Experimental studies on the suitability of human mesothelial cells for seeding vascular prostheses: shear stress resistance in vitro

This investigation forms part of a study on the suitability of human omentum mesothelial cells (HOMES) as an alternative to endothelial cells (EC) for seeding vascular grafts. Isolated HOMES were grown in primary culture and characterized by their morphology (light microscopy and scanning electron microscopy (SEM)), as well as by fluorescence-activated cell sorting (FACS) and immunocytochemistry. The latter two methods showed cells which were positive for smooth muscle-type actin and cytokeratin, but negative for factor VIII-related antigen. In today’s advanced work environment, workers are still exposed to ergonomic risks in the work environment and employees are exposed physically hard work that includes moving loads and frequent repetitive movements at fast pace. For the ergonomic risk analysis and workload assessment, three work operations with the high physical activity were selected: the welder’s workplace, the ironing board sorting line and the ironing board’s packing station. A Ge(Li)Ge(Li) sum-peak (summing coincidence) spectrometer

Abstract The sum-peak spectrometer (also called the integral-bias summing coincidence spectrometer) arrangement earlier developed with NaI(Tl) detectors is extended to Ge(Li) detectors. The integral-bias method in sorting sums of coincident pulse amplitudes is replaced by a set of pulse-height selection windows, which simply and more effectively aid in the analysis of sum-peak complexities associated with the symmetric linear summing procedure employed. The article presents the results of an analysis of the surface layer of bottom sediments in the naval harbour in Hel. During field work conducted in June 2013, 54 sediment samples were collected. The aim of the study was to examine magnetic susceptibility of harbour sediment as a parameter determining the degree of anthropopressure. As part of laboratory tests, grain size analysis was performed in order to determine organic matter content and magnetic susceptibility of the sediment. Features of TAP-independent MHC class I ligands revealed by quantitative mass spectrometry.

TAP is responsible for transferring cytosolic peptides into the ER, where they can be loaded onto MHC molecules. Deletion of TAP results in a drastic reduction of MHC class I surface expression and alters the presented peptide pattern. This key molecule in antigen processing is tackled by several viruses and lost in some tumors, rendering the altered cells less vulnerable to T cell-based immune surveillance. Using the TAP-deficient cell line LCL721.174 and its TAP-expressing progenitor cell line LCL721.45, we identified and quantified more than 160 HLA ligands, 50 of which were presented TAP-independently. Complex formation between the NS3 serine-type proteinase of the hepatitis C virus and NS4A and its importance for polyprotein maturation

Processing of the hepatitis C virus polyprotein is mediated by host cell signalases and at least two virally encoded proteinases. Of these, the serine-type proteinase encompassing the amino-terminal one-third of NS3 is responsible for cleavage at the four sites carboxy terminal of NS3.
