Aktywność biologiczna Bacillus amyloliquefaciens wobec Fusarium spp. wyizolowanych z pędów szparaga (Asparagus officinalis L.)

2016

Patogeny roślin, takie jak Fusarium spp. to najważniejsze czynniki, które co roku powodują znaczne straty i/lub uszkodzenia produktów rolnych. Celem przeprowadzonych badań była ocena in vitro właściwości biologicznych B. amyloliquefaciens wobec F. proliferatum i F. oxysporum wyizolowanych z pędów bielonego szparaga odmiany Grolim. W badaniach uwzględniono: gęstość i wiek hodowli bakterii, rodzaj podłoża oraz wpływ płynu pohodowlanego. Ocenę właściwości antagonistycznych hodowli bakterii 6, 12, 24 i 48- godzinnych przeprowadzono w oparciu o wskaźniki: zdolność kiełkowania zarodników, tempo wzrostu liniowego i indeks tempa wzrostu grzybów z zastosowaniem podłoży PDA oraz szparagowego. Ex-ante and ex-post measurement of equality of opportunity in health: a normative decomposition.

2011

This paper proposes and discusses two different approaches to the definition of inequality in health: the ex-ante and the ex-post approach. It proposes strategies for measuring inequality of opportunity in health based on the path-independent Atkinson equality index. The proposed methodology is illustrated using data from the British Household Panel Survey; the results suggest that in the period 2000–2005, at least one-third of the observed health equalities in the UK were equalities of opportunity.

The Quest for Raw Materials in the British Paper Trade : The Development of the Bamboo Pulp and Paper Industry in British India up to 1939

2018

The British paper trade history was defined since the mid-1850s by a quest for a new raw material to replace rags. The requirements of the paper trade were first met by a discovery that esparto grass from Spain, and later from North Africa, could be utilised in British mills. Beginning in the late 1870s, the success of using esparto encouraged mill developments in British India. The increased dependence on imported wood pulp, the likelihood of a pulp famine, and the consequent increase in price for imported wood pulp drew attention to the possibility of making commercial volumes of good quality pulp from indigenous Indian grasses. Bamboo began being treated after the First World War, when t…

Servizi bancari essenziali: il conto corrente

2022

The work proposes an analysis of the various tools that can be invoked to bridge some frictions of the credit system in areas where the banking "service" is characterized by essentiality, such as in the case of bank account. The inefficiency of the traditional code regulations emerges with particular evidence when the recourse to banking intermediation is imposed by specific rules functionality to public interests, as in case of imposed virtual currency payments. The incidence of the cost of the service, often not adequately remunerated by the price, can cause an indiscriminate selection of customers, permitted by contractual rules that authorize the end of the relationship without requirin…

Forecasting basketball players' performance using sparse functional data*

2019

Statistics and analytic methods are becoming increasingly important in basketball. In particular, predicting players’ performance using past observations is a considerable challenge. The purpose of this study is to forecast the future behavior of basketball players. The available data are sparse functional data, which are very common in sports. So far, however, no forecasting method designed for sparse functional data has been used in sports. A methodology based on two methods to handle sparse and irregular data, together with the analogous method and functional archetypoid analysis is proposed. Results in comparison with traditional methods show that our approach is competitive and additio…

Low-complexity AoA and AoD Estimation in the Transformed Spatial Domain for Millimeter Wave MIMO Channels

2021

High-accuracy angle of arrival (AoA) and angle of departure (AoD) estimation is critical for cell search, stable communications and positioning in millimeter wave (mmWave) cellular systems. Moreover, the design of low-complexity AoA/AoD estimation algorithms is also of major importance in the deployment of practical systems to enable a fast and resource-efficient computation of beamforming weights. Parametric mmWave channel estimation allows to describe the channel matrix as a combination of direction-dependent signal paths, exploiting the sparse characteristics of mmWave channels. In this context, a fast Transformed Spatial Domain Channel Estimation (TSDCE) algorithm was recently proposed …

Contemporary psychology and women: A gender analysis of the scientific production

2017

Despite important advances made in recent decades, women are still underrepresented in science (less than 30% of authorships). This study presents a bibliometric analysis of all the Psychology articles published in 2009 included in the Web of Science database (Thomson Reuters) in order to examine the contribution of women in contemporary Psychology, their pattern of research collaboration, the scientific content and the scientific impact from a gender perspective. From a total of 90,067 authorships, gender could be identified in 74,413 (82.6%) of them, being 40,782 (54.8%) male authorships and 33,631 (45.2%) female authorships. These data corresponded to 24,477 (49.9%) individual men and 24…

Big Data in metagenomics: Apache Spark vs MPI.

2020

The progress of next-generation sequencing has lead to the availability of massive data sets used by a wide range of applications in biology and medicine. This has sparked significant interest in using modern Big Data technologies to process this large amount of information in distributed memory clusters of commodity hardware. Several approaches based on solutions such as Apache Hadoop or Apache Spark, have been proposed. These solutions allow developers to focus on the problem while the need to deal with low level details, such as data distribution schemes or communication patterns among processing nodes, can be ignored. However, performance and scalability are also of high importance when…

FASTA/Q data compressors for MapReduce-Hadoop genomics: space and time savings made easy

2021

Abstract Background Storage of genomic data is a major cost for the Life Sciences, effectively addressed via specialized data compression methods. For the same reasons of abundance in data production, the use of Big Data technologies is seen as the future for genomic data storage and processing, with MapReduce-Hadoop as leaders. Somewhat surprisingly, none of the specialized FASTA/Q compressors is available within Hadoop. Indeed, their deployment there is not exactly immediate. Such a State of the Art is problematic. Results We provide major advances in two different directions. Methodologically, we propose two general methods, with the corresponding software, that make very easy to deploy …

Daudzplakņu ekrāna meklēšanas uzdevums binokulāros un monokulāros apstākļos

2022
