In-Medium Properties of theD13(1520) Nucleon Resonance
2001
The in-medium properties of the ${\mathrm{D}}_{13}(1520)$ nucleon resonance were studied via photoproduction of ${\ensuremath{\pi}}^{0}$ mesons from nuclei (C, Ca, Nb, Pb) with the TAPS detector at the Mainz Microton accelerator. The inclusive (single and multiple pion production) data disagree with model predictions which explain the disappearance of the second resonance bump in total photoabsorption via a medium modification of the ${\mathrm{D}}_{13}\ensuremath{\rightarrow}\mathrm{N}\ensuremath{\rho}$ decay. The exclusive single ${\ensuremath{\pi}}^{0}$ production data show no broadening of the resonance structure beyond Fermi smearing. Both results together cast doubt on attempts to expl…
The Topological Phase Transitions Related to Fermion Condensate
2014
In this chapter, we consider so-called topological phase transitions, taking place in normal Fermi liquid. In other words, here we are dealing with different instabilities of normal Fermi liquids relative to several kinds of perturbations of initial quasiparticle spectrum \(\varepsilon (p)\) and occupation numbers \(n(p)\) associated with the emergence of a multi-connected Fermi surface. Depending on the parameters and analytical properties of the Landau interaction, such instabilities lead to several possible types of restructuring of initial Landau Fermi liquid ground state. This restructuring generates topologically distinct phases. One of them is the FC discussed above, another one belo…
Amplification of nonlinear currents generation at harmonics frequencies of submillimeter radiation
2006
The conditions are found when rapid heating of the electrons of a degenerate semiconductor in the presence of two electric fields, one constant and the other variable, is accompanied by the formation of a distribution function significantly departing from the Fermi one. It is also shown that the newly found modification of the electron distribution yields a relative amplification of nonlinear currents generation.
Non-cooperative Equilibria of Fermi Systems With Long Range Interactions
2019
We define a Banach space $\mathcal{M}_{1}$ of models for fermions or quantum spins in the lattice with long range interactions and explicit the structure of (generalized) equilibrium states for any $\mathfrak{m}\in \mathcal{M}_{1}$. In particular, we give a first answer to an old open problem in mathematical physics - first addressed by Ginibre in 1968 within a different context - about the validity of the so-called Bogoliubov approximation on the level of states. Depending on the model $\mathfrak{m}\in \mathcal{M}_{1}$, our method provides a systematic way to study all its correlation functions and can thus be used to analyze the physics of long range interactions. Furthermore, we show tha…
HST/WFC3 Confirmation of the Inside-out Growth of Massive Galaxies at 0 < z < 2 and Identification of Their Star-forming Progenitors at z ~ 3
2013
We study the structural evolution of massive galaxies by linking progenitors and descendants at a constant cumulative number density of n_c=1.4x10^{-4} Mpc^{-3} to z~3. Structural parameters were measured by fitting Sersic profiles to high resolution CANDELS HST WFC3 J_{125} and H_{160} imaging in the UKIDSS-UDS at 1<z<3 and ACS I_{814} imaging in COSMOS at 0.25<z<1. At a given redshift, we selected the HST band that most closely samples a common rest-frame wavelength so as to minimize systematics from color gradients in galaxies. At fixed n_c, galaxies grow in stellar mass by a factor of ~3 from z~3 to z~0. The size evolution is complex: galaxies appear roughly constant in size from z~3 to…
Beyond linear response spectroscopy of ultracold fermi gases.
2005
We study RF-spectroscopy of ultracold Fermi gas by going beyond the linear response in the field-matter interaction. Higher order perturbation theory allows virtual processes and energy conservation beyond the single particle level. We formulate an effective higher order theory which agrees quantitatively with experiments on the pairing gap, and is consistent with the absence of the mean-field shift in the spin-flip experiment.
FFLO state in 1-, 2- and 3-dimensional optical lattices combined with a non-uniform background potential
2008
We study the phase diagram of an imbalanced two-component Fermi gas in optical lattices of 1-3 dimensions, considering the possibilities of the FFLO, Sarma/breached pair, BCS and normal states as well as phase separation, at finite and zero temperatures. In particular, phase diagrams with respect to average chemical potential and the chemical potential difference of the two components are considered, because this gives the essential information about the shell structures of phases that will occur in presence of an additional (harmonic) confinement. These phase diagrams in 1, 2 and 3 dimensions show in a striking way the effect of Van Hove singularities on the FFLO state. Although we focus o…

Circumstellar Disks in the Outer Galaxy: the Star-Forming Region NGC 1893
2008
It is still debated whether star formation process depends on environment. In particular it is yet unclear whether star formation in the outer Galaxy, where the environmental conditions are, theoretically, less conducive, occurs in the same way as in the inner Galaxy. We investigate the population of NGC1893, a young cluster ~3-4 Myr in the outer part of the Galaxy (galactic radius >11 Kpc), to explore the effects of environmental conditions on star forming regions. We present infrared observations acquired using the IRAC camera onboard the Spitzer Space Telescope and analyze the color-color diagrams to establish the membership of stars with excesses. We also merge this information with …
