Analysis of the Modifications in the Spectral and Morphologic Regularity during Ventricular Fibrillation Produced by Physical Exercise and the Use of…

2015

Chronic physical exercise modifies cardiac activity improving response to malignant arrhythmia and, specifically, ventricular fibrillation (VF). Drug administration as glibenclamide, responsible for K + ATP channel blocking, is also generating a positive response against fibrillation.

Propriétés spectrales des filtres usuels en économie : désaisonnalisation par CENSUS XII, et différences d'ordre d

1985

This study concerns the efficiency of usual statistical filters in economics to reduce the tendencial and seasonal components : the moving average processes of CENSUS Xll seasonal adjustment method and the difference sof d order early proposed by BOX-JENKINS. We are herein using the spectral and cospectral analyses to know whether the other components keep stable in the filtering process and whether the leads and lags found on the basis of the initial original data are kept after these filtering processes. One application illustrates the problems by means of monthly indicators that are highly representative of French economic evolution from 1963 up to 1982.This theoretical and empirical res…

Extending the spectral decomposition of Granger causality to include instantaneous influences: application to the control mechanisms of heart rate va…

2021

Assessing Granger causality (GC) intended as the influence, in terms of reduction of variance of surprise, that a driver variable exerts on a given target, requires a suitable treatment of ‘instantaneous’ effects, i.e. influences due to interactions whose time scale is much faster than the time resolution of the measurements, due to unobserved confounders or insufficient sampling rate that cannot be increased because the mechanism of generation of the variable is inherently slow (e.g. the heartbeat). We exploit a recently proposed framework for the estimation of causal influences in the spectral domain and include instantaneous interactions in the modelling, thus obtaining (i) a novel index…

Spatial identification of the overionized plasma in W49B

2010

Recent Suzaku X-ray observations of the ejecta-dominated supernova remnant W49B have shown that in the global spectrum there is a clear indication for the presence of overionized plasma whose physical origin is still under debate. In order to ascertain the physical origin of such a rapidly cooling plasma, we focus on the study of its spatial localization within the X-ray emitting ejecta. We confirm the presence of a saw-edged excess (interpreted as a strong radiative recombination continuum) in the global spectrum above 8 keV, emerging above the ionization-equilibrium model. We produce a hardness ratio map to determine where the plasma is overionized and we perform a spectral analysis of th…

NuSTARandXMM–Newtonbroad-band spectrum of SAX J1808.4–3658 during its latest outburst in 2015

2018

The first discovered accreting millisecond pulsar, SAX J1808.4-3658, went into X-ray outburst in April 2015. We triggered a 100 ks XMM-Newton ToO, taken at the peak of the outburst, and a 55 ks NuSTAR ToO, performed four days apart. We report here the results of a detailed spectral analysis of both the XMM-Newton and NuSTAR spectra. While the XMM-Newton spectrum appears much softer than in previous observations, the NuSTAR spectrum confirms the results obtained with XMM-Newton during the 2008 outburst. We find clear evidence of a broad iron line that we interpret as produced by reflection from the inner accretion disk. For the first time, we use a self-consistent reflection model to fit the…

Spectral analysis and orbital evolution of Low Mass X-ray Binaries at high inclination

X-Ray binaries are gravitationally bound systems consisting of a compact object that accretes matter from a companion star; they are the most interesting objects of the sky, infact they allow to study the physics of matter in very extreme conditions of density, temperature or magnetic eld. So the determination of spectral and temporal properties of X-ray binaries plays an important role in understanding the processes involved in these systems. This project aims to understand the properties of binary systems, at high inclination (dipping and eclips- ing sources), containing neutron stars weakly magnetized. In the light curves of these systems it is possible to identify a variety of modulatio…

Annihilating sets for the short time Fourier transform

2010

Abstract We obtain a class of subsets of R 2 d such that the support of the short time Fourier transform (STFT) of a signal f ∈ L 2 ( R d ) with respect to a window g ∈ L 2 ( R d ) cannot belong to this class unless f or g is identically zero. Moreover we prove that the L 2 -norm of the STFT is essentially concentrated in the complement of such a set. A generalization to other Hilbert spaces of functions or distributions is also provided. To this aim we obtain some results on compactness of localization operators acting on weighted modulation Hilbert spaces.

Identification of microplastics using 4‐dimethylamino‐4′‐nitrostilbene solvatochromic fluorescence

2021

In this work, we introduce the use of 4-dimethylamino-4'-nitrostilbene (DANS) fluorescent dye for applications in the detection and analysis of microplastics, an impendent source of pollution made of synthetic organic polymers with a size varying from less than 5 mm to nanometer scale. The use of this dye revealed itself as a versatile, fast and sensitive tool for readily discriminate microplastics in water environment. The experimental evidences herein presented demonstrate that DANS efficiently absorbs into a variety of polymers constituting microplastics, and its solvatochromic properties lead to a positive shift of the fluorescence emission spectrum according to the polarity of the poly…

Non-Parametric Rank Statistics for Spectral Power and Coherence

2019

AbstractDespite advances in multivariate spectral analysis of neural signals, the statistical inference of measures such as spectral power and coherence in practical and real-life scenarios remains a challenge. The non-normal distribution of the neural signals and presence of artefactual components make it difficult to use the parametric methods for robust estimation of measures or to infer the presence of specific spectral components above the chance level. Furthermore, the bias of the coherence measures and their complex statistical distributions are impediments in robust statistical comparisons between 2 different levels of coherence. Non-parametric methods based on the median of auto-/c…
