Somatic Symptoms among Children and Adolescents in Poland: A Confirmatory Factor Analytic Study of the Children Somatization Inventory.

2013

The aim of the present study was to examine the factor structure and psychometric properties of the short version of the Children’s Somatization Inventory (CSI-24) in Poland. The CSI-24 is a self-report questionnaire designed to assess somatic symptoms in children and adolescents. A total of 733 children and adolescents, aged 12 to 17 years, participated in this research. The participants for this study were recruited from urban and suburban schools of Opole province in South Western Poland. In addition to the CSI-24, all participants completed the Spence Children’s Anxiety Scale (SCAS) and the Strength and Difficulties Questionnaire (SDQ). The bifactor model that included the three domain-…

Stimulation of root and somatic embryo production in Euconymus europaeus L. by an inhibitor of polyamine biosynthesis

1995

In vitro formation of roots and somatic embryos is obtained from cotyledon explants of a Spindle tree (Euonymus europaeus L.) cultured on two different media: a medium inducing callus formation and the production of roots, and a medium inducing callus formation, root and somatic embryo production. We studied the effects of α-difluoromethylornithine (DFMO), a specific, irreversible inhibitor of ornithine decarboxylase (ODC) on root and somatic embryo production, growth and titers of putrescine in Euonymus explants and explant-derived calli. Early changes in putrescine levels were detected in both cultures before the visible emergence of roots or somatic embryos. DFMO rapidly inhibited putres…

Correlating stress and somatic embryogenesis for NBT: myth or reality?

2018

Global warming and growing demography have increased demand for agronomic resources, leading to increasing lack of land suitable for agriculture and provoking several abiotic stresses which, added to biotic ones, result in physiological and metabolic disorders that impact on crop yield when most needed. Reducing this impact is a major scientific and agronomic challenge and biotechnology would be an efficient alternative. However, to reduce risks of somaclonal variation among regenerants it is better to produce them by somatic embryogenesis directly from explants or gametes, or indirectly from callus or cell suspensions. Thus, globular embryos regenerate and develop through to the heart, tor…

Une approche psychothérapeutique des phénomènes psychosomatiques et de la corporéité à l'Île de La Réunion

2016

A psychotherapeutic approach of psychosomatic phenomena and embodiment in Reunion Island Abstract The cultural foundations, the beliefs and rites of a society influence the way an individual embodies psychological perceptions and psychical experiences of the body. Language enable the investigation of cultural linguistic specificities, deciphering and working-through of related commonly held beliefs or personal meanings of these mental contents. This article first exposes the common beliefs about the human body in a reunionnese patient's original religion. It examines then the role of the patient's cultural background in psychosomatic 2 manifestations in Reunion Island. The work on this case…

Somatic embryogenesis from hypocotyl callus cultures of Digitalis obscura L.

1986

Hypocotyl-derived calli obtained in agar solidified medium with several growth regulator combinations gave rise to proembryonal masses and globular embryos when transferred to liquid media with lower growth regulator and higher NH4HO3 levels. By transferring cultures from liquid media to different solidified media, new embryo formation took place, but further development of these embryos or those previously induced depended on the characteristics of these media. Normal development was only achieved on 8 g/l agar solidified medium without growth regulators. Typical cotyledonary embryos developed into whole plants when transferred to this same medium.

Monitoring the effects of therapeutic interventions in depression through self-assessments

2021

The treatment of major psychiatric disorders is an arduous and thorny path for the patients concerned, characterized by polypharmacy, massive adverse side effects, modest prospects of success, and constantly declining response rates. The more important is the early detection of psychiatric disorders prior to the development of clinically relevant symptoms, so that people can benefit from early interventions. A well-proven approach to monitoring mental health relies on voice analysis. This method has been successfully used with psychiatric patients to ‘objectively’ document the progress of improvement or the onset of relapse. The studies with psychiatric patients over 2-4 weeks demonstrated …

Citrus somatic hybrid leaf essential oil

2000

The essential oil from the leaves of a Citrus interspecific somatic hybrid obtained by symmetric protoplast fusion between ‘Milam’ lemon [purported sexual hybrid of C. Jambhiri Lush (×) C. sinensis] and ‘Femminello’ lemon (C. limon L. Burm f.) has been characterized by steam distillation GC–MS analysis and its composition compared with that of the corresponding oils obtained from the parent plants. The amount (%) of the different classes of substances present in the oils show, in the new hybrid, an overall lowering of the hydrocarbon fraction and an increase of the oxygenated components. The somatic hybrid shows a close similarity in the amounts of terpenes, sesquiterpenes and alcohols with…

Micropropagation of juvenile and adultDigitalis obscura and cardenolide content of clonally propagated plants

1991

Cultures ofDigitalis obscura L. were established from axillary buds of mature plants or leaves of seedlings obtained under aseptic conditions. Explants were cultured on Murashige and Skoog medium containing benzyladenine and/or naphthaleneacetic acid. Shoot proliferation from axillary buds was not affected by seasonal fluctuations in the stock plants and increased relative to the cytokinin concentration, but auxin reduced the multiplication rate. Differentiation of somatic embryos and adventitious buds from cultured leaves required naphthaleneacetic acid alone or combined with benzyladenine, respectively. Cardenolide pattern and content of the regenerated plants were determined by high perf…

Secondary somatic embryogenesis and plant regeneration in myrtle (Myrtus communis L.).

1998

Immature seeds, as well as hypocotyls and cotyledons excised from seedlings of Myrtus communis L., were cultured on media containing half-strength Murashige and Skoog macronutrients (MS/2) with combinations of auxins and cytokinins, in order to study their morphogenetic competence. Somatic embryogenesis was obtained from cotyledons, hypocotyls and 2-month-old immature seeds with 0.1 mg/l 2,4-dichlorophenoxyacetic acid (2,4-D). The percentage of explants showing this primary somatic embryogenesis ranged from 4% for hypocotyls to 12% for 2-month-old immature seeds. In the latter, somatic embryogenesis was also obtained in media containing 2,4-D plus a cytokinin, and with only a cytokinin. Som…
