and 7 urine samples) and 40 cases with suspicion of drugging in DFC cases and negative GHB results (21 serum samples and 19 urine samples) were evaluated. Increased GHB related acid concentrations were detected in a…
