The world faces difficulties in terms of eye care, including treatment, quality of prevention, vision rehabilitation services, and scarcity of trained eye care experts. Early detection and diagnosis of ocular pathologies would enable forestall of visual impairment. One challenge that limits the adoption of computer-aided diagnosis tool by ophthalmologists is the number of sight-threatening rare pathologies, such as central retinal artery occlusion or anterior ischemic optic neuropathy, and others are usually ignored. Internet Cafés in Asia and Africa – Venues for Education and Learning?

ABSTRACT
 This paper examines the use of Internet cafés in two developing countries; Indonesia and Tanzania. The research is based on surveys of about 500 respondents in the two countries, supported by in-depth interviews. The findings show that Internet cafés are used for competence development today, and that they have the potential to be suitable arenas for human resource development for a wide range of users. For the users, access speed and price are important obstacles to increased use. More research is needed to see how Internet cafés can attract new user-groups to help reduce the digital divide within a developing country.

The Ph.D.-candidate as an information literate resource

One of Agder University Librarys goals is to support teaching and research at the University of Agder (UoA). To do so, the library should be involved in research projects and offer the right products at the right time. The spring of 2012 a survey was conducted among researchers (academic staff and Ph.D.-students) at the faculty of humanities and education at UoA as well as the library staff. Certain advantages of Scopus compare with Web of Science in a bibliometric analysis related to smoking

El objetivo de este trabajo es comparar entre Web of Science (WoS) y Scopus los indicadores bibliométricos básicos del área de tabaquismo de autores españoles en el período 2000-2009. Métodos: La búsqueda se realizó en el SCI-Expanded y Scopus (“smok*” OR “tobac*”). Resultados: La media total anual del nº de documentos fue de 41 ± 12 para WoS vs 60 ± 16 en Scopus (p = 0,007). Aumento progresivo del índice de colaboración. La media anual del índice de colaboración fue de 9,41 ± 2,73 en WoS vs 7,12 ± 1,52 en Scopus (p = 0,029). Experiencias de aprendizaje del Derecho del Trabajo a través del cine

[ES] Este artículo analiza la experiencia realizada durante tres años con objeto de complementar la enseñanza del Derecho del trabajo con el uso del cine como material bibiográfico y sus resultados. En la experiencia se propuso una película por cada tema del programa académico de la asignatura de Derecho del trabajo (I) y también de la asignatura Políticas sociolaborales, ocupación e igualdad. Los resultados han sido positivos siendo el material cinemátográfico una ayuda significativa a la comprensión de conceptos complejos y su retención en el tiempo.

Tracing Curiosity with a Value Perspective

Several have challenged the idea that educating is a neutral endeavour. Following this line of thought, this article intends to examine a common concept often taken for granted: curiosity. The aim of the article is to show how curiosity is constructed as a value-loaded notion by tracing its understandings in an early-childhood-education-and-care (ECEC) context from a value perspective.
