The role of lactate besides the lactic acidosis

Lactic acidosis (LA) is the most common form of metabolic acidosis defined by values of lactate greater than 5 mmol / l and by a pH <7.34. The pathogenesis of LA involves hypoxic (type A) and non hypoxic (type B) causes which are often coexisting. Lactic acidosis is usual in hospitalized population especially in subjects in intensive care units, in which lactate levels on admission could be predictors of mortality even in the absence of organ dysfunction or shock. The interaction of Cu2+ and Cd2+ ions with polyacrylates (PAA, 2 kDa and 100 kDa), polymetacrylate(PMA, 5.4 kDa), and alginate (AA, 70 kDa to 100 kDa) was studied by potentiometry, using ISE-Cu2+, ISE-Cd2+, and ISE-H+ electrodes. The investigations were performed in NaNO3 aqueous solutions, in the ionic strength range 0.10 e I (mol ·L-1) e 0.75, at T ) 298.15 K. The “diprotic-like model” was used to explain the acid-base behavior of the polycarboxylates under investigation (for this model, the monomeric unit of the polyelectrolyte is considered as a dicarboxylate). NG-monomethyl-L-arginine and NG-nitro-L-arginine inhibit endothelium-dependent relaxations in human isolated omental arteries.

Abstract The L-arginine analogues NG-monomethyl-l-arginine (l-NMMA, 10−4  m) and NG-nitro-L-arginine methyl ester (l-NAME, 10−4  m), which specifically inhibit the synthesis of nitric oxide from l-arginine, significantly reduced acetylcholine-induced endothelium-dependent relaxations in rings of human omental arteries. The inhibitory potency of l-NMMA and l-NAME was similar. Addition of l-NMMA or l-NAME to the organ bath did not induce any significant changes in the resting tension of the tissues. Comparison of Structure and Properties of Differently Treated Illite Clay and Products

The investigation is focused on modification of the structure 2:1 sheet silicates - illite clay by subjecting them to chemical and microbiological impact. It is shown that alkaline activation of illite clay by sodium hydroxide leads to the slight structural changes mainly characterized by water link changes. The effect of bacteria Ps. fluorescens AM PS11on structure changes of illite is small and is influenced on rheology of treated clay.It is shown that the influence of chemical treatment on porosity, bulk density and increase of compressive strength of sintered ceramic samples is notable.

Calcium Pre-Rinse: Effect on permeability of dentin tubules by fluoride rinse

Background The aim of this study was to evaluate whether calcium (CaL) solution would enhance the capacity of sodium fluoride (NaF) solution in reducing the permeability of hypersensitive dentin. Material and Methods Thirty-two Wistar rats ingested for 45 days acidic isotonic drink (Gatorade, pH 2.7) ad libitum to induce dental erosion. Nature of cobalt active species in hydrodesulfurization catalysis: combined support and preparation method effects

Abstract Co/γ-Al2O3, Co/SiO2, Co/MCM-41, Co/ASA and Co/S2 (amorphous aluminosilicate with Al/Si = 0.13 and with Al/Si ≈ 2, respectively) were prepared by the method of wet impregnation and by the method of precipitation in the presence of sodium carbonate. The samples were characterised by XPS, XRD and TPR. The catalytic activity was tested in the hydrodesulfurization of thiophene using a continuous flow reactor.
