Gas-Phase Spectroscopic Detection and Structural Elucidation of Carbon-Rich Group 14 Binary Clusters: Linear GeC3Ge
2016
Guided by high-level quantum-chemical calculations at the CCSD(T) level of theory, the first polyatomic germanium-carbon cluster, linear Ge2C3, has been observed at high spectral resolution in the gas phase through its remarkably complex fundamental antisymmetric C-C stretching mode ν3 located at 1932 cm(-1). The observation of a total of six isotopic species permits the derivation of a highly accurate value for the equilibrium Ge-C bond length. The present study suggests that many more Ge-C species might be detectable in the future using a combination of laser-ablation techniques for production and high-resolution infrared and/or microwave techniques for spectroscopic detection.
Rationalisation of the Optical Signatures of nor-Dihydroxanthene-Hemicyanine Fused Near-Infrared Fluorophores By First Principle Tools
2018
Using a computational approach combining the Time-Dependent Density Functional Theory (TD-DFT) and the second-order Coupled Cluster (CC2) approaches, we investigate the spectral properties of a large panel of nor-dihydroxanthene (DHX)-hemicyanine fused dyes. First we compare the theoretical and experimental 0-0 energies for a set of 14 known synthetic compounds and show that a remarkable agreement between theory and experiment is obtained when a suitable environmental model is selected. In addition, we obtain vibrationally-resolved spectra for several compounds and theory also accurately reproduces the experimental band shapes. We show that the electronic transitions in nor-DHX-based fluoro…
Analysis of the rovibrational spectrum of 13CH4 in the Octad range
2013
Abstract We have measured the infrared spectrum of methane 13 CH 4 from 1100 cm −1 (33 THz), below the fundamental range, to about 12 000 cm −1 (360 THz) in the high overtone region at temperatures ranging from 80 K to 300 K by high resolution Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy. With instrumental bandwidths between 0.0027 cm −1 (80 MHz) and 0.01 cm −1 (300 MHz) this provides close to Doppler-limited spectra, using the Zurich prototype spectrometer (ZP2001, Bruker 125HR) combined with a multipath collisional cooling cell. Using perturbation theory and an accurate empirically adjusted potential we have computed ro-vibrational energy levels of 13 CH 4 and 12 CH 4 in the same energy…
GSC 07396-00759 = V4046 Sgr C[D]: A Wide-separation Companion to the Close T Tauri Binary System V4046 Sgr AB
2011
We explore the possibility that GSC 07396-00759 (spectral type M1e) is a widely separated (~2.82', or projected separation ~12,350 AU) companion to the "old" (age ~12 Myr) classical T Tauri binary system V4046 Sgr AB, as suggested by the proximity and similar space motions of the two systems. If the two systems are equidistant and coeval, then GSC 07396--00759, like V4046 Sgr AB, must be a spectroscopic binary with nearly equal-mass components, and V4046 Sgr must be at least ~8 Myr old. Analysis of a serendipitous Chandra X-ray gratings spectrum and light curve as well as XMM-Newton light curves and CCD spectra of GSC 07396-00759 obtained during long exposures targeting V4046 Sgr AB reveals…
Probing the Broad Line Region and the Accretion Disk in the Lensed Quasars HE0435-1223, WFI2033-4723, and HE2149-2745 using Gravitational Microlensing
2017
We use single-epoch spectroscopy of three gravitationally lensed quasars, HE0435-1223, WFI2033-4723, and HE2149-2745, to study their inner structure (BLR and continuum source). We detect microlensing-induced magnification in the wings of the broad emission lines of two of the systems (HE0435-1223 and WFI2033-4723). In the case of WFI2033-4723, microlensing affects two "bumps" in the spectra which are almost symmetrically arranged on the blue (coincident with an AlIII emission line) and red wings of CIII]. These match the typical double-peaked profile that follows from disk kinematics. The presence of microlensing in the wings of the emission lines indicates the existence of two different re…
gA -driven shapes of electron spectra of forbidden β decays in the nuclear shell model
2017
The evolution of the shape of the electron spectra of 16 forbidden ${\ensuremath{\beta}}^{\ensuremath{-}}$ decays as a function of ${g}_{\mathrm{A}}$ was studied using the nuclear shell model in appropriate single-particle model spaces with established, well-tested nuclear Hamiltonians. The $\ensuremath{\beta}$ spectra of $^{94}\mathrm{Nb}({6}^{+})\ensuremath{\rightarrow}\phantom{\rule{0.16em}{0ex}}^{94}\mathrm{Mo}({4}^{+})$ and $^{98}\mathrm{Tc}({6}^{+})\ensuremath{\rightarrow}\phantom{\rule{0.16em}{0ex}}^{98}\mathrm{Ru}({4}^{+})$ were found to depend strongly on ${g}_{\mathrm{A}}$, which makes them excellent candidates for the determination of the effective value of ${g}_{\mathrm{A}}$ wit…
Second-forbidden nonunique β− decays of Na24 and Cl36 assessed by the nuclear shell model
2020
We have performed a systematic study of the $logft$ values, shape factors, and electron spectra for the second-forbidden nonunique ${\ensuremath{\beta}}^{\ensuremath{-}}$ decays of $^{24}\mathrm{Na}({4}^{+})\ensuremath{\rightarrow}^{24}\mathrm{Mg}({2}^{+})$ and $^{36}\mathrm{Cl}({2}^{+}){\ensuremath{\rightarrow}}^{36}\mathrm{Ar}({0}^{+})$ transitions under the framework of the nuclear shell model. We have performed the shell model calculations in the $sd$ model space, using more recent microscopic effective interactions such as Daejeon16, chiral N3LO, and JISP16. These interactions are derived from the no-core shell model wave functions using Okubo-Lee-Suzuki transformation. For comparison,…
APOGEE Data Releases 13 and 14: Stellar Parameter and Abundance Comparisons with Independent Analyses
2018
Data from the SDSS-IV / Apache Point Observatory Galactic Evolution Experiment (APOGEE-2) have been released as part of SDSS Data Releases 13 (DR13) and 14 (DR14). These include high resolution H-band spectra, radial velocities, and derived stellar parameters and abundances. DR13, released in August 2016, contained APOGEE data for roughly 150,000 stars, and DR14, released in August 2017, added about 110,000 more. Stellar parameters and abundances have been derived with an automated pipeline, the APOGEE Stellar Parameter and Chemical Abundance Pipeline (ASPCAP). We evaluate the performance of this pipeline by comparing the derived stellar parameters and abundances to those inferred from opti…
Selected Aspects in the Structure of Beta-Delayed Particle Spectra
1986
Some weak beta-delayed particle emitters in the Tz = -3/2, -1, -1/2, +1/2 and +5/2 series are reviewed. Selected features of the delayed particle emission are discussed in terms of experimental delayed particle data and (p, γ), (p, p') and (p, n) reaction data. Experimental beta transition strengths are compared with the existing complete shell-model calculations for the sd-shell nuclei. The effect of the Gamow-Teller giant resonance on the structure of the delayed particle spectra is considered. The correlation between the widths of two decay channels, protons and alpha particles, and the preceeding beta decay is studied in the case of the 40Sc decay.
Microlensing and Intrinsic Variability of the Broad Emission Lines of Lensed Quasars
2018
We study the broad emission lines in a sample of 11 gravitationally lensed quasars with at least two epochs of observation to identify intrinsic variability and to disentangle it from microlensing. To improve our statistical significance and emphasize trends, we also include 15 lens systems with single-epoch spectra. Mg ii and C iii] emission lines are only weakly affected by microlensing, but C iv shows strong microlensing in some cases, even for regions of the line core, presumably associated with small projected velocities. However, excluding the strongly microlensed cases, there is a strikingly good match, on average, between the red wings of the C iv and C iii] profiles. Analysis of th…
