A Predictive Approach for the Efficient Distribution of Agent-Based Systems on a Hybrid-Cloud
2018
International audience; Hybrid clouds are increasingly used to outsource non-critical applications to public clouds. However, the main challenge within such environments, is to ensure a cost-efficient distribution of the systems between the resources that are on/off premises. For Multi Agent Systems (MAS), this challenge is deepened due to irregular workload progress and intensive communication between the agents, which may result in high computing and data transfer costs. Thus, in this paper we propose a generic framework for adaptive cost-efficient deployment of MAS with a special focus on hybrid clouds. The framework is based mainly on the use of a performance evaluation process that con…
CultReal—A Rapid Development Platform for AR Cultural Spaces, with Fused Localization
2021
Virtual and augmented reality technologies have known an impressive market evolution due to their potential to provide immersive experiences. However, they still have significant difficulties to enable fully fledged, consumer-ready applications that can handle complex tasks such as multi-user collaboration or time-persistent experiences. In this context, CultReal is a rapid creation and deployment platform for augmented reality (AR), aiming to revitalize cultural spaces. The platform’s content management system stores a representation of the environment, together with a database of multimedia objects that can be associated with a location. The localization component fuses data from beacons …
Dual Connectivity in Non-Stand Alone Deployment mode of 5G in Manhattan Environment
2020
| openaire: EC/H2020/815191/EU//PriMO-5G The main target of this paper is to analyze the performance of an outdoor user in a dense micro cellular Manhattan grid environment using a ray launching simulation tool. The radio propagation simulations are performed using a Shoot and Bouncing Ray (SBR) method. The network performance is analyzed at three different frequencies i.e. 1.8 GHz, 3.5 GHz, and 28 GHz. Additionally, the benefits of combining LTE and potential 5G frequency bands by using feature of Dual Connectivity (DC) in an outdoor scenario has been highlighted. The considered performance metrics are received signal level, SINR, application throughput. The acquired simulation results fro…
Context-Aware RF-Energy Harvesting for IoT Networks
2021
Energy Harvesting plays a crucial role in improving the operational lifetime of IoT devices. The deployment of dedicated RF-transmitters helps in sufficient energy propagation to the sensor nodes of IoT networks. Also, energy harvesting using the deployment of such RF-transmitters is a challenging issue. In this work, two methods are proposed for the optimal placement of RF-transmitters for efficient energy harvesting in wireless sensor networks. The proposed context-aware RF-energy harvesting considers different network performance parameters such as energy-hole information, and data routing information. RF-transmitter deployment is achieved using network connectivity information in the fi…
Energy market segmentation for distributed energy resources implementation purposes
2007
The new power market scene has made its actors aware of the importance of offering customers a set of products according to their specific needs. At the same time, a desirable massive deployment of distributed energy resources would require that the products be designed for specific purposes for each type of customer. For these reasons, it is essential to identify the energy behaviour of different customer segments existing in the electricity market. This paper presents a segmentation methodology that allows the identification of different types of customers in accordance with their energy use. This segmentation is conceptually different from the one that is currently performed by the utili…
Adoption of Constrained Application Protocol
2016
Among billions of Internet enabled devices that are expected to surround us in the near future, many will be resource constrained, i.e., will have limited power supply, processing power and memory. To cope with these limitations, the Constrained Application Protocol (CoAP) has been recently introduced as a lightweight alternative to HTTP for connecting the resource limited devices to the Web. Although the new protocol offers solid technical advantages, it remains uncertain whether a successful uptake will follow, as it depends also on its economic feasibility for the involved stakeholders. Therefore, this paper studies the techno-economic feasibility of CoAP using a systematic methodologica…
UML-Based Reliability Modeling of Network Services, a UDP Echo Service Case Study
2009
In the paper, we discuss state space reliability modeling formalism of distributed systems and services compliant with UML metamodel. Behavior of modeled application system we describe in terms of states. Service generation process we represent as a sequence of application system states. State space approach allows us to define dependence between application system components via dependence between components states and states input, output parameters. Reliability of application system component we define for each simply action state. Reliability of a service we express by components reliability in states determined by service generation process. As an example, we analyze reliability of cli…
A New Platform for Automatic Bottom-Up Electric Load Aggregation
2017
In this paper, a new virtual framework for load aggregation in the context of the liberalized energy market is proposed. Since aggregation is managed automatically through a dedicated platform, the purchase of energy can be carried out without intermediation as it happens in peer-to-peer energy transaction models. Differently from what was done before, in this new framework, individual customers can join a load aggregation program through the proposed aggregation platform. Through the platform, their features are evaluated and they are clustered according to their reliability and to the width of range of regulation allowed. The simulations show the deployment of an effective clustering and …
A Mobile Healthcare System for Sub-saharan Africa
2013
The disparity between healthcare systems in developed countries and underdeveloped countries is huge, particularly due to the fact that the healthcare infrastructure of former is based on a sophisticated technological infrastructure. Efforts are being made worldwide to bridge this disparity and make healthcare services affordable even to the most remote areas of undeveloped countries. Recent growth of mobile networks in underdeveloped countries argues for building mHealth systems and applications on their basis. However, peculiarities of the area introduce difficulties into potential use cases of mobile devices, thus making the copying of mHealth services from developed countries inapplicab…
