How to prevent cyber-attacks in inter-vehicle communication network?

2015

In this work, we aim to secure communication in a vehicular network by providing a proactive mechanism that can detect and predict with a high accuracy the future behavior of malicious attacker. In fact, the mechanisms proposed in the literature consider only detection mechanisms and do not prevent attacks that may arise in the network. Simulation results show that our mechanism has a high detection rate, low false positive rate while generating a low communication overhead.

HINTS: A novel approach for realistic simulations of vehicular communications

2012

One of the main challenges in the Vehicular Ad-Hoc Networks (VANETs) research domain is the simulation of vehicular communications using realistic mobility models. Several efforts have been put lately in this purpose; yet, the proposed models are either inappropriate, or carry significant disadvantages. In this paper, we propose a novel approach for realistic simulations in vehicular networks, inspired from the hierarchical video and image compression technique. We developed HINTS (Hybrid Integration of Network and Traffic Simulators), the correspondent platform, engendered from the integration of SUMO, a traffic simulator and NS-3, a network simulator after adding some supplemental modules…

Automatische Klassifikation der Lebersegmente nach Couinaud: Entwicklung eines neuen Algorithmus und Evaluierung an Spiral-CT-Datensätzen

2003

Purpose: To develop a software tool that analyzes the anatomy of the portal vein branches and assigns segmental and subsegmental branches according to Couinaud's classification system and to evaluate its accuracy. Materials and Methods: The algorithm was developed in C++ on a PC. The algorithm recognizes the three major branching patterns of the portal vein. Segmental and subsegmental branches are assigned to 8 segments following Couinaud and encoded by 8 colors. The software was evaluated using CT data sets of 39 patients. After the individual segmental anatomy of each patient was determined by an experienced radiologist, automatic classification was performed and the results were compared…

Market Polarization due to Difference in Interface Implementation Efforts

2009

Another factor potentially affecting the evolution of the OSS/BSS software market is the high complexity of software interfaces. The software provided to a customer – a CSP – needs to be integrated with a number of heterogeneous subsystems deployed by the customer. If the number of integration interfaces is high, a vast amount of special knowledge is needed in the vendor organization. High integration efforts also take up the time of the compentent employees of the vendor organization, thereby reducing the number of customers which it is capable of serving. As a result, only few large vendors can compete in such market, and, due to a lack of competition, the evolution towards a horizontaliz…

The Potsdam Open Source Radio Interferometry Tool (PORT)

2021

The Potsdam Open Source Radio Interferometry Tool (PORT) is the very long baseline interferometry (VLBI) analysis software developed and maintained at the GFZ German Research Centre for Geosciences. Chiefly, PORT is tasked with the timely processing of VLBI sessions and post-processing activities supporting the generation of celestial and terrestrial reference frames. In addition, it serves as a framework for research and development within the GFZ's VLBI working group and is part of the tool set employed in educating young researchers. Starting out from VLBI group delays, PORT estimates station and radio sources positions, as well as Earth orientation parameters, tropospheric parameters, a…

The PAPIA system

1991

In 1983 an Italian research program was begun for the design, simulation and construction of a multiprocessor image processing system. After a first phase devoted to the comparison of suggested and existing systems and to the definition of a set of benchmarks, a new system was defined. The structure of this new system is introduced here: it is based on a fine-grained pyramid of processors built up by means of a pyramidal cell implemented on a VLSI multiprocessor chip. The peculiarities and the capabilities of the processing element are highlighted. The complete hardware and software system has been fully designed and is described. A first working prototype has been built and is now operatio…

Fault Emulation for Dependability Evaluation of VLSI Systems

2008

Advances in semiconductor technologies are greatly increasing the likelihood of fault occurrence in deep-submicrometer manufactured VLSI systems. The dependability assessment of VLSI critical systems is a hot topic that requires further research. Field-programmable gate arrays (FPGAs) have been recently pro posed as a means for speeding-up the fault injection process in VLSI systems models (fault emulation) and for reducing the cost of fixing any error due to their applicability in the first steps of the development cycle. However, only a reduced set of fault models, mainly stuck-at and bit-flip, have been considered in fault emulation approaches. This paper describes the procedures to inje…

Visual spike-based convolution processing with a Cellular Automata architecture

2010

this paper presents a first approach for implementations which fuse the Address-Event-Representation (AER) processing with the Cellular Automata using FPGA and AER-tools. This new strategy applies spike-based convolution filters inspired by Cellular Automata for AER vision processing. Spike-based systems are neuro-inspired circuits implementations traditionally used for sensory systems or sensor signal processing. AER is a neuromorphic communication protocol for transferring asynchronous events between VLSI spike-based chips. These neuro-inspired implementations allow developing complex, multilayer, multichip neuromorphic systems and have been used to design sensor chips, such as retinas an…

Optimized FPGA-implementation of quadrature DDS

2003

This paper presents the optimized implementation of high performance quadrature direct digital synthesizers (DDS). Although VLSI designs and optimizations have already been discussed in the literature they may not be successfully translated into an FPGA-based technology. This work examines each phase-to-amplitude mapping technique, such as ROM compression and partitioning techniques and the CORDIC algorithm, and it proposes the most suitable structure for Virtex FPGAs in order to obtain the most efficient implementation in terms of area and throughput.

Machine Learning approach towards real time assessment of hand-arm vibration risk

2021

Abstract In industry 4,0, the establishment of an interconnected environment where human operators cooperate with the machines offers the opportunity for substantially improving the ergonomics and safety conditions of the workplace. This topic is discussed in the paper referring to the vibration risk, which is a well-known cause of work-related pathologies. A wearable device has been developed to collect vibration data and to segment the signals obtained in time windows. A machine learning classifier is then proposed to recognize the worker’s activity and to evaluate the exposure to vibration risks. The experimental results demonstrate the feasibility and effectiveness of the methodology pr…
