Die relative Isotopenlage des Os186

1962

Using three different samples of Os192, Os190 and Os186 enriched to 98.68%, 95.46%, and 61.27%, respectively, the isotopic shiftsΔν(Os192−Os190) andΔν(Os192−Os186) have been measured in four Os I-lines with a recording Fabry-Perot spectrometer. The relative isotopic position of Os186 has been found to be $$\frac{{\Delta \nu (Os^{192} - Os^{186} )}}{{\Delta \nu (Os^{192} - Os^{190} )}} = 3.52 \pm 0.03.$$

Combining spectral and shock-capturing methods: A new numerical approach for 3D relativistic core collapse simulations

2005

We present a new three-dimensional general relativistic hydrodynamics code which is intended for simulations of stellar core collapse to a neutron star, as well as pulsations and instabilities of rotating relativistic stars. Contrary to the common approach followed in most existing three-dimensional numerical relativity codes which are based in Cartesian coordinates, in this code both the metric and the hydrodynamics equations are formulated and solved numerically using spherical polar coordinates. A distinctive feature of this new code is the combination of two types of accurate numerical schemes specifically designed to solve each system of equations. More precisely, the code uses spectra…

Measurement of the branching fraction andΛ¯polarization inB0→Λ¯pπ−

2009

We present a measurement of the B0 --> Lambda-bar p pi- branching fraction performed using the BaBar detector at the PEP-II asymmetric e+e- collider. Based on a sample of 467 million BB-bar pairs we measure B(B0 --> Lambda-bar p pi-) = [3.07 pm 0.31 (stat.) pm 0.23 (syst.)] x 10^{-6}. The measured differential spectrum as a function of the dibaryon invariant mass m(Lambda p) shows a near-threshold enhancement similar to that observed in other baryonic B decays. We study the Lambda-bar polarization as a function of Lambda-bar energy in the B0 rest frame (E*_Lambda) and compare it with theoretical expectations of fully longitudinally right-polarized Lambda-bar at large E*_Lambda.

Non-standard antineutrino interactions at Daya Bay

2011

We study the prospects of pinning down the effects of non-standard antineutrino interactions in the source and in the detector at the Daya Bay neutrino facility. It is well known that if the non-standard interactions in the detection process are of the same type as those in the production, their net effect can be subsumed into a mere shift in the measured value of the leptonic mixing angle theta_13. Relaxing this assumption, the ratio of the antineutrino spectra measured by the Daya Bay far and near detectors is distorted in a characteristic way, and good fits based on the standard oscillation hypothesis are no longer viable. We show that, under certain conditions, three years of Daya Bay r…

Do current data prefer a nonminimally coupled inflaton?

2015

We examine the impact of a non-minimal coupling of the inflaton to the Ricci scalar, $\frac12 \xi R\phi^2$, on the inflationary predictions. Such a non-minimal coupling is expected to be present in the inflaton Lagrangian on fairly general grounds. As a case study, we focus on the simplest inflationary model governed by the potential $V\propto \phi^2$, using the latest combined 2015 analysis of Planck and BICEP2/Keck Array. We find that the presence of a coupling $\xi$ is favoured at a significance of $99\%$ CL, assuming that nature has chosen the potential $V\propto \phi^2$ to generate the primordial perturbations and a number of e-foldings $N=60$. Within the context of the same scenario, …

Radial and elliptic flow at RHIC: further predictions

2001

Using a hydrodynamic model, we predict the transverse momentum dependence of the spectra and the elliptic flow for different hadrons in Au+Au collisions at sqrt(s) = 130 A GeV. The dependence of the differential and p_t-integrated elliptic flow on the hadron mass, equation of state and freeze-out temperature is studied both numerically and analytically.

Measurement of jet suppression in central Pb–Pb collisions at sNN=2.76 TeV

2015

The transverse momentum(p(T)) spectrum and nuclear modification factor (R-AA) of reconstructed jets in 0-10% and 10-30% central Pb-Pb collisions at root s(NN) = 2.76 TeV were measured. Jets were reconstructed using the anti-k(T) jet algorithm with a resolution parameter of R = 0.2 from charged and neutral particles, utilizing the ALICE tracking detectors and Electromagnetic Calorimeter (EMCal). The jet p(T) spectra are reported in the pseudorapidity interval of \eta(jet)\ 5 GeV/c to suppress jets constructed from the combinatorial background in Pb-Pb collisions. The leading charged particle requirement applied to jet spectra both in pp and Pb-Pb collisions had a negligible effect on the R-A…

Suppression of charged particle production at large transverse momentum in central Pb–Pb collisions at sNN=2.76 TeV

2011

Inclusive transverse momentum spectra of primary charged particles in Pb-Pb collisions at root s(NN) = 2.76 TeV have been measured by the ALICE Collaboration at the LHC. The data are presented for central and peripheral collisions, corresponding to 0-5% and 70-80% of the hadronic Pb-Pb cross section. The measured charged particle spectra in |eta| < 0.8 and 0.3 < p(T) < 20 GeV/c are compared to the expectation in pp collisions at the same root s(NN), scaled by the number of underlying nucleon-nucleon collisions. The comparison is expressed in terms of the nuclear modification factor R-AA. The result indicates only weak medium effects (R-AA approximate to 0.7) in peripheral collisions. In cen…

Production of charged pions, kaons and protons at large transverse momenta in pp and Pb–Pb collisions at sNN=2.76 TeV

2014

Transverse momentum spectra of pi(+/-), K-+/- and p((p) over bar) up to p(T) = 20 GeV/c at mid-rapidity in pp, peripheral (60-80%) and central (0-5%) Pb-Pb collisions at v root s(NN) = 2.76 TeV have been measured using the ALICE detector at the Large Hadron Collider. The proton-to-pion and the kaon-to-pionratios both show a distinct peak at p(T) approximate to 3 GeV/c in central Pb-Pb collisions. Below the peak, p(T) 10 GeV/c particle ratios in pp and Pb-Pb collisions are in agreement and the nuclear modification factors for pi(+/-), K-+/- and p((p) over bar) indicate that, within the systematic and statistical uncertainties, the suppression is the same. This suggests that the chemical comp…

A perturbative QCD analysis of charged-particle distributions in hadronic and nuclear collisions

2002

We compute the distributions of charged particles at large transverse momenta in $p\bar p(p)$, $pA$ and $AA$ collisions in the framework of perturbative QCD, by using collinear factorization and the modern PDFs and fragmentation functions. At the highest cms-energies the shape of the spectra measured in $p\bar p(p)$ collisions at large $q_T$ can be well explained. The difference between the data and the lowest-order computation is quantified in terms of a constant $K$-factor for each energy. The $K$-factor is found to systematically decrease with growing $\sqrt s$. Also a lower limit for the partonic transverse momentum, $p_0$, is extracted for each $\sqrt s$ based on the comparison with th…
