Clinical and immunohistochemical evaluation of the vulvar Langerhans cell histiocytosis.

:  We present the case of a woman with diabetes insipidus with subsequent genital and multiorgan Langerhans cell histiocytosis (LCH). A monolateral and slightly infiltrated erythematous plaque of the vulva was observed. Hematoxylin and eosin and immunophenotypic studies were performed. The primary antibodies used were monoclonal antibody to S100, CD1a, CD34, HLA-DR, PCNA, CD45Ro, CD40, and langerin. The histology of the infiltrates revealed a granulomatous reaction pattern, with extensive aggregates of histiocyte proliferation. Azathioprine combined with prednisolone or monotherapy with prednisolone in active Crohn's disease

Abstract Background: The role of azathioprine (AZA) in the treatment of active Crohn's disease (CD) is still controversial. This study examined whether AZA combined with standard prednisolone therapy improved the therapeutic outcome compared with monotherapy with prednisolone. Methods: Forty-two patients with a Crohn's Disease Activity Index (CDAI) of > 150 were randomized into two groups. Both received 60 mg of prednisolone daily in a tapering regimen to a maintenance dose of 10 mg. In addition, group 1 received 2.5 mg AZA/kg body wt and group 2 received a placebo over the whole study period of 4 months. The pathophysiology of the complex regional pain syndrome involves enhanced neurogenic inflammation mediated by neuropeptides. Neutral endopeptidase (neprilysin, NEP) is a key enzyme in neuropeptide catabolism. Our previous work revealed that NEP knock out (ko) mice develop more severe hypersensitivity to thermal and mechanical stimuli after chronic constriction injury (CCI) of the sciatic nerve than wild-type (wt) mice. Bis(toluene)iron 9 reacts with Lappert's stannylene [Sn[CH(SiMe3)2]2] (4) to form the paramagnetic bis-stannylene complex [[(eta6-toluene)Fe-Sn-[CH(SiMe3)2]2]2] (10). Compound 10 reacts with H2O to form the hydroxo hydrido complex [(eta6-C7H8)(mu-OH)(H)-Fe-[Sn[CH(SiMe3)2]2]2] (12) in high yield; its solid-state structure has been elucidated by X-ray and neutron diffraction analysis. In agreement with the 1H NMR results, 12 contains a hydridic ligand whose exact coordination geometry could be determined by neutron diffraction. Stepping on invisible land: on the importance of communicating the value of soils.

Soils play fundamental roles in the functioning of the Earth's ecosystems. Despite numerous initiatives to protect soils, it continues to be generally perceived as dirt or, at best, the surface we walk on. To better understand soil perception by the public, we conducted a survey with 99 participants from Poland and Brazil. We applied opportunity sampling and conducted semi-structured interviews with 40 respondents from Poland and 30 from Brazil, and 29 unstructured interviews in Brazil.
