SUSTAINABLE MANAGEMENT PERMANENT GRASSLANDS
2014
The Natural complete ecosystem, the original form of development of human society has changed due to the adoption of diversified development options, mainly oriented towards production systems designed to erode the harmony between man and nature. As a consequence of these changes, we are witnessing today an increase of the probability of manifestation of nuisance factors, namely harmful and the vulnerability of human society to their action. The global reaction to this situation, though delayed, is notable and oriented towards the adoption of specific actions intended to produce change towards a environmentally friendly economy. This change, called sustainable development, is a topical issu…

Nitrogen sources in the must are important for yeast metabolism, growth, and performance, and wine volatile compounds profile. Yeast assimilable nitrogen (YAN) deficiencies in grape must are one of the main causes of stuck and sluggish fermentation. The nitrogen requirement of Saccharomyces cerevisiae metabolism has been described in detail. However, the YAN preferences of non-Saccharomyces yeasts remain unknown despite their increasingly widespread use in winemaking. Furthermore, the impact of nitrogen consumption by non-Saccharomyces yeasts on YAN availability, alcoholic performance and volatile compounds production by S. cerevisiae in sequential fermentation has been little studied. With…
Nutrition-Related Diseases in the Medicines Reimbursement System of Latvia
2013
Latvijā ambulatorajai ārstēšanai paredzēto zāļu un medicīnisko ierīču iegādes izdevumu kompensācijas sistēma darbojas stingri ierobežotu valsts budžeta līdzekļu apstākļos, līdz ar to aktuāls kļūst jautājums par papildus iespēju izvērtēšanu līdzekļu izlietojuma optimizācijai, ņemot vērā arī preventīvo pasākumu nozīmīgumu. Pētījuma mērķis ir identificēt uztura atkarīgās slimības zāļu iegādes izdevumu kompensācijas sistēmā un novērtēt iespējas noteikt papildinošo uztura programmu potenciālo efektivitāti. Mērķa sasniegšanai izmantotas teorētiskās izpētes metodes (normatīvo dokumentu un speciālās literatūras analīze) un empīriskās izpētes metodes (statistikas datu vākšana, apkopošana un analīze)…
Innovation by co-evolution in natural resource industries: The Norwegian experience
2011
Author's version of an article published in the journal: Geoforum. Also avaliable from the publisher at: http://dx.doi.org/10.1016/j.geoforum.2011.01.008 Some resource-based economies become wealthy while others stay poor and Norway belongs to the first category. This paper argues that part of the answer to why Norway has managed to benefit from its rich natural resources is found in the formation of a well-functioning national innovation system. The paper integrates the innovation system approach with a historical approach through the concept of co-evolution. The empirical study investigates how innovation systems evolve in natural resource industries through analysing the co-evolution bet…
CHALLENGES TO MADE VALUES-BASED COMPETENCE MODEL FOR AMBULANCE PERSONNEL
2019
The purpose of this paper is to clarify and analyse the understanding of the values for Ambulance personnel, to compare and integrate it with the system of competencies used in the performance assessment and evaluation of professional competence. The results of State Emergency Medical Service ambulance personnel’s survey in the 2018 are analysed in the research. The results obtained Ambulance personnel’s different understanding of the importance of organization's values and its impact in management, staff attitude and work performance. The results of the survey have showed that Ambulance personnel has contradictive understanding of system of values. Their personal values are respect, compas…
Respirometric Index and Biogas Potential of Different Foods and Agricultural Discarded Biomass
2016
The biological stability of biomass is an important parameter for treatment plant design, process control or compost use. Measuring the biological reactivity of waste with the help of indicators such as respirometric indexes (RI) becomes an important tool to prevent the significant environmental impact of biodegradable wastes in accordance with European legislation. The aim of this paper is to show the importance of the RI technique as a tool to establish further uses of biomass such as fertilizer or biogas. The respirometric process length for different types of biomass (grape marc, apple pomace and olive pomace) was quantified. Higher moisture content seemed to favor the biological activi…

Photodegradation of lincomycin in aqueous solution
2006
Aqueous solutions of lincomycin were irradiated with UV light in homogeneous and heterogeneous systems. Lincomycin disappeared in both systems but the presence ofTiO2noticeably accelerated the degradation of the antibiotic in comparison with direct photolysis. The rate of decomposition was dependent on the concentration of lincomycin and followed a pseudo-first-order kinetics. Photolysis involved only the oxidation of lincomycin without mineralization. Differently, the treatment withTiO2and UV light resulted in a complete mineralization of the antibiotic. The degradation pathways involved S- and N-demethylation and propyldealkylation. The mineralization of the molecule led to the formation …
Maritime-oriented foragers during the Late Pleistocene on the eastern costa del sol (Southeast Iberia): Cueva Victoria (Málaga, Spain).
2022
The Mediterranean coast of Spain is marked by several clusters of Palaeolithic sites: to the south of the Pyrenees, in the area around the Ebro River, in the central part, and on the south coast, one of the southernmost regions in Europe. The number of sites is small compared with northern Iberia, but like that region, the Palaeolithic occupations are accompanied by several rock art ensembles. The archaeological material (both biotic and abiotic resources) and radiocarbon dates presented here were obtained during archaeological fieldwork of professor J. Fortea in the Late Pleistocene deposits in Cueva Victoria, located near the modern coastline and about 150 km north of the Strait of Gibral…
