Layout attributes and recall
2003
The spatial arrangement of elements such as icons in a computer interface may influence learning the interface. However, the effects of layout organization on users' information processing is relatively little studied so far. The three experiments of this paper examined two attributes of layouts: spatial grouping by proximity and semantic coherence. Learning was assessed by tasks in which 30 participants recalled icon-like items' labels, locations, or both as a series of study-recall trials. The results show that layout organization interacts with task demands. Semantic organization improves recall of labels, and spatial grouping supports recall of locations. When both labels and locations …
Carlo Scarpa : a [curious] shaft of light, a golden standard, the hands and a face of a woman : reflections on the design process and layout of Palaz…
2020
This study describes the spatial organization of the entire Gallery Regional Palace of Abatellis as a place of complex mediation between the commitment of the Carlo Scarpa project, the sense of measure and harmony and the requests of the curator Giorgio Vigni. The book tries to understand the link between the place and the design process of Scarpa, discarding the chronology of the intervention itself with reflections concerning the design process of the exhibition, they reveal a possible code message. It is a targeted reconnaissance, whose narrative is also recomposed by thanks to some clues (found during the study of the correspondence and drawings, not always known and published), which s…
The Development of Visuo-spatial Memory: How to Remember Location
1992
Recent studies on developmental differences in spatial memory have reported equivocal results. Some found an age-dependent improvement of memory performance whereas others did not. The two studies reported here investigate age differences in memory for visual-spatial information. A picture reconstruction task with simultaneous presentation of scene-like visual-spatial arrangements was used. Subjects had to recognise objects and to reconstruct the initial spatial arrangement. The first study with 5to 10year-olds produced the typical age-dependent improvement in recognising visual material as well as in remembering the locations of specific objects. No effect for age was obtained in memory f…
Cernay-lès-Reims (Marne).
Crystal structure of 1-(2-fluorobenzoyl)-2,7-dimethoxynaphthalene

The asymmetric unit of the compound contains two independent conformers. Each conformer is stacked along the a axis to form columns through van der Waals interactions only.
Foraging site fidelity shapes the spatial organisation of a population of female western barbastelle bats
2009
Abstract Information about the spatial distribution of individual foraging habitats, which determines the space required by a population to be viable, is vitally important for the conservation of bats. Detailed knowledge of this kind is crucial for the design of nature reserves and management plans. Recent field studies that examined habitat use and home range distribution of bats largely ignored factors like traditional range use vs. intra- and interspecific competition, which may be responsible for the spatial organisation of a population home range. We investigated the home range sizes and distribution of a maternity colony of the western barbastelle bat via radio telemetry in four conse…
Disrupted Spatial Organization of Cued Exogenous Attention Persists Into Adulthood in Developmental Dyslexia
2021
Purpose: Abnormal exogenous attention orienting and diffused spatial distribution of attention have been associated with reading impairment in children with developmental dyslexia. However, studies in adults have failed to replicate such relationships. The goal of the present study was to address this issue by assessing exogenous visual attention and its peripheral spatial distribution in adults with developmental dyslexia. Methods: We measured response times, accuracy and eye movements of 18 dyslexics and 19 typical readers in a cued discrimination paradigm, in which stimuli were presented at different peripheral eccentricities. Results: Results showed that adults with developmental dyslexia…
