XMM-Newton survey of two Upper Scorpius regions
2007
We studied X-ray emission from young stars by analyzing the deep XMM-Newton observations of two regions of the Upper Scorpius association with an age of 5Myr. Based on near infrared and optical photometry we identified 22 Upper Scorpius photometric members among the 224 detected X-ray sources. We derived coronal properties of Upper Scorpius stars by performing X-ray spectral and timing analyses. The study of four strong and isolated stellar flares allowed us to derive the length of the flaring loops. Old MS stars in young moving groups
2009
The associations and moving groups of young stars are excellent laboratories to investigate the stellar formation in the solar neighborhood. Past results confirmed that a non-negligible fraction of old main-sequence stars is present in the lists of members of the young stellar kinematic groups. A detailed study on the properties of these samples is needed to separate the young stars from old main-sequence stars with similar space motion, in order to identify the origin of these structures. Our intention is to characterize the sample of stars members of the young moving groups and determine their age distribution to quantify the contamination by old main-sequence stars, in particular, in the…
Star formation region NGC 6530
2005
We present astrometry and BVI photometry, down to V~22, of the very young open cluster NGC 6530, obtained from observations taken with the Wide Field Imager camera at the MPG/ESO 2.2m Telescope. We have positionally matched our optical catalog with the list of X-ray sources found in a Chandra-ACIS observation, finding a total of 828 common stars, 90% of which are pre-main sequence stars in NGC 6530. Radio observations of the HDFS region. IV.
2011
The Australia Telescope Hubble Deep Field-South (ATHDF-S) survey of the Hubble Deep Field-South (HDF-S) reaches sensitivities of ~10uJy at 1.4, 2.5, 5.2, and 8.7GHz, making the ATHDF-S one of the deepest surveys ever performed with the Australia Telescope Compact Array (ATCA). Here, we present the optical identifications of the ATHDF-S radio sources using data from the literature. We find that ~66% of the radio sources have optical counterparts to I=23.5mag. Deep Hubble Space Telescope (HST) imaging of the area identifies a further 12% of radio sources. We present new spectroscopic observations for 98 of the radio sources and supplement these spectroscopic redshifts with photometric ones ca…
Rosat North Ecliptic survey stellar population
2007
X-ray surveys are a very efficient mean of detecting young stars and therefore allow us to study the young stellar population in the solar neighborhood and the local star formation history in the last billion of years. We want to study the young stellar population in the solar neighborhood, to constrain its spatial density and scale height as well as the recent local star formation history. We analyze the stellar content of the ROSAT North Ecliptic Pole survey, and compare the observations with the predictions derived from stellar galactic model. Since the ROSAT NEP survey is sensitive at intermediate fluxes is able to sample both the youngest stars and the intermediate age stars (younger t…
XMM-Newton Extended Survey of Taurus
2007
The XMM-Newton Extended Survey of the Taurus Molecular Cloud (XEST) surveys the most populated ~5 square degrees of the Taurus Molecular Cloud, using the XMM-Newton X-ray observatory to study the thermal structure, variability, and long-term evolution of hot plasma, to investigate the magnetic dynamo, and to search for new potential members of the association. We present overall correlations with fundamental stellar parameters that were derived from the previous literature. The present overview paper introduces the project and provides the basic results from the X-ray analysis of all sources detected in the XEST survey. Comprehensive tables summarize the stellar properties of all targets su…
X-ray emission in cool main sequence stars
2003
The maximum amplitude A_max_ of spot-induced brightness variations from long-term V-band photometry and the ratio L_X_/L_bol_ between X-ray and bolometric luminosities are suitable indicators of the level of magnetic activity in the photosphere and in the corona of late-type stars, respectively. By using these activity indicators we investigate the dependence of coronal X-ray emission on the level of photospheric starspot activity in a homogeneous sample of low mass main-sequence field and cluster stars of different ages (IC 2602, IC 4665, IC 2391, {alpha} Per, Pleiades and Hyades). Observation of TeV gamma rays from the Cygnus region with the ARGO-YBJ experiment
2012
We report the observation of TeV gamma-rays from the Cygnus region using the ARGO-YBJ data collected from 2007 November to 2011 August. Several TeV sources are located in this region including the two bright extended MGRO J2019+37 and MGRO J2031+41. According to the Milagro data set, at 20 TeV MGRO J2019+37 is the most significant source apart from the Crab Nebula. No signal from MGRO J2019+37 is detected by the ARGO-YBJ experiment, and the derived flux upper limits at 90% confidence level for all the events above 600 GeV with medium energy of 3 TeV are lower than the Milagro flux, implying that the source might be variable and hard to be identified as a pulsar wind nebula. The only statist…
POSSIBILITIES OF USING DIALECT ATLASES IN THE ACQUISITION OF LATVIAN LANGUAGE
2020
The creation of a modern lesson increasingly uses open data, a variety of digital resources, electronic teaching tools etc. In addition to books, electronic teaching tools, information resources, etc., come into the training process as a way to portray linguistic information and the writers' creative thought. One of the resources that can be successfully exploited in promoting the growth of a fully developed and skilled pupil, as well as in-depth learning of the Latvian language, is dialect atlases. The aim of the research was to understand the functionality and effectiveness of the dialect atlases in lear ning lexicology and dialectology. The study combined the descriptive method and conte…
Evaluation and comparison of satellite precipitation estimates with reference to a local area in the Mediterranean Sea
2014
Precipitation measurement is a key activity for the analysis of storm processes as well as every hydrological process. Satellite retrieval systems, rain-gauge network and radar systems are complement to each other in terms of their coverage and capability of monitoring precipitation. Satellite rainfall estimates systems produce data with global coverage that can provide information in areas for which data from other sources are unavailable. Without referring to ground measurement, satellite-based estimates can be bias. Although some gauged adjusted satellite precipitation products are developed, an effective way of integrating multi-sources of precipitation information is still a challenge.…
