Towards Shorter-Lived Nuclides in ISOLTRAP Mass Measurements
2001
Recently, the applicability of Penning trap mass spectrometry has been extended to nuclides with a half-life of less than one second. The mass of 33Ar(T 1/2 = 174 ms) was measured using the ISOLTRAP spectrometer with an accuracy of 4.2 keV. This measurement provided a stringent test of the Isobaric Multiplet Mass Equation (IMME) at mass number A = 33 and isospin T = 3/2. The fast measurement cycle that shows the way to other measurements of very-short-lived nuclides is presented. Furthermore, the results of the IMME test are displayed.
Two-body photodisintegration of the deuteron from 100 to 800 MeV
1996
Abstract The total and the differential cross sections for the D(γ,p)n reaction have been measured over the photon energy range 100-800 MeV at the 855 MeV MAMI Microtron in Mainz. Using the large acceptance detector DAPHNE in conjunction with the Glasgow tagging spectrometer, high precision results with small systematic errors were obtained. The data are presented in the form of thirty-five angular distributions at c.m. proton angles between 30°–160° in 10° intervals and at photon energies in steps of 20 MeV. Previous experimental work is reassessed in the light of the present results and comparison with some recent theoretical calculations.

The energy loss system of the electron scattering facility at the Mainz 300 MeV linear accelerator
1978
Abstract An energy loss system was constructed for the electron scattering facility at the Mainz 300 MeV linear accelerator with the aim of improving the energy resolution and increasing the useful beam current. The main features of the design are: (1) the existing system (conventional mode) is kept in full operation, (2) for the energy loss mode, the electron beam is deflected vertically downwards and then returned to the original beam line by the dispersion matching system, consisting of three dipole magnets and one quadrupole magnet, (3) the dispersion of the beam on the target can be tuned to the dispersion of the spectrometer with the aid of the quadrupole magnet. With the installation…
Directional correlations of some γ-ray cascades in200Hg
1971
Directional correlation functions of 10 γ-ray cascades in200Hg have been measured using a200Tl source and a Ge(Li)-NaI(Tl) coincidence spectrometer arrangement. Values of the mixing parameter δ for several transitions are determined, and the spin assignments for the following levels in200Hg are established (level energies are given in keV): 1029.4 (0+), 1254.2 (2+), 1573.7 (2+), 1593.4 (2+), 1641.5 (2+), 1730.9 (2+) and 1775.6 (3+).
Decay of 14.6 h90Nb
1975
The disintegration of 14.6 h90Nb produced by bombarding natural Zr with 13 MeV protons was investigated by methods of γ-ray spectrometry. Results from singles, coincidence and anti-Compton spectrometer measurements are reported. A decay scheme is proposed including excited states in90Zr at 1761, 2186.4, 2319.1, 2739.4, 2747.9, 3077.0, 3448.2, 3589.5, 3977.1, 4232.4, 4319.5, 4375.4, 4541.6, 5060.0, 5164.6 and 5432.9 keV. Over 10 γ-ray transitions and several levels proposed in an earlier investigation are shown to be in error.
Improved limit on the electron-antineutrino rest mass from tritium ß-decay
1993
Abstract The endpoint region of the β-spectrum of tritium was remeasured by an electrostatic spectrometer with magnetic guiding field. It enabled the search for a rest mass of the electron-antineutrino with improved precision. The result is m2v=−39±34stat±15syst(eV/c2)2, from which an upper limit of mv m( T )−m( 3 He )=18 591±3 eV /c 2 .
Evidence for narrow Δ0(1232) states in the 12 C(e,e'pπ−}11 C Reaction
1999
The reaction 12C(e,e'Δ0)11C →12C(e,e'pπ−)11C was investigated at the Mainz Microtron MAMI in a triple coincidence measurement using the three spectrometer setup of the A1 Collaboration. The good missing mass resolution of σm= 0.27 MeV/c2 allowed to select the events belonging to the ground state of 11C. Cutting on these events the excitation energy spectra of 12CΔ0 show evidence for two peaks of about 4 MeV width (FWHM) at 282 MeV and 296 MeV with a significance of about 4.5 standard deviations. The peaks are interpreted in a simple weak coupling model as bound Δ0 states in 12CΔ0.
High-resolution γ-ray spectroscopy: a versatile tool for nuclear β-decay studies at TRIUMF-ISAC
2005
High-resolution γ-ray spectroscopy is essential to fully exploit the unique, high-quality beams available at the next generation of radioactive ion beam facilities such as the TRIUMF isotope separator and accelerator (ISAC). The 8π spectrometer, which consists of 20 Compton-suppressed HPGe detectors, has recently been reconfigured for a vigorous research programme in weak interaction and nuclear structure physics. With the addition of a variety of ancillary detectors it has become the world's most powerful device dedicated to β-decay studies. This paper provides a brief overview of the apparatus and highlights from recent experiments.
Mass and Γ3π0/Γγγ decay branching ratio of theη-meson from the p(γ, η)p reaction
1995
Near threshold photoproduction ofη-mesons from the proton has been measured at the MAMI accelerator with the TAPS spectrometer. The mass of theη-meson was deduced from the threshold energy forη-photoproduction. The result of m η =(547.12 ± 0.06 ± 0.25) MeV supports the low value of theη-mass reported from a dp →3Heη measurement at SATURNE in 1992. Theη-decay branching ratio Γ3π0/Γγγ was measured to be (0.832±0.005±0.012).
