Sensitivity and Efficiency of the INTEGRAL Imager

1995

A detailed simulation program of the INTEGRAL Imager has been written and implemented using the GEANT-3 Monte Carlo code. The expected detection efficiency and continuum sensitivity have been evaluated. The results obtained for the CsI configuration of the Imager are compared with those obtained with the new configuration which foresees a top plane made of CdTe solid state detector elements.

Resolving the atmospheric octant by an improved measurement of the reactor angle

2017

Taking into account the current global information on neutrino oscillation parameters we forecast the capabilities of future long baseline experiments such as DUNE and T2HK in settling the atmospheric octant puzzle. We find that a good measurement of the reactor angle $\theta_{13}$ plays a key role in fixing the octant of the atmospheric angle $\theta_{23}$ with such future accelerator neutrino studies.

The MuPix high voltage monolithic active pixel sensor for the Mu3e experiment

2015

Mu3e is a novel experiment searching for charged lepton flavor violation in the rare decay μ → eee. In order to reduce background by up to 16 orders of magnitude, decay vertex position, decay time and particle momenta have to be measured precisely. A pixel tracker based on 50 μm thin high voltage monolithic active pixel sensors (HV-MAPS) in a magnetic field will deliver precise vertex and momentum information. Test beam results like an excellent efficiency of >99.5% and a time resolution of better than 16.6 ns obtained with the MuPix HV-MAPS chip developed for the Mu3e pixel tracker are presented.

Predictive flavor symmetries of the neutrino mass matrix.

2007

Here we propose an $A_4$ flavour symmetry model which implies a lower bound on the neutrinoless double beta decay rate, corresponding to an effective mass parameter $M_{ee} \gsim 0.03$ eV, and a direct correlation between the expected magnitude of CP violation in neutrino oscillations and the value of $\sin^2\theta_{13}$, as well as a nearly maximal CP phase $\delta$.

Determination of the $\theta_{23}$ octant in LBNO

2014

According to the recent results of the neutrino oscillation experiment MINOS, the neutrino mixing angle $\theta_{23}$ may not be maximal ($45^{\circ}$). Two nearly degenerate solutions are possible, one in the lower octant (LO) where $\theta_{23}45^{\circ}$. Long baseline experiments measuring the $\nu_{\mu}\rightarrow\nu_{e}$ are capable of resolving this degeneracy. In this work we study the potential of the planned European LBNO experiment to distinguish between the LO and HO solutions.

Neutral Pion Threshold Production atQ2=0.05GeV2/c2and Chiral Perturbation Theory

2001

New data are presented on the $p({e,e}^{\ensuremath{'}}p){\ensuremath{\pi}}^{0}$ reaction at threshold at a four-momentum transfer of ${Q}^{2}\phantom{\rule{0ex}{0ex}}=\phantom{\rule{0ex}{0ex}}0.05{\mathrm{GeV}}^{2}{/c}^{2}$. The data were taken with the three-spectrometer setup of the A1 Collaboration at the Mainz Microtron MAMI. The complete center of mass solid angle was covered up to a center of mass energy of 4 MeV above threshold. Combined with measurements at three different values of the virtual photon polarization $\ensuremath{\epsilon}$, the structure functions ${\ensuremath{\sigma}}_{T}$, ${\ensuremath{\sigma}}_{L}$, ${\ensuremath{\sigma}}_{\mathrm{TT}}$, and ${\ensuremath{\sigma…

Forward tracking at the nexte+e−collider. Part I. The physics case

2009

n a series of notes we explore the detector requirements of the forward tracking region for a future e(+)e(-) collider with a center-of-mass energy in the range from 500 GeV to 3 TeV. In this first part we investigate the relevance of the forward region for a range of physics processes that are likely to be relevant in such a machine. We find that many examples can be found where excellent performance of the forward detector system may lead to a considerable increase of the physics output of the experiment. A particularly clear physics case can be made for the reconstruction of electrons at small polar angle.

Determination of the θ23 octant in long baseline neutrino experiments within and beyond the standard model

2018

The recent data indicate that the neutrino mixing angle $\theta_{23}$ deviates from the maximal-mixing value of 45$^\circ$, showing two nearly degenerate solutions, one in the lower octant (LO) ($\theta_{23}45^\circ$). We investigate, using numerical simulations, the prospects for determining the octant of $\theta_{23}$ in the future long baseline oscillation experiments. We present our results as contour plots on the ($\theta_{23}-45^\circ$, $\delta$)--plane, where $\delta$ is the $CP$ phase, showing the true values of $\theta_{23}$ for which the octant can be experimentally determined at 3$\,\sigma$, 2$\,\sigma$ and 1$\,\sigma$ confidence level. In particular, we study the impact of the p…

Investigation of nitrogen-related acceptor centers in indium selenide by means of photoluminescence: Determination of the hole effective mass

1997

In this work we report on steady-state and time-resolved photoluminescence (PL) measurements in nitrogen-doped p-type indium selenide in the 33--210-K temperature range. In samples with low nitrogen concentration the photoluminescence spectrum consists of exciton-related peaks and a band-to-acceptor recombination peak (2.1-\ensuremath{\mu}s lifetime) with LO-phonon replica. An ionization energy of 65.5 meV is proposed for the nitrogen-related acceptor. A long-lived (18 \ensuremath{\mu}s) component, which consists of an asymmetric broadband centered around the acceptor peak, has been also detected by means of time-resolved PL. Samples with a higher nitrogen concentration show a PL spectrum t…

Photoproduction of mesons and Compton scattering on the proton: Selected results from the A2 Collaboration at MAMI

2020

The A2 Collaboration performs a manifold research program using real photons in the Crystal Ball/TAPS experiment at the MAMI accelerator facility in Mainz. The experiments take advantage of high- intensity unpolarized, linearly or circularly polarized photon beams, and unpolarized or polarized targets. The detector setup provides almost complete coverage in solid angle and is well suited for the detection of multi particle final states. In order to probe the internal structure of the nucleon, the spectrum of baryon resonances is studied via measurements of unpolarized cross sections and various polarization observables in single and double meson photoproduction. The program aiming to determ…
