Electron-Deficient Pyridylimines: Versatile Building Blocks for Functional Metallosupramolecular Chemistry

2017

Metallosupramolecular systems heavily rely on the correct choice of ligands to obtain materials with desired properties. Engaging this problem, we present three ligand systems and six of their mono- and dinuclear complexes, based on the subcomponent self-assembly approach using electron-deficient pyridylcarbaldehyde building blocks. The properties are examined in solution by NMR and UV-vis spectroscopy and CV measurements as well as in solid state by single crystal X-ray diffraction analysis. Ultimately, the choice of ligands allows for fine-tuning of the electronic properties of the metal centers, complex-to-complex transformations, as well as establishing distinct anion-π-interaction moti…

Diffusion of small molecules in edible films: Effect of water and interactions between diffusant and biopolymer

2008

Mass transfers of various molecules in multiphasic food products lead to quality modification and thus require the use of edible films or coatings in-between the foodstuff. Consequently, it is important to assess the barrier properties and efficiencies of edible films as well as to determine the diffusivities of the migrants. Translational diffusion of a reference molecule such as fluorescein, determined by the fluorescence recovery after photobleaching (FRAP) method, displays a threshold of a critical water content inducing an increase of the molecular mobility, and demonstrates that multiple populations of a single molecular specie can be involved in different diffusion kinetics. Further …

Cobalt-Containing Silicotungstate Sandwich Dimer [{Co3(B-β-SiW9O33(OH))(B-β-SiW8O29(OH)2)}2]22-

2005

The 6-cobalt-substituted [{Co3(B-beta-SiW9O33(OH))(B-beta-SiW8O29(OH)2)}2]22- has been characterized by IR and UV-vis spectroscopy, elemental analysis, magnetic studies, electrochemistry, and gel filtration chromatography. A single-crystal X-ray analysis was carried out on K10Na12[{Co3(B-beta-SiW9O33(OH))(B-beta-SiW8O29(OH)2)}2].49H2O (KNa-1), which crystallizes in the monoclinic system, space group P2(1)/n, with a=19.9466(8) A, b=24.6607(10) A, c=34.0978(13) A, beta=102.175(1) degrees, and Z=2. Polyanion 1 represents a novel class of asymmetric sandwich-type polyanions. It contains three cobalt ions, which are encapsulated between an unprecedented (B-beta-SiW9O34) fragment and a (B-beta-Si…

Axiomatic characterization of the weighted solidarity values

2014

Abstract We define and characterize the class of all weighted solidarity values . Our first characterization employs the classical axioms determining the solidarity value (except symmetry ), that is, efficiency , additivity and the A-null player axiom , and two new axioms called proportionality and strong individual rationality . In our second axiomatization, the additivity and the A-null player axioms are replaced by a new axiom called average marginality .

Sample Preparation to Determine Pharmaceutical and Personal Care Products in an All-Water Matrix: Solid Phase Extraction

2020

© 2020 by the authors. Pharmaceuticals and personal care products (PPCPs) are abundantly used by people, and some of them are excreted unaltered or as metabolites through urine, with the sewage being the most important source to their release to the environment. These compounds are in almost all types of water (wastewater, surface water, groundwater, etc.) at concentrations ranging from ng/L to µg/L. The isolation and concentration of the PPCPs from water achieves the appropriate sensitivity. This step is mostly based on solid-phase extraction (SPE) but also includes other approaches (dispersive liquid-liquid microextraction (DLLME), buckypaper, SPE using multicartridges, etc.). In this rev…

Histological evaluation of the effect of low-level laser on distraction osteogenesis in rabbit mandibles

2009

Objectives: This study evaluated the action of low level laser therapy (LLLT) on the percentage of newly formed bone in rabbit mandibles that underwent distraction osteogenesis (DO). Study design: Ten rabbits underwent bone lengthening according to the following protocol: Latency ? 3 days; Activation ? 7 days 0.7 mm/d; and Consolidation ? 10 days. The control group was composed of 4 rabbits. The experimental group, composed of 6 rabbits, received infrared GaAlAs LLLT (?=830 nm, P=40 mW) according to the following protocol: point dose of 10 J/cm2 applied directly on the bone site that underwent DO during bone consolidation at 48-hour intervals. Results: The percentage of newly formed bone wa…

The Consolidation of Donatism in the First Half of the Fourth Century

2019

The Donatist Movement represents a phenomenon that can be studied as a paradigm for the emergence of schisms and their evolution from a canonical-disciplinary deviation to a dogmatic-moral one, transforming the dissident group into a heretical one. This study aims to deepen the way in which the resistance of the Numidian clergy was consolidated during the Constantinian dynasty despite the concessions and pressures exerted on it.  Keywords: Constantine the Great, North Africa, Donatism, Donatus Magnus, circumcelliones

Effects of Acute Stress on the Oscillatory Activity of the Hippocampus–Amygdala–Prefrontal Cortex Network

2021

Displaying a stress response to threatening stimuli is essential for survival. These reactions must be adjusted to be adaptive. Otherwise, even mental illnesses may develop. Describing the physiological stress response may contribute to distinguishing the abnormal responses that accompany the pathology, which may help to improve the development of both diagnoses and treatments. Recent advances have elucidated many of the processes and structures involved in stress response management; however, there is still much to unravel regarding this phenomenon. The main aim of the present research is to characterize the response of three brain areas deeply involved in the stress response (i.e., to an …

Biowaiver Monographs for Immediate Release Solid Oral Dosage Forms: Levetiracetam.

2015

Literature and experimental data relevant for the decision to allow a waiver of in vivo bioequivalence (BE) testing for the approval of immediate release (IR) solid oral dosage forms containing levetiracetam are reviewed. Data on solubility and permeability suggest that levetiracetam belongs to class I of the biopharmaceutical classification system (BCS). Levetiracetam's therapeutic use, its wide therapeutic index, and its favorable pharmacokinetic properties make levetiracetam a valid candidate for the BCS-based biowaiver approach. Further, no BE studies with levetiracetam IR formulations in which the test formulation failed to show BE with the comparator have been reported in the open lit…
