EXAFS study of ceria–lanthana-based TWC promoters prepared by sol–gel routes

Extended X-ray absorption fine structure (EXAFS) experiments at the Ce K- and La K-edges were performed on ceria–lanthana–alumina three-way catalysts promoters prepared by sol–gel routes, in order to investigate the effect of lanthanum doping on the ceria structure. The formation of Ce1−xLaxO2−x/2 solid solution, already observed by X-ray diffraction, was confirmed by EXAFS analysis, while no experimental evidence of a Ce–Al interaction was found. In presence of cerium and aluminum, lanthanum is involved in the formation of solid solution with CeO2 and of La–Al compounds. DNA barcoding reveals different cestode helminth species in northern European marine and freshwater ringed seals

Three subspecies of the ringed seal (Pusa hispida) are found in northeastern Europe: P. h. botnica in the Baltic Sea, P. h saimensis in Lake Saimaa in Finland, and P. h. ladogensis in Lake Ladoga in Russia. We investigated the poorly-known cestode helminth communities of these closely related but ecologically divergent subspecies using COI barcode data. Our results show that, while cestodes from the Baltic Sea represent Schistocephalus solidus, all worms from the two lakes are identified as Ligula intestinalis, a species that has previously not been reported from seals. Abstract The efficiency for the extraction of U(VI) of new modified silica gels, namely N-tripropionate (or N-triacetate)-substituted tetraazamacrocycles-bound silica gels, has been studied. The effect of the nature of the ligand, the pH and the temperature was studied both in batch experiments as well as in continuous extraction. These silica gels are good candidates for the extraction of U(VI) when compared to a commercially available acid-type chelating resin. The breakthrough and regeneration tests showed that the total removal of U(VI) from a contaminated solution can be achieved by using a column packed with such tetraazamacrocycles-bound silica gels. Ferrimagnetic Heisenberg chain; influence of a random exchange interaction

We report on the magnetic behavior of ‘‘rigid’’ ferrimagnetic chains isolated in bimetallic complexes of the EDTA and ‘‘flexible’’ ones obtained in the amorphous variety. As shown by LAXS, the only noteworthy difference in the amorphous state is the random distribution of bond angles between nearest neighbors within chains. The ‘‘rigid’’ bimetallic chains in CoNi(EDTA)6H2O are described in terms of Heisenberg model with an exchange coupling J=−7.5 K. The behavior of the amorphous variety somewhat differs, following the law X=AT−0.8 typical of REHAC. Abstract This paper describes the development and validation of an analytical methodology to determine eight perfluorinated compounds (PFCs) in edible fish using pressurized liquid extraction (PLE) with water and solid-phase extraction (SPE) with an ion-exchanger as extraction and pre-concentration procedures, followed by liquid chromatography–quadrupole-linear ion trap mass spectrometry (LC–QqLIT–MS). Inverse simulated annealing for the determination of amorphous structures

We present a new and efficient optimization method to determine the structure of disordered systems in agreement with available experimental data. Our approach permits the application of accurate electronic structure calculations within the structure optimization. The new technique is demonstrated within density functional theory by the calculation of a model of amorphous carbon.

Abstract Barium metatitanate BaTiO 3 is the main component of the dielectric material of class 2 ceramic capacitors. The solid state reaction between BaCO 3 and TiO 2 is still one of the main industrial ways for the BaTiO 3 preparation. The aim of the paper is to propose a coherent set of interfacial reactions in order to explain all the experimental results previously published about this well known solid state reaction.
