Mass number scaling in ultra-relativistic nuclear collisions from a hydrodynamical approach

We study the different nucleus-nucleus collisions, O+Au, S+S, S+Ag, S+Au and Pb+Pb, at the CERN-SPS energy in a one-fluid hydrodynamical approach using a parametrization based on baryon stopping in terms of the thickness of colliding nuclei. Good agreement with measured particle spectra is achieved. We deduce the mass number scaling behaviour of the initial energy density. We find that the equilibration time is nearly independent of the size of the colliding nuclei.

Photoproduction of high-energy neutrons in thick targets by electrons in the energy range 150 to 270 MeV

Photoneutron spectra with energies greater than 12 MeV produced by electrons incident on a thick lead target have been measured for primary electron energies between 150 and 266 MeV and at a fixed angle of 90 ° to the beam axis. Measurements of the neutron yield have furthermore been performed at a primary energy of 234 MeV as a function of target depth for the same lead target and as a function of the mass number for C, Al, Cu, Cd and Pb targets. The results were obtained with three independent neutron detectors: two proton recoil counters and one time-of-flight set-up. O(αs)corrections to the correlator of finite mass baryon currents

We present analytical next-to-leading order results for the correlator of baryonic currents at the three-loop level with one finite mass quark. We obtain the massless and the HQET limit of the correlator from the general formula as particular cases. We also give explicit expressions for the moments of the spectral density.

SHIFT AND WIDTH OF HeII LINES

Abstract Based on a quantum statistical many-particle theory, the shift and the width of some He II lines have been evaluated. Ion dynamics have been treated within the model microfield method. Furthermore, fine structure splitting has been taken into account in order to check whether this effect is the cause for the existing large discrepancies between theoretical and experimental line widths. Besides the electronic contributions to the line shift, the shift due to the inhomogeneities of the ionic microfield as well as that due to the quadratic Stark effect has been included.

Structure of the Odd-A, Shell-Stabilized NucleusNo102253

In-beam {gamma}-ray spectroscopic measurements have been made on {sub 102}{sup 253}No. A single rotational band was identified up to a probable spin of 39/2({Dirac_h}/2{pi}), which is assigned to the 7/2{sup +}[624] Nilsson configuration. The bandhead energy and the moment of inertia provide discriminating tests of contemporary models of the heaviest nuclei. Novel methods were required to interpret the sparse data set associated with cross sections of around 50 nb. These methods included comparisons of experimental and simulated spectra, as well as testing for evidence of a rotational band in the {gamma}{gamma} matrix.

Regularities of Line Strengths in Spectra of NI, FI, and NeII

Recently experimentally determined individual (fine structure) line strengths for the spectra of NI, FI, and NeII are analysed, searching for regu- larities resulting from similarities in the structure of these species. Strengths of spectral lines of the prominent 3S-3p and 3p-3d transition arrays are investigated. The absolute scales of these experimentally derived data are based on independently determined lifetimes for excited levels of NI, FI, and NeII. The simple Coulomb approximation method was applied for calcula- tions of the matrix elements for the "jumping" electron in order to obtain an average trend in line strengths of the studied emitters. Light polarization measurements in tests of macrorealism

According to the world view of macrorealism, the properties of a given system exist prior to and independent of measurement, which is incompatible with quantum mechanics. Leggett and Garg put forward a practical criterion capable of identifying violations of macrorealism, and so far experiments performed on microscopic and mesoscopic systems have always ruled out in favor of quantum mechanics.
