Photoluminescence at 1.9 eV in synthetic wet silica

We report the effects of γ-irradiation on the optical activity of wet synthetic silica samples. As a function of γ-dose, the growth of a composite structure in the 4–6 eV spectral region of the absorption spectrum is observed. This structure can be resolved into two main contributions centered at 5.8 and 4.8 eV, respectively. The first component is usually attributed to an optical transition of the E′ centers. The second one is able to excite an emission band centered at 1.9 eV. The analysis of the growth kinetics, in the γ-dose range 20–1000 Mrad, of both emission at 1.9 eV and absorption at 4.8 eV shows that these two bands change in a similar way, reaching constant amplitudes, after an i…

High resolution stimulated Raman spectra (SRS) of the ν1/2ν2 Fermi dyad of CO2 have been recorded in the 0.4–22. amagat density range at 700 K and in the 0.6–16 amagat density range at 900 K. The data have been successfully analyzed with a theoretical model taking into account both rotational line mixing through the energy corrected sudden‐polynomial (ECS‐P) law for the relaxation matrix and vibrational line broadening γv and line shifting δv. Second-order tensorial calibration for kinetic spectrophotometric determination

Abstract Kinetic-diode array spectrophotometric detection, as well as other multichannel techniques when used in non-equilibrium conditions, constitute second-order instrumentation. The second-order response provided will be bilinear, under certain conditions even trilinear, thus allowing the use of the generalized rank annihilation method (GRAM) and the trilinear decomposition method (TLD). Both numerically simulated and experimental data were used to evaluate the performance of these calibration techniques. Periodic Classification of Local Anaesthetics (Procaine Analogues)

Algorithms for classification are proposed based on criteria (information entropyand its production). The feasibility of replacing a given anaesthetic by similar ones in thecomposition of a complex drug is studied. Some local anaesthetics currently in use areclassified using characteristic chemical properties of different portions of their molecules.Many classification algorithms are based on information entropy. Grafting, self-organization and reactivity of double-decker rare-earth phthalocyanine

Unveiling the interplay of semiconducting organic molecules with their environment, such as inorganic materials or atmospheric gas, is the first step to designing hybrid devices with tailored optical, electronic or magnetic properties. The present article focuses on a double-decker lutetium phthalocyanine known as an intrinsic semiconducting molecule, holding a Lu ion in its center, sandwiched between two phthalocyanine rings. Raman scattering in hcp rare gas solids under pressure

We present Raman measurements of hcp rare gas solids (RGSs) at megabar pressures together with lattice dynamics calculations. The ${E}_{2g}$ phonon was measured in Xe up to metallization near 135 GPa and in Ar up to 58 GPa. A comparative analysis of first-principles and semiempirical calculations shows that three-body forces contribute to the energetics at low pressures and that at volume compressions greater than $\ensuremath{\sim}2.6$ higher-order many-body forces become important. The distinct behavior of He under pressure relative to that of the rest of the RGS family is discussed.

Electronic Spectroscopy of C2 in Solid Rare Gas Matrixes

Electronic spectroscopy of the C(2) molecule is investigated in Ar, Kr, and Xe matrixes in the 150-500 nm range. In the Ar matrix, the D ((1)Sigma(u)(+)) <-- ((1)Sigma(g)(+)) Mulliken band near 240 nm is the sole absorption in the UV range, whereas in the Kr matrix additional bands in the 188-209 nm range are assigned to the Kr(n)()(+)C(2)(-) <-- Kr(n)()C(2) charge-transfer absorptions. Because of the formation of a bound C(2)Xe species, the spectral observations in the Xe matrix differ dramatically from the lighter rare gases: the Mulliken band is absent and new bands appear near 300 and 423 nm. Measurement of vibrational line profiles inH2–rare-gas mixtures: Determination of the speed dependence of the line shift

High-resolution inverse Raman experiments for ${\mathrm{H}}_{2}$ diluted in Ar have revealed unusual Q-line profile features at various concentrations which have been interpreted in terms of speed-changing collisions. A more general approach including both speed- and phase-changing collisions has led to an alternative interpretation of these features. In order to further analyze the role of these various collisional mechanisms, new experiments have been performed. Pure ${\mathrm{H}}_{2}$ and ${\mathrm{H}}_{2}$ perturbed by Ne, Ar, and Xe have been investigated at various temperatures between 295 and 800 K.

Microanalytical methods for in-situ high-resolution analysis of rock varnish at the micrometer to nanometer scale

Abstract A wide range of analytical techniques were used to investigate rock varnish from different locations (Negev, Israel; Knersvlakte, South Africa; Death Valley and Mojave Desert, California): a 200 nm-femtosecond laser ablation-inductively coupled plasma-mass spectrometer (LA-ICP-MS), an electron probe microanalyzer (EPMA), focused ion beam (FIB) slicing, and scanning transmission X-ray microscopy–near edge X-ray absorption fine structure spectroscopy (STXM–NEXAFS).
