Apodization of imaging systems by means of a random spatially nonstationary absorbing screen

The amplitude impulse response (AIR) of coherent imaging systems with random binary apodizers is analyzed. Formulas for the mean value and the variance of the AIR are derived for two statistical one-dimensional models of apodizers: (1) nonuniform low-density shot noise and (2) a nonuniform unipolar synchronous random process. We show that for both models a high signal-to-noise ratio is achieved within the central peak and the low-order sidelobes of the AIR. Apodizers based on the second model permit higher values of the signal-to-noise ratio than those based on the first one.

Axial resonance of periodic patterns by using a Fresnel biprism.

This paper proposes a method for the generation of high-contrast localized sinusoidal fringes with spatially noncoherent illumination and relatively high light throughput. The method, somehow similar to the classical Lau effect, is based on the use of a Fresnel biprism. It has some advantages over previous methods for the noncoherent production of interference fringes. One is the flexibility of the method, which allows the control of the fringe period by means of a simple axial shift of the biprism. SU-GG-T-70: A Dosimetric Study of the MicroSelectron HDR Ir-192 Brachytherapy Source

Purpose: Recently the manufacturer of the mHDR‐v2 HDR Ir‐192 brachytherapy source clarified design changes that may alter the existing dosimetric data for this source. The object of this study was to obtain new dose rate tables following the TG‐43 formalism and to provide these data in close proximity to the source with high spatial resolution including the electron dosimetric contributions from Ir‐192 disintegration. Noise-induced effects in population dynamics

We investigate the role of noise in the nonlinear relaxation of two ecosystems described by generalized Lotka-Volterra equations in the presence of multiplicative noise. Specifically we study two cases: (i) an ecosystem with two interacting species in the presence of periodic driving; (ii) an ecosystem with a great number of interacting species with random interaction matrix. We analyse the interplay between noise and periodic modulation for case (i) and the role of the noise in the transient dynamics of the ecosystem in the presence of an absorbing barrier in case (ii). Statistics of Galaxy Clustering

In this introductory talk we will establish connections between the statistical analysis of galaxy clustering in cosmology and recent work in mainstream spatial statistics. The lecture will review the methods of spatial statistics used by both sets of scholars, having in mind the cross-fertilizing purpose of the meeting series. Special topics will be: description of the galaxy samples, selection effects and biases, correlation functions, nearest neighbor distances, void probability functions, Fourier analysis, and structure statistics.

Stochastic models for phytoplankton dynamics in marine ecosystems

In this thesis, the stochastic advection-reaction-diffusion models are analyzed to obtain the vertical stationary spatial distributions of the main groups of picophytoplankton, which account about for 80% of total chlorophyll on average in Mediterranean Sea. In Chapter 1 we give a short presentation of the experimental and phytoplanktonic data collected during different oceanographic surveys in Mediterranean Sea. A crop field modeling to simulate agronomic images

In precision agriculture, crop/weed discrimination is often based on image analysis but though several algorithms using spatial information have been proposed, not any has been tested on relevant databases. A simple model that simulates virtual fields is developed to evaluate these algorithms. Virtual fields are made of crops, arranged according to agricultural practices and represented by simple patterns, and weeds that are spatially distributed using a statistical approach. Application of colour magnification technique for revealing skin microcirculation changes under regional anaesthetic input

In this work the colour magnification technique was applied for monitoring of palm skin microcirculation changes under peripheral (Plexus Brachialis with axiliary access) Regional Anaesthesia (RA). During the RA procedure 20 minute video of patient’s forearm was taken at steady light conditions. Video content was processed offline by custom developed Matlab software with build-in colour magnification algorithm that performs temporal filtering of video sequence near-heartbeat frequency, spatial decomposition of video and amplification of pulsatile signal in every pixel of skin image.
