In general, cell wall-degrading enzymes produced by plant pathogenic fungi are considered important pathogenicity factors. In this work, we evaluate the implication of xyloglucan endotransglucosylase/ hydrolase (XTHs), a potential hemicellulosic repairing enzyme, in the infection mechanism process by the fungus. Summary The main objective of the present study was to test the hypothesis that increased concentrations of ethylene under conditions of limited gas exchange during in vitro cultivation of potato ( Solanum tuberosum L.) stem explants may lead to increased capaciry of antioxidative defense. By varying the tightness of closure and application of inhibitors of ethylene biosynthesis it was possible to accumulate various concentrations of ethylene in the internal atmosphere of culture flasks, which depended on excision-stress induced ethylene biosynthesis. C7(P32) and C6(P34) PR proteins induced in tomato leaves by citrus exocortis viroid infection are chitinases

[EN] Two chitinases induced in tomato leaves (Lycopersicon esculentum Mill cv. Rutgers) by citrus exocortis viroid (CEV) infection were purified. Their molecular masses determined by sodium dodecyl sulfate-gel electrophoresis were 32 kDa and 34 kDa and by filtration through Sephadex G-100 were 23 kDa and 25 kDa, respectively. These chitinases (P32 and P34) have been shown to be identical to the tomato pathogenesis-related proteins C7 and C6. They were purified in three stages: ammonium sulphate fractionation, chitin affinity chromatography and CM-Sepharose chromatography. Se da noticia del hallazgo y presencia actual de "Atropa baetica" Willk. (Solanaceae) en una localidad de la Alta Alcarria, municipio de Utande (provincia de Guadalajara). Se indica la cuadrícula U.T.M. de 1×1 km donde se encuentra. Se presentan datos ecológicos y fitogeográficos básicos sobre su emplazamiento, algunos datos vegetativos descriptivos de los dos rodales o conjuntos de tallos encontrados y comentarios sobre posibles amenazas de la escueta población. Finalmente, se comenta la relación de esta nueva cita con referencias antiguas publicadas en la bibliografía.

Quantitation of Free and Glycosidically Bound Volatiles in and Effect of Glycosidase Addition on Three Tomato Varieties (Solanum lycopersicumL.)

The volatile fractions of three tomato cultivars (p73, Jorge, and Durinta) were studied in both free and glycosidically bound forms. The possibility of increasing the concentration of free volatile compounds by adding selected glycosidases was also tested. The free volatile fraction (FVF) of tomato juice was directly determined by headspace solid-phase microextraction (SPME). To analyze the glycosidically bound fraction (GBF), tomato juice samples were extracted with C18 cartridges and the resulting glycoside extracts were enzymatically hydrolyzed. Combining Hexanoic Acid Plant Priming with Bacillus thuringiensis Insecticidal Activity against Colorado Potato Beetle

Interaction between insect herbivores and host plants can be modulated by endogenous and exogenous compounds present in the source of food and might be successfully exploited in Colorado potato beetle (CPB) pest management. Feeding tests with CPB larvae reared on three solanaceous plants (potato, eggplant and tomato) resulted in variable larval growth rates and differential susceptibility to Bacillus thuringiensis Cry3Aa toxin as a function of the host plant. Purification of hydroperoxide lyase from green bell pepper (Capsicum annuum L.) fruits for the generation of C6-aldehydes in vitro.

The aim of this work was to compare the efficiency of different extracts of hydroperoxide lyase from green bell peppers in producing aldehydes: a crude extract, a chloroplastic fraction, and a purified enzyme were investigated. From a crude extract, the HPO lyase was purified by ion-exchange chromatography with a 22.3-fold increase in purification factor. Analysis by SDS-PAGE electrophoresis under denaturating conditions showed only one protein with a molecular weight of 55 kDa, whereas size-exclusion chromatography indicated a molecular weight of 170 kDa. We characterized the changes in cell-wall hemicellulosic polysaccharides and the hemicellulose-degrading enzymes associated with apple and tomato fruits infected by Penicillium expansum. Our results showed a reduction in the molecular mass of hemicelluloses, with this reduction being particularly notable in the xyloglucan associated with P. expansum infection. The activation of fungal beta-glucanases was also highlighted. Fruit xyloglucan endotransglucosylase/hydrolase (XTH)-specific activity decreased drastically during the infection process in both apple and tomato fruits.
