The electron impact mass spectra of methyl esters of chloro-, bromo-, dichloro-, bromochloro- and dibromo-2-butenoic acids (13 esters at all) have been investigated. Generally, the peaks due to the following fragments are abundant: M+·, [M OCH3]+, [M CH3OH]+·, [M X]+, [M OCH3 CO]+ or [M COOCH3]+, [M X CH3OH]+ or [M OCH3 HX]+, [M OCH3 CO HX]+, [M OCH3 X X]+ and [M OCH3 CO X X]+. Characteristic for the 2- and 4-halo isomers are the primary losses of a methyl radical and methanol, and for the 3-halo isomers the loss of X· from M+·. Disparities between the spectra of the E and Z isomers are shown, the effect of position of halogen substitution being much more pronounced, as reported previously …

The two palladium(II) complexes, [PdL22222][ClO4]2·H2O 1 and [Pd(H−2L22222)]·H2O 2 with 1,11-bis(2-pyridylmethyl)-1,4,8,11-tetraazacyclotetradecane-5,7-dione, L22222, were prepared and characterized by X-ray crystallography and UV-visible spectroscopy. In 1 the palladium centre is co-ordinated by the tertiary amines of the macrocycle and the two pyridylmethyl nitrogens, forming a square-planar geometry in which two amide nitrogen groups remain protonated and do not take part in co-ordination. Moreover, there is a weak interaction between palladium and H(–N(8)) [d(PdII ⋯ H) = 2.90 A]. Abstract A series of adducts of tin(IV) derivatives with 2,2′-azopyridine, AZP, has been studied by Mossbauer and X-ray photoelectronic spectroscopies and the crystal and molecular structure of SnMe2Br2- AZP has been determined. The linear correlation of the Mossbauer parameter isomer shift with partial atomic charge on tin suggests the occurrence of a single homologous series of isostructural adducts. The correlation of the Mossbauer parameter quadrupole splitting and C-Sn-C bond angle permits their calculation in SnMe2X2AZP adducts (X = Cl, Br). The N1s binding energies, obtained by XPS data, pointed out two slightly different values for both pyridinic and azo-group nitrogens. The crystal…

By employing the subcomponent self-assembly approach utilizing 5,10,15,20-tetrakis(4-aminophenyl)porphyrin or its zinc(II) complex, 1H-4-imidazolecarbaldehyde, and either zinc(II) or iron(II) salts, we were able to prepare O-symmetric cages having a confined volume of ca. 1300 Å3 . The use of iron(II) salts yielded coordination cages in the high-spin state at room temperature, manifesting spin-crossover in solution at low temperatures, whereas corresponding zinc(II) salts led to the corresponding diamagnetic analogues. Abstract By means of alternating current electrochemical technique a new tetranuclear crystalline copper(I) complex [Cu I 4 ( L − ) 4 ] ( L − – allyl(5-phenyl-1,3,4-thiadiazol-2-yl)azanide ion) has been obtained and characterized by X-ray single crystal diffraction ( Sp. gr. I 4 1 / a ) and Raman spectroscopy. The metal center adopts linear arrangement, composed of one thiadiazole N atom from the one L − anion and one azanide N atom of the other L − ligand. Self-assembly of metallosupramolecular rhombi from chiral concave 9,9'-spirobifluorene-derived bis(pyridine) ligands.

Two new 9,9’-spirobifluorene-based bis(4-pyridines) were synthesised in enantiopure and one also in racemic form. These ligands act as concave templates and form metallosupramolecular [(dppp)2M2L2] rhombi with cis-protected [(dppp)Pd]2+ and [(dppp)Pt]2+ ions. The self-assembly process of the racemic ligand preferably occurs in a narcissistic self-recognising manner. Hence, a mixture of all three possible stereoisomers [(dppp)2M2{(R)-L}2](OTf)4, [(dppp)2M2{(S)-L}2](OTf)4, and [(dppp)2M2{(R)-L}{(S)-L}](OTf)4 was obtained in an approximate 1.5:1.5:1 ratio which corresponds to an amplification of the homochiral assemblies by a factor of approximately three as evidenced by NMR spectroscopy and m…
Mössbauer study of the solid state configuration of triorganotin derivatives with intramolecular coordination

Triorganotin bromides with intramolecular nitrogen-to-tin coordination (I-VIII, Fig. 1) have been structurally investigated by Mossbauer and infrared spectroscopy. Mossbauer-Zeeman spectra have been measured for I and VIII in order to obtain the sign of the nuclear quadrupole splitting ΔE and the value of the asymmetry parameter η. Point-charge model values of ΔE and η have been calculated for environments of tin atoms in I-VIII which are plausible in view of the results of previous investigations. From trends of experimental ΔE in the series, and from the agreement between experimental and calculated Mossbauer parameters it is concluded that the compounds I-VIII all have trigonal bipyramid…
Steroidal saponins from Chlorophytum orchidastrum.

Six new spirostane-type saponins (1−6), named orchidastrosides A−F, and chloromaloside D were isolated from an ethanol extract of the roots of Chlorophytum orchidastrum. The saponins have neotigogenin or neogitogenin as the aglycon and oligosaccharidic chains possessing seven to nine sugar units. Their structures were elucidated mainly by 2D NMR spectroscopic analyses (COSY, TOCSY, NOESY, HSQC, and HMBC) and FABMS and HRESIMS. Compounds 1−6 were tested for cytotoxicity against two human colon cancer cell lines, HCT 116 and HT-29.

While the compounds adopt a closed-shell butterfly shaped structure in the ground state, a concave-to-convex fluxional dynamic inversion is accessible with a low energy barrier through an open-shell diradicaloid transition-state. Mainly driven by the release of strainattributed to the steric hindrance at the peri position of the anthanthrone core, a low-lying open-shell diradical is accessible through planarization of the core, which can be achieved by thermal excitation in solution.
