Hyperfine structure study of Tc97,98,99 in a new laser ion source for high-resolution laser spectroscopy

Using a novel concept for efficient laser spectroscopy, we investigated the hyperfine splittings of three different atomic transitions in the long-lived isotopes $^{97\ensuremath{-}99}\mathrm{Tc}$. Despite the refractory character of the element technetium, sample sizes as low as ${10}^{11}$ atoms were sufficient to achieve excellent signal-to-noise ratios at a spectroscopic linewidth of less than 100 MHz. The obtained spectra were analyzed in detail, which results in a very good consistency for the extracted hyperfine parameters from the different transitions. Experimental studies of the NaRb ground-state potential up to thev″=76level

Laser induced fluorescence spectra of the C {sup 1}{sigma}{sup +}-X {sup 1}{sigma}{sup +} system of {sup 23}Na{sup 85}Rb and {sup 23}Na{sup 87}Rb have allowed vibrational levels of the electronic ground state up to v{sup ''}=76, spanning 99.85% of the potential well to be observed. The ground-state term values have been fitted to a Dunham polynomial expansion, and also to a direct modified Lennard-Jones (MLJ) potential. The analytical MLJ construction allowed us to match previous measured term values for v{sup ''}{<=}30 with long-range behavior of the potential through the intermediate internuclear distance region covered by the present investigation.

Context. High-resolution X-ray spectra of neutron star low-mass X-ray binaries (LMXBs) in the energy range 6.4-6.97 keV are often characterized by the presence of K alpha transition features of iron at different ionization stages. Since these lines are thought to originate by reflection of the primary Comptonization spectrum over the accretion disk, the study of these features allows us to investigate the structure of the accretion flow close to the central source. Monte Carlo Markov Chain DEM reconstruction of isothermal plasmas

In this paper, we carry out tests on the Monte Carlo Markov Chain (MCMC) technique with the aim of determining: 1) its ability to retrieve isothermal plasmas from a set of spectral line intensities, with and without random noise; 2) to what extent can it discriminate between an isothermal solution and a narrow multithermal distribution; and 3) how well it can detect multiple isothermal components along the line of sight. We also test the effects of 4) atomic data uncertainties on the results, and 5) the number of ions whose lines are available for the DEM reconstruction. Orientation dependence of high-order harmonic generation in molecules

We present two- and three-dimensional model calculations of high-order harmonic generation in ${\mathrm{H}}_{2}^{+}.$ The harmonic spectra exhibit clear signatures of intramolecular interference. An interference minimum appears at a harmonic order that depends on the molecular orientation. Harmonic generation in three-center molecules is studied on the basis of two-dimensional calculations for a ${\mathrm{H}}_{3}^{2+}$ model system. From analytical considerations, the orientation dependence of the harmonic intensities in three-center molecules exhibits a double minimum due to intramolecular interference. On X-ray Optical Depth in the Coronae of Active Stars

We have investigated the optical thickness of the coronal plasma through the analysis of high-resolution X-ray spectra of a large sample of active stars observed with the High Energy Transmission Grating Spectrometer on Chandra. In particular, we probed for the presence of significant resonant scattering in the strong Lyman series lines arising from hydrogen-like oxygen and neon ions. The active RS CVn-type binaries II Peg and IM Peg and the single M dwarf EV Lac show significant optical depth. For these active coronae, the Lya/Lyb ratios are significantly depleted as compared with theoretical predictions and with the same ratios observed in similar active stars. Retrieval of sun-induced fluorescence using advanced spectral fitting methods

Abstract The FLuorescence EXplorer (FLEX) satellite mission, candidate of ESA's 8th Earth Explorer program, is explicitly optimized for detecting the sun-induced fluorescence emitted by plants. It will allow consistent measurements around the O2-B (687 nm) and O2-A (760 nm) bands, related to the red and far-red fluorescence emission peaks respectively, the photochemical reflectance index, and the structural-chemical state variables of the canopy. High-resolution laser spectroscopy of Al27–32

Hyperfine spectra of $^\text{27-32}$Al ($Z=13$) have been measured at the ISOLDE-CERN facility via collinear laser spectroscopy using the $3s^23p\ ^2\text{P}^\text{o} _{3/2}\rightarrow 3s^24s\ ^2\text{S}_{1/2}$ atomic transition. For the first time, mean-square charge radii of radioactive aluminum isotopes have been determined alongside the previously unknown magnetic dipole moment of $^{29}$Al and electric quadrupole moments of $^{29,30}$Al. A potentially reduced charge radius at $N=19$ may suggest an effect of the $N=20$ shell closure, which is visible in the Al chain, contrary to other isotopic chains in the $sd$ shell. In the preceding chapter we constructed and discussed the simplest possible nuclear wave functions. This construction was done at the mean-field level. No account was taken of configuration mixing caused by the nuclear residual interaction. These simple wave functions produce degeneracies in energy spectra. This is contrary to experimental data, so improved wave functions are called for.
