Model-independent fit to Planck and BICEP2 data
2014
Inflation is the leading theory to describe elegantly the initial conditions that led to structure formation in our universe. In this paper, we present a novel phenomenological fit to the Planck, WMAP polarisation (WP) and the BICEP2 datasets using an alternative parameterisation. Instead of starting from inflationary potentials and computing the inflationary observables, we use a phenomenological parameterisation due to Mukhanov, describing inflation by an effective equation-of-state, in terms of the number of e-folds and two phenomenological parameters $\alpha$ and $\beta$. Within such a parametrisation, which captures the different inflationary models in a model-independent way, the valu…
Circinus X-1 observed with BeppoSAX wide field cameras
1999
Abstract We present a sky image and spectra for various orbital phases of Circinus X-1 observed by B-SAX Wide Field Cameras. We suggest that the spectral shape is dependent on the orbital phase.
Discrete lineγ-ray spectroscopy in the(50–60)ħspin domain of161,162Er
2000
Very high spin states $(I=50--60\ensuremath{\Elzxh})$ have been observed in the transitional nuclei ${}^{161}\mathrm{Er}$ and ${}^{162}\mathrm{Er}$ using the Euroball $\ensuremath{\gamma}$-ray spectrometer. In ${}^{161}\mathrm{Er},$ three bands are observed well above spin $50\ensuremath{\Elzxh}.$ In the positive parity, positive signature $(+,+\frac{1}{2})$ band a discontinuity in the regular rotational behavior occurs at ${\frac{109}{2}}^{+}$ and a splitting into two branches occurs at ${\frac{97}{2}}^{\ensuremath{-}}$ in the negative parity, positive signature $(\ensuremath{-},+\frac{1}{2})$ band. The $(\ensuremath{-},\ensuremath{-}\frac{1}{2})$ band continues in a regular fashion to ${\…
Non-standard interactions with high-energy atmospheric neutrinos at IceCube
2017
Non-standard interactions in the propagation of neutrinos in matter can lead to significant deviations from expectations within the standard neutrino oscillation framework and atmospheric neutrino detectors have been considered to set constraints. However, most previous works have focused on relatively low-energy atmospheric neutrino data. Here, we consider the one-year high-energy through-going muon data in IceCube, which has been already used to search for light sterile neutrinos, to constrain new interactions in the $\mu\tau$-sector. In our analysis we include several systematic uncertainties on both, the atmospheric neutrino flux and on the detector properties, which are accounted for v…
The performance of thin layers produced by molecular plating as α-particle sources
2013
Abstract Sources for α-spectroscopy studies were prepared. Constant current density molecular plating was used to produce layers containing the α-particle emitter 147 Sm. Different parameters of the molecular plating process were varied, namely the plating solvent (an isopropanol/isobutanol mixture, pyridine, and N , N -dimethylformamide), the applied deposition time (90, 180, and 360 min), and the surface roughness of the deposition substrate (ca. 10, 20, and 300 nm). Using different analytical techniques, Sm deposition yields, chemical composition of the produced surfaces, surface homogeneity, roughness and morphology were investigated. Alpha spectra were recorded with a Si solid-state de…
Systematics of nuclear charge distributions in Fe, Co, Ni, Cu, and Zn deduced from muonic x-ray measurements
1976
The results of precise measurements of the energies of the $2{p}_{\frac{3}{2}}\ensuremath{\rightarrow}1{s}_{\frac{1}{2}}$ and $2{p}_{\frac{1}{2}}\ensuremath{\rightarrow}1{s}_{\frac{1}{2}}$ muonic x-ray transitions of $^{54}\mathrm{Fe}$, $^{56}\mathrm{Fe}$, $^{57}\mathrm{Fe}$, $^{58}\mathrm{Fe}$, $^{59}\mathrm{Co}$, $^{58}\mathrm{Ni}$, $^{60}\mathrm{Ni}$, $^{61}\mathrm{Ni}$, $^{62}\mathrm{Ni}$, $^{64}\mathrm{Ni}$, $^{63}\mathrm{Cu}$, $^{65}\mathrm{Cu}$, $^{64}\mathrm{Zn}$, $^{66}\mathrm{Zn}$, $^{68}\mathrm{Zn}$, and $^{70}\mathrm{Zn}$, are reported. Using a highly linear digitally stabilized Ge(Li) spectrometer system, the absolute energies and energy shifts between nuclei were measured with…
Lifetime measurement in 195Po
2009
The lifetime of the 17/2+ yrast state in 195Po has been measured using the recoil distance Doppler-shift technique to be $ \tau$ = 43(11) ps. The lifetime was extracted from the singles $ \gamma$ -ray spectra obtained by using the recoil-decay tagging method. The present work provides more information of the coupling schemes, shapes and configuration mixing in neutron-deficient odd-mass Po nuclei.
Ground-state spin of 59Mn
2001
Beta decay of $^{59}$Mn has been studied at PSB-ISOLDE, CERN. The intense and pure Mn beam was produced using the Resonance Ionization Laser Ion Source (RILIS). Based on the measured $\beta$-decay rates the ground-state spin and parity are proposed to be $J^{\pi}$ = 5/2$^{-}$. This result is consistent with the systematic trend of the odd-A Mn nuclei and extends the systematics one step further towards the neutron drip line.
Present status of the caloric curve of nuclei
1998
Abstract Spectator decay was studied for the system Au + Au at an energy of 1000 A·MeV and the decay of the interaction region at energies between 50 and 200 A·MeV. In both cases temperatures were derived from several double-ratios of neighboring isotopes and from the population of excited states in 5 Li and 4 He. Agreement was found among the different isotope temperatures and also among the two excited state temperatures. The comparison of isotope and excited state temperatures, however, reveals large differences, which cannot be explained by feeding corrections. At incident energies between 600 and 1000 A·MeV the energy spectra of fragments and also neutrons of the decaying projectile sp…
Properties of isomeric states and the ?d 3/2-vi 13/2 multiplet in194Au
1977
The level structure of194Au has been studied by observing prompt and delayedγ-rays following194Pt(p,n) and195Pt(p,2n) reactions. The conversion electron andγ-ray spectra from the decay of the 0.42s (10−) and 0.60s (5+) isomers at 476 keV and 107.4 keV, respectively, have been measured using the He-jet method. The half-lives of the 6+ (278.2 keV, 1.1±0.4 ns), 7+ (224.6 keV, 2.6±0.2 ns) and 8+ (406.8 keV, 2.9±0.4 ns) members of theπd3/2-vi13/2 multiplet have been obtained from the time distributions between cyclotron beam pulses andγ-rays depopulating these levels. A calculation made assuming a pure two-particle configuration for the multiplet predicts very well theB(E2) values for the transi…
