Considerations for Using Domain-Specific Modeling in the Analysis Phase of Software Development Process

2002

Recent studies claim that domain-specific modeling may highly increase development productivity in specific well-defined domains. Domain-specific modeling is most often used only in the design phase of software development process, while general-purpose modeling techniques are used in the other phases. Integrating general-purpose modeling techniques with domain-specific modeling might be problematic, which is why in this paper we consider if it is feasible to extend domain-specific modeling to cover analysis phase activities in addition to design phase activities. Essentially, we discuss the different activities in analysis phase and consider whether or not domain-specific techniques can be…

Data from: The dual role of rivers in facilitating or hindering movements of the false heath fritillary butterfly

2016

Background: Species movement responses to landscape structures have been studied using a variety of methods, but movement research is still in need of simple methods that help predicting and comparing movements across structurally different landscapes. We demonstrate how habitat-specific movement models can be used to disentangle causes of differentiated movement patterns in structurally different landscapes and to predict movement patterns in altered and artificial landscapes. In our case study, we studied the role of riparian landscapes to the persistence of the endangered false heath fritillary butterfly (Melitaea diamina) in its newly discovered coastal distribution region in Finland. W…

From Clinical Imaging to Patient-Specific Computational Model: Rapid Adaptation of the Living Heart Human Model to a Case of Aortic Stenosis

2021

Aortic stenosis (AS) is the most common acquired heart valve disease in the developed world. Traditional methods of grading AS have relied on the measurement of aortic valve area and transvalvular pressure gradient. Recent research has highlighted the existence of AS variants that do not meet classic criteria for severe AS such as low-flow, low-gradient AS. With the development of sophisticated multi-scale computational models, investigation into the left ventricular (LV) biomechanics of AS offers new insights into the pathophysiology that may guide treatment decisions surrounding AS. Building upon our prior study entailing LV-aortic coupling where AS conditions were applied to the idealize…
