Background: The aim of this study was to assess the expression of cytokines/chemokines in tears from patients with non-advanced primary open-angle glaucoma and patients with non-severe dry eye disease versus healthy controls. Effects of multipurpose contact lens solutions on the protein composition of the tear film

Abstract Objectives: To analyze the influence of multipurpose contact lens cleaning solutions on tear proteins. Changes in tear film protein profiles of contact lens wearers who used several marketed brands of multipurpose contact lens care solutions, were assessed by ProteinChip analysis. Modulatory role of magnesium on the contractile response of rat aorta to several agonists in normal and calcium-free medium.

Abstract Acute withdrawal of external Mg2+ increased basal tone of rat isolated aorta incubated in the presence of Ca2+. Above normal levels of Mg2+ (1–4 Mm) inhibited basal tone while much higher levels of the divalent cation (64–256 Mm) evoked contractile responses regardless of the presence of Ca2+. Contractile responses to noradrenaline (1μm) and KCl (80 Mm) were inhibited by addition of cumulative concentrations of Mg2+. Acetylcholine-induced contractions in the presence of physiological concentrations of Mg2+ (1 Mm) decreased gradually to the basal tone, but a sustained contraction was observed in the absence of this ion. Optical quality after instillation of eyedrops in dry-eye syndrome

Comparison of two artificial tear formulations for dry eye through high‐resolution optical coherence tomography

Purpose:  The aim was to determine the efficacy of two artificial eye-drop formulations by analysing the lower tear film meniscus volume through a commercial high-resolution spectral-domain optical coherence tomographer. Gastric acid secretory responses induced by peptone are mediated by capsaicin-sensitive sensory afferent neurons

The involvement of capsaicin-sensitive afferent neurons in modulating acid-secretory responses to peptone, a product of protein digestion, has been investigated in the continuously perfused stomach of the urethan-anesthetized rat. Systemic neonatal pretreatment with capsaicin, which destroys primary afferent neurons, does not modify basal levels of acid secretion. Acid responses to intragastric perfusion with isotonic (0.5, 1, and 2.4%) or hypertonic (10 and 20%) solutions of peptone were reduced in capsaicin-treated rats. What is the preferred concentration of ethanolamine oleate for sclerotherapy of oral vascular anomalies?

Background This study compared three different concentrations of EO (1.25%, 2.5% and 5%) for the treatment of oral vascular anomalies (OVAs). Material and Methods This was a retrospective comparative analysis of patients with OVAs treated with EO. Anomalies smaller than 20 mm were included. Modelling of Pe C alloys solidification using the artificial heat source method

Abstract In the paper the numerical solutions concerning the cast iron and also the carbon steel solidification are presented. In order to take into account the non-linearities appearing in differential equations describing the boundary-initial problem considered — a certain algorithm called the artificial heat source method has been used. The examples illustrating the possibilities of proposed method applications have been solved by means of the boundary element method, but the others numerical methods can be also utilized.
