Does Culture Matter? : Measuring Cross-Country Perceptions of CSR Communication Campaigns about COVID-19
2022
The COVID-19 pandemic has brought several challenges to businesses and societies. In response, many corporations have supported local communities and authorities in the management of the pandemic. Although these initiatives, which can be considered forms of corporate social responsibility (CSR), were highly coupled with explicit CSR communication campaigns, little is known about whether these campaigns were effective. Previous research indicates that culture can shape people’s perceptions of CSR initiatives and communications, suggesting that businesses pay attention to careful consideration of cultural norms for effective CSR communication. However, the COVID-19 pandemic as a new CSR setti…
The Environmental Issue in Sicily
2014
In Italy, despite the number of protected natural areas and the abundance of scientific research upon the landscape, the level of control of human pressure on the environmental system is still seriously inadequate. Among the main factors is the disconnection between urban/regional and sectorial planning, in the frame of the detachment of the nature conservation policies from the landscape and territorial policies, which is the focus of the present research. The regional situation is rendered even more serious by the lack of an up-to-date planning law (the Sicilian planning law was passed in 1978), the poor diffusion of territorial and vast area planning (the Regional Master Plan has never b…

Lymnaea schirazensis, an Overlooked Snail Distorting Fascioliasis Data: Genotype, Phenotype, Ecology, Worldwide Spread, Susceptibility, Applicability
2011
BackgroundLymnaeid snails transmit medical and veterinary important trematodiases, mainly fascioliasis. Vector specificity of fasciolid parasites defines disease distribution and characteristics. Different lymnaeid species appear linked to different transmission and epidemiological patterns. Pronounced susceptibility differences to absolute resistance have been described among lymnaeid populations. When assessing disease characteristics in different endemic areas, unexpected results were obtained in studies on lymnaeid susceptibility to Fasciola. We undertook studies to understand this disease transmission heterogeneity.Methodology/principal findingsA ten-year study in Iran, Egypt, Spain, t…
Residents’ Perception of the Impact of Sports Tourism on Sustainable Social Development
2022
The analysis of the social perception of citizens and evaluations of the impact of sport tourism and their support for tourism development can be of great use in the formulation of policies aimed at social cohesion and local development. These actions favor social participation and inclusion, equal opportunities, and more positive attitudes towards sports tourism and inclusive sport. This study aims to analyze the perception and predisposition towards the support of citizens on the impact of sport tourism from a multidimensional perspective. Specifically, this study evaluates the social perception on four measures: social impact, cultural impact, environmental impact, and local policies. Th…
Avances de investigación en educación matemática
2020
Feasibility Studies for Water Reuse Projects: Economic Valuation of Environmental Benefits
2010
Water reuse is emerging as a promising alternative because it enables water resources to be increased and lowers pollution levels by reducing wastewater. In recent decades, significant technological progress has been made in the field of wastewater regeneration; and project feasibility is now mostly subject to just economic assessment. However, the economic aspect is the least addressed aspect of research into water reuse. This is because private costs are generally considered while the external effects are relegated to a series of statements about the advantages of water reuse. Methodologies used to analyze the economic feasibility of these projects usually focus on internal costs. As a re…

Allocation of scarce critical care resources during public health emergencies: which ethical principles support decision making.
2022
Aim: To investigate whether and how ten ethical principles are mentioned within documents on critical care resources allocation during public health emergencies. Materials and Methods: We conducted a search of documents con-cerning critical resources allocation during public emergencies publicly available from Google and two specific international websites, up to November 2020. Each document was analyzed by two independent reviewers to assess whether a reference to any of the 10 key ethical principles indicated by the Northern Italy Ethical Committee could be found in the documents. Cohen's K statistic was used. Results: We obtained 34 documents, of which 19 were allocation frameworks, 15 c…
