First trap-assisted decay spectroscopy of the $$^{81}$$Ge ground state

AbstractThe $$\beta $$ β -delayed $$\gamma $$ γ spectroscopy of $$^{81}$$ 81 As has been performed using a purified beam of $$^{81}$$ 81 Ge $$(9/2^+)$$ ( 9 / 2 + ) ground state at the Ion Guide Isotope Separator On-Line facility (IGISOL). The $$^{81}$$ 81 Ge$$^+$$ + ions were produced using proton-induced fission of $$^{232}$$ 232 Th and selected with the double Penning trap JYFLTRAP for the post-trap decay spectroscopy measurements. The low-spin $$(1/2^+)$$ ( 1 / 2 + ) isomeric-state ions $$^{81m}\hbox {Ge}^+$$ 81 m Ge + were not observed in the fission products. Trapped Ion Oscillation Frequencies as Sensors for Spectroscopy

The oscillation frequencies of charged particles in a Penning trap can serve as sensors for spectroscopy when additional field components are introduced to the magnetic and electric fields used for confinement. The presence of so-called "magnetic bottles" and specific electric anharmonicities creates calculable energy-dependences of the oscillation frequencies in the radiofrequency domain which may be used to detect the absorption or emission of photons both in the microwave and optical frequency domains. Cationic microemulsion hosting polynucleotides: Effect of NaCl on host and guest

The structural features of the quaternary water-in-oil microemulsion CTAB/n-hexane/n-pentanol/water in the presence of fairly high concentrations of NaCl and of relatively high molecular weight polynucleotides have been determined. Even in these severe conditions, the hosting system can still be depicted as formed by water droplets stabilised by a surfactant/cosurfactant layer. Moreover, the time stability of the host/guest system has been evaluated and the phase behaviour of the hosting system in the presence of increasing concentrations of NaCl determined.
Surface and Atmospheric Structure on the T Tauri Star V2129 Oph

We provide an overview of a multi-wavelength observing campaign focusing on the accretion and coronal processes in the young star V2129 Oph. V2129 Oph is a classical T Tauri star with a 6.5 day rotation period in the ρ Oph star forming region. On 27-29 June 2009 we obtained two 100 ksec Chandra HETG exposures, aiming at opposite hemispheres of the star. We discuss the X-ray data elsewhere. In order to place the coronal X-ray emission in context, we obtained contemporaneous optical and near-IR photometry and high dispersion optical spectroscopy. We have used here the method of projective representations, more consistent than that of double groups. The NUMEN project @ LNS: Status and perspectives

The NUMEN project aims at accessing experimentally driven information on Nuclear Matrix Elements (NME) involved in the half-life of the neutrinoless double beta decay (0νββ), by high-accuracy measurements of Heavy Ion (HI) induced Double Charge Exchange (DCE) reaction cross sections. In particular, the (18O,18Ne) and (20Ne,20O) reactions are used as tools for β+β+ and β−β− decays, respectively. In the experiments, performed at INFN - Laboratory Nazionali del Sud (LNS) in Catania, the beams are accelerated by the Superconducting Cyclotron (CS) and the reaction ejectiles are detected the MAGNEX magnetic spectrometer.
