The novel and sensitive In-Gas Laser Ionization Spectroscopy (IGLIS) technique enables high-precision laser spectroscopy of the heaviest elements and isotopes very far from stability that are produced in fusion-evaporation reactions at in-flight separators. Scene-based spectral calibration assessment of high spectral resolution imaging spectrometers

An accurate knowledge of the spectral calibration of imaging spectrometers is required for optimum data processing and interpretation. The scene-based spectral characterization of imaging spectrometers is frequently necessary to update or replace the pre-flight laboratory-based spectral characterization supplied by the data provider. Continuous-wave cavity ring-down polarimetry

We present a new cavity-based polarimetric scheme for highly sensitive and time-resolved measurements of birefringence and dichroism, linear and circular, that employs rapidly pulsed single-frequency continuous wave (CW) laser sources and extends current cavity-based spectropolarimetric techniques. We demonstrate how the use of a CW laser source allows for gains in spectral resolution, signal intensity, and data acquisition rate compared to traditional pulsed-based cavity ring-down polarimetry (CRDP). Gas-Phase Spectroscopic Detection and Structural Elucidation of Carbon-Rich Group 14 Binary Clusters: Linear GeC3Ge

Guided by high-level quantum-chemical calculations at the CCSD(T) level of theory, the first polyatomic germanium-carbon cluster, linear Ge2C3, has been observed at high spectral resolution in the gas phase through its remarkably complex fundamental antisymmetric C-C stretching mode ν3 located at 1932 cm(-1). The observation of a total of six isotopic species permits the derivation of a highly accurate value for the equilibrium Ge-C bond length. The present study suggests that many more Ge-C species might be detectable in the future using a combination of laser-ablation techniques for production and high-resolution infrared and/or microwave techniques for spectroscopic detection.

Charge-exchange reactions on double-βdecaying nuclei populatingJπ=2−states

The $(\phantom{\rule{0.16em}{0ex}}^{3}\mathrm{He},t)$ charge-exchange reaction populating ${J}^{\ensuremath{\pi}}={2}^{\ensuremath{-}}$ states has been examined at 420 MeV incident energy for a series of double-$\ensuremath{\beta}$ decaying nuclei, i.e., $^{76}\mathrm{Ge}$, $^{82}\mathrm{Se}$, $^{96}\mathrm{Zr}$, $^{100}\mathrm{Mo}$, $^{128}\mathrm{Te}$, $^{130}\mathrm{Te}$, and $^{136}\mathrm{Xe}$. Impacts of fragmented accretion streams onto Classical T Tauri Stars: UV and X-ray emission lines

The accretion process in Classical T Tauri Stars (CTTSs) can be studied through the analysis of some UV and X-ray emission lines which trace hot gas flows and act as diagnostics of the post-shock downfalling plasma. Chandra study of the eclipsing M dwarf binary, YY Gem

The eclipsing M dwarf binary system, YY Gem, was observed using Chandra covering 140 ks (2Prot) in total, split into two even exposures separated by 0.76 d (0.94 Prot). The system was extremely active: three energetic flares were observed over the course of these observations. The flaring and non-flaring states of the system are analysed in this paper. The activity level increased between the first and second observations even during the quiescent (non-flaring) phases. An analysis of the dynamics of the X-ray-emitting plasma suggests that both components are significantly active. Multi-phase interstellar clouds in the Vela SNR resolved with XMM-Newton

XMM-Newton spatial/spectral resolution and high effective area allow to deepen our knowledge about the shocks in Supernova Remnants and their interaction with the interstellar medium. We present the analysis of an EPIC observation of the northern rim of the Vela SNR and we compare the X-ray and optical morphology of the emission. We derive a description of the internal structure of the shocked interstellar clouds, arguing that the transmitted shock model is compatible with our data. The atmospheric structure and fundamental parameters of Red Supergiants

We present studies of the atmospheric structure and fundamental properties of the red supergiants (RSGs) VY CMa, AH Sco, UY Sct, and KW Sgr based on near-infrared K -band interferometry obtained with the VLTI/AMBER instrument with a spectral resolution of 1500. In our visibility data, we observe the presence of molecular layers of water and CO in extended atmospheres. For a uniform disk modeling, we observe size increases in the water band centered at 1.9 μ m and in the CO band at 2.3–2.5 μ m, with respect to the near-continuum bandpass (2.20–2.25 μ m). The X-ray Integral Field Unit (X-IFU) for Athena

Athena is designed to implement the Hot and Energetic Universe science theme selected by the European Space Agency for the second large mission of its Cosmic Vision program.
