A sun-induced vegetation fluorescence retrieval method from top of atmosphere radiance for the FLEX/Sentinel-3 TanDEM mission
2015
A new fluorescence retrieval method is proposed to support ESA's 8th Earth Explorer FLuorescence EXplorer/Sentinel-3 (FLEX-S3) candidate tandem mission. FLEX is the first mission specially dedicated to measure the Sun-Induced vegetation chlorophyll fluorescence (SIF) strongly related with the vegetation photosynthetic activity. Most hyperspectral fluorescence retrieval algorithms available in the literature are very sensitive to true reflectance modelization and/or they assume the atmospheric status as known. The proposed algorithm delivers the retrieval of full fluorescence spectrum at canopy level by using only Top Of Atmosphere (TOA) radiances from S3 and FLEX as input. Once the spatial …
Quantum wells within quantum dots, a CdS/HgS nanoheterostructure with global and local confinement
1998
Semiconductor nanocrystals prepared by methods of wet chemistry are similar to MBE grown quantum dots where the mobility of the charge carriers is reduced to zero dimensionality. In this paper we summarize the physics of a unique system in which the charge carriers are locally confined within a heterogeneous quantum dot. With high resolution electron microscopy we will show that epitaxial growth ot atomic layer precision is possible by methods of solution chemistry leading to CdS quantum dots with embedded HgS quantum wells (QDQWs). The photophysics of this system is investigated by time-correlated single photon counting, transient differential absorption and fluorescence line narrowing spe…
Regional newspapers’ sourcing strategies: Changes in media-citation and self-citation from a longitudinal perspective
2018
In the light of profound transformation processes shaping news media markets during the last decade, in particular local and regional news markets are confronted with consolidation and concentration processes. As a result, newspaper organizations are required to adapt their organizational strategies and editorial routines to face these challenges. Among journalistic routines, the use of sources is a prime example for an analysis of changing patterns in news production. This article investigates regional newspaper’s use of self- and media-citations in a longitudinal design (1995, 2006, 2015). Based on a content analysis of German regional newspapers (N = 4713 articles), we illustrate changi…
Cognitive intelligent sensory system for vision-based quality control
2003
This paper presents an original approach for a vision-based quality control system, built around a cognitive intelligent sensory system. The principle of the approach relies on two steps. First, a so-called initialization phase leads to structural knowledge on image acquisition conditions, type of illumination sources, etc. Second, the image is iteratively evaluated using this knowledge and complementary information (e.g., CAD models, and tolerance information). Finally, the information describing the quality of the piece under evaluation is extracted. A further aim of the approach is to enable building strategies that determine for instance the “next best view” required for completing the …
How can mega events and ecological orientation improve city brand attitudes?
2014
Purpose – The purpose of this study is to examine to what extent emotional experiences lived in mega-events and ecological orientation of citizens could act as direct antecedents of city brand attitude improvements. In addition, it addresses the effect in terms of a perceived quality of life that a city brand consolidation would be able to bring the citizens of a particular place. Cities must manage and administer their geographical territories as if they were brands, seeking to increase the benefits to society. Design/methodology/approach – An empirical study was performed by collecting information from 398 residents of Aguascalientes (Mexico) during the National Fair of San Marcos in 201…
Human-Animal Relationships in Supported Housing: Animal Atmospheres for Mental Health Recovery
2021
Being in a relationship with an animal can promote the well-being of people. For many individuals, this usually takes place at home. This study reports about homes for people with mental health problems (with or without co-occurring substance use), who live in supported housing operated by public landlords, entailing tenancies that are usually stricter regarding their pet policies than ordinary homes. We thus addressed the following research questions through ethnographic fieldwork at seven distinct places: which types of human–animal relationships occur in supported housing, and how do they affect the tenants? We analyzed the collected data informed by the Grounded Theory approach and foun…
Stakeholder Engagement, Corporate Social Responsibility and Integrated Reporting: An Exploratory Study
2013
There is increasing interest in integrated reporting that includes the company's financial, governance, environmental, and social performance. For this reason, the main objective of this investigation is to study why companies are producing integrated reporting, paying special attention to the links with the assurance of the corporate social responsibility (CSR) report. Based on 7144 worldwide observations, this study identifies the determinants of integrated reporting through a logistic regression model. Our results point out that the likelihood of disclosing an integrated report is positively associated with having the CSR report assured, year, size and supplement industry. Next, we teste…
Czy administracja publiczna musi wykonywać zadania z zakresu pomocy społecznej?
2020
The WFOT strikes back!
2015
In October 2014 I was elected President of the WFOT. I want to thank here the support of Dr. Lamberto Re, Professor Nabil Mawsof and Dr. Mark Weisser, that encouraged to me assume this task. Six society members and 20 individual members from 10 more countries were awaiting to grow. Our bylaws, written 9 years before, were not adapted to the current worldwide situation of the ozone therapy; even inside WFOT, some situations needed formalization, so updating the bylaws was a mandatory task.

With the huge help of Dr. Re, now President of the FIO, I was able to update the WFOT bylaws, so we started regularizing the minor issues inside WFOT and, together with Dr. Re, we both started…
