Optimal design of tuned liquid column dampers for seismic response control of base-isolated structures

In this paper, the use of a tuned liquid column damper (TLCD) as a cost-effective means to control the seismic response of a base-isolated structure is studied. A straightforward direct approach for the optimal design of such a device is proposed, considering a white noise model of the base excitation. On this base, a direct optimization procedure of the TLCD design parameters is performed and optimal design charts are presented as a ready-to-use practical design tool. Optimal Bounds on Plastic Deformations for Bodies Constituted of Temperature-Dependent Elastic Hardening Material

Bounds are investigated on the plastic deformations in a continuous solid body produced during the transient phase by cyclic loading not exceeding the shakedown limit. The constitutive model employs internal variables to describe temperature-dependent elastic-plastic material response with hardening. A deformation bounding theorem is proved. Bounds turn out to depend on some fictitious self-stresses and mechanical internal variables evaluated in the whole structure. An optimization problem, aimed to make the bound most stringent, is formulated. In most cases, their drawback is based on their low charge carrier mobility, which is directly related to the packing of the molecules both on local (amorphous versus crystalline) and on macroscopic (grain boundaries) length scales. Efficient blue emitting organic light emitting diodes based on fluorescent solution processable cyclic phosphazenes

Solution processable blue fluorescent dendrimers based on cyclic phosphazene (CP) cores incorporating amino-pyrene moieties have been prepared and used as emissive layers in organic light emitting diodes (OLEDs). These dendrimers have high glass transition temperatures, are monodisperse, have high purity via common chromatographic techniques, and form defect-free amorphous films via spin/dip coating. The solution processable blue light emitting OLEDs reach current efficiencies of 3.9 cd/A at brightness levels near 1000 cd/m2. Due to improvements in welfare, new food consumption concerns have emerged in Europe. Such concerns go beyond issues related to food safety and market prices. The volatile fraction plays an important role on the organoleptic properties and overall acceptability of fruit juices. This work reports for first time a non-targeted approach for the analysis of the volatile fraction of fruit juice by stir bar sorptive extraction (SBSE[1]) in liquid and vapour phase (HSSE[2]) at three extraction times (30, 60, and 120 min), two temperatures (room temperature and 40 °C), and two sample volumes (5 and 10 mL). La representación del miedo hacia el Otro ha sido una de las temáticas más recurrentes en el género de la ciencia ficción. En esta línea, esta investigación articula un análisis de la serie noruega Beforeigners en torno al discurso de la identidad. Desde una perspectiva cualitativa, se ha realizado un análisis textual que ha puesto de manifiesto que en la serie prevalecen los valores comunitarios y solidarios. En la discusión se han contrapuestos los resultados con otras series del género y se ha evidenciado que la serie rompe con las narrativas típicas de la ciencia ficción. Abstract (La 1 − c ,Sr c )CoO 3 (LSC) solid solutions are promising materials for high temperature electrochemical cells and cathodes of solid oxide fuel cells. The Density Functional Theory (DFT) was applied to calculate the energies of the different superstructures in LSC which are stable with respect to formation of anti-phase domains.
