Three new species of the subgenus Neoribates (Neoribates) (Acari, Oribatida, Parakalummidae) from Nepal

2014

Three new parakalummid mites of the subgenus Neoribates (Neoribates), N. (N.) parabulanovae sp. n., N. (N.) paramacrosacculatus sp. n. and N. (N.) pararotundus sp. n., are described from Nepalese soils. Neoribates (Neoribates) parabulanovae sp. n. is morphologically most similar to N. (N.) bulanovae Grishina, 2009, N. (N.) rotundus Aoki, 1982 and N. (N.) setiger Balogh & Mahunka, 1978, however, it differs from N. (N.) bulanovae by the body length, body and leg integument, morphology of bothridial setae, absence of aggenital setae, length of interlamellar setae and location of adanal setae ad3; from N. (N.) rotundus by the body size, body integument, morphology of bothridial setae and le…

Revision of New World Species of the Shore-fly Subgenus Allotrichoma Becker of the Genus Allotrichoma with Description of the Subgenus Neotrichoma (D…

2012

The New World species of the subgenera Allotrichoma Becker and Neotrichoma (new subgenus) are revised, including a phylogenetic analysis of the species groups and subgenera within the genus Allotrichoma. For phylogenetic perspective and to document the monophyly of the genus Allotrichoma and its included subgenera and species groups, we also provide a cladistic analysis of genera within the tribe Hecamedini. The ingroup included seven exemplar congeners from within Allotrichoma. Outgroup sampling included exemplars of other genera within Hecamedini and from the putative sister group, Lipochaetini, and to root the analysis, we used an exemplar of the tribe Discocerinini. Analyses with succes…

Diversity, ecology and biogeography of Antarctic benthic hydrozoans: the Weddell Sea and the Scotia Arc as study cases

2017

Notes on the genus Rasilinus Mazur, 2016 (Curculionidae: Curculioninae, Eugnomini), with the description of a new species from New Caledonia

2017

New data on the genus Rasilinus (Curculioninae, Eugnomini) are provided, including the description of a new species—Rasilinus bifasciatus sp. n., from New Caledonia. Illustrations and SEM photographs of male external morphology, terminalia, and a colour habitus of the adult of the new species are provided.

The first record of the genus Fulvius Stål, 1862 (Heteroptera: Miridae: Cylapinae) from continental China with description of a new species

2020

A new species of the genus Fulvius Stål, 1862 (Heteroptera: Miridae: Cylapinae: Fulviini) is described based on a couple of specimens collected in Yunnan Province in SW China. The genus is also reported from continental China for the first time. Detailed illustrations of the tarsi, the distribution of trichobothria on the metafemur and male genitalia are given, and an image of the dorsal habitus is presented.

New data on Siciliaria septemplicata (R.A. Philippi, 1836) complex (Gastropoda Clausiliidae) from the surroundings of Palermo (NW-Sicily, Italy)

2023

Siciliaria septemplicata (R.A. Philippi, 1836) (Gastropoda Clausiliidae) endemic from northwestern Sicily (Italy) is revised, using shell and genital characters. The diversity of the species complex, the taxonomic history, faunal data and distributional relationships are examined. Siciliaria septemplicata vincentii n. ssp. and S. septemplicata mariastellae n. ssp. from the surroundings of Palermo are here described

Umani e animali nell’antropologia socioculturale contemporanea

2022

In the chapter, I show the connection between the ways in which the nineteenth-twentieth century sociocultural anthropologists became interested in the study of human-animal relationships and the dominant conceptions about the relationship between humanity and animality in philosophical and scientific thought of these two centuries. Till the last part of the twentieth century non-human animals were considered by anthropologists mainly as material and/or symbolic resources for the reproduction of humans and their social orders. This view paralleled the dominant vision in Western modern philosophical and scientific thought in which non-human animals were assimilated to mindless machines belon…

CHEMICAL INVESTIGATION OF THE INVASIVE ALGA CAULERPA TAXIFOLIA VAR. DISTICHOPHYLLA FROM SICILIAN COASTS

2018

Biological invasions by non-indigenous species have been widely recognized among the most important threats to the integrity of Mediterranean ecosystems, often resulting in huge economic and societal impacts. The success of non-indigenous macrophytes in the new range may be due to a variety of factors such as their vegetative reproductive strategy and synthesis of toxic compounds. These toxic compounds may influence native consumers by reducing their performance with negative implications for their overall grazing activity and, ultimately, for their ability to control the spread of the invasive algae in the new area. In particular, the invasive algae Caulerpa taxifolia (Vahl) C. Agardh (Ct)…
