Reversibility and Diffusion in Mandelythiamin Decarboxylation. Searching Dynamical Effects in Decarboxylation Reactions

Decarboxylation of mandelylthiamin in aqueous solution is analyzed by means of quantum mechanics/molecular mechanics simulations including solvent effects. The free energy profile for the decarboxylation reaction was traced, assuming equilibrium solvation, while reaction trajectories allowed us to incorporate nonequilibrium effects due to the solvent degrees of freedom as well as to evaluate the rate of the diffusion process in competition with the backward reaction. Three new tetranuclear iron(III) and zinc(II) complexes, [Fe4(cpdp)2(phth)2(OH)2]·8H2O (1), [Fe4(cpdp)2(terephth)2(OH)2] (2), and [Zn4(Hcpdp)2(suc)]Br2·12H2O (3), have been synthesized as models for the active site of phosphoester hydrolases by utilizing a polydentate ligand, N, N'-bis[2-carboxybenzomethyl]- N, N'-bis[2-pyridylmethyl]-1,3-diaminopropan-2-ol (H3cpdp) in combination with exogeneous phthalate (phth), terephthalate (terephth), and succinate (suc). Solution Structure of the R3H Domain from Human Sμbp-2

The R3H domain is a conserved sequence motif, identified in over 100 proteins, that is thought to be involved in polynucleotide-binding, including DNA, RNA and single-stranded DNA. In this work the 3D structure of the R3H domain from human Smubp-2 was determined by NMR spectroscopy. It is the first 3D structure determination of an R3H domain. The fold presents a small motif, consisting of a three-stranded antiparallel beta-sheet and two alpha-helices, which is related to the structures of the YhhP protein and the C-terminal domain of the translational initiation factor IF3. Modern track-etching methods allow the preparation of membranes containing a single charged conical nanopore that shows high ionic permselectivity due to the electrical interactions of the surface pore charges with the mobile ions in the aqueous solution. The nanopore has potential applications in electrically assisted single-particle detection, analysis, and separation of biomolecules. Density Functional Theory (DFT) calculations have been performed on the TTC→TTT isomerization reaction of the open forms of the 1',3'-dihydro-8-bromo-6-nitro- 1',3',3'-trimethylspiro[2H-1-benzopyran-2,2'-(2H)indole (8-Br-6-nitro-BIPS) system. The calculations were carried out in vacuo and in methylene chloride solution at different temperatures. Results are compared with the available experimental values of free energy difference and activation energy in solution.

The dinuclear Cu2+ and Zn2+ as well as the mixed Cu2+-Zn2+ complexes of a 5,5''-pentaazaterpyridinophane ligand (L) are able to incorporate imidazolate (Im-) as a bridging ligand. The crystal structure of [Cu(2)L(Im)(Br)(H2O)](CF(3)SO(3))(2).3H2O (1) shows one copper coordinated by the three pyridine nitrogens of the terpyridine unit, one nitrogen of the imidazolate bridge (Im-) and one bromide anion occupying the axial position of a distorted square pyramid. By using an improved synthetic method reported earlier, the cyclic stannoxanes obtained from RN-diethanolamine (R = Me, Bu) and dibutyltin oxide have been reacted with 1H-pyrazole-3,5-dicarbonyl dichloride to afford 26-membered diaza tetraester crowns (1, R = Me; 3, R = Bu) and 39-membered triaza hexaester crowns (2, R = Me; 4, R = Bu). The new structures were identified from their analytical and spectroscopic (1H and 13C NMR, FAB-MS, and/or ESI-MS) data. Polymeric nanopores with fixed charges show ionic selectivity when immersed in aqueous electrolyte solutions. The understanding of the electrical interaction between these charges and the mobile ions confined in the inside nanopore solution is the key issue in the design of potential applications. The authors have theoretically described the effects that spatially inhomogeneous fixed charge distributions exert on the ionic transport and selectivity properties of the nanopore.
