Digital Image Analysis Applied to Tumor Cell Proliferation, Aggressiveness, and Migration-Related Protein Synthesis in Neuroblastoma 3D Models

2020

Patient-derived cancer 3D models are a promising tool that will revolutionize personalized cancer therapy but that require previous knowledge of optimal cell growth conditions and the most advantageous parameters to evaluate biomimetic relevance and monitor therapy efficacy. This study aims to establish general guidelines on 3D model characterization phenomena, focusing on neuroblastoma. We generated gelatin-based scaffolds with different stiffness and performed SK-N-BE(2) and SH-SY5Y aggressive neuroblastoma cell cultures, also performing co-cultures with mouse stromal Schwann cell line (SW10). Model characterization by digital image analysis at different time points revealed that cell pro…

Trace determination of 90Sr and 89Sr in environmental samples by collinear resonance ionization spectroscopy

1995

Collinear resonance ionization spectroscopy has been developed as a sensitive technique for fast trace detection of 90Sr and 89Sr in the environment. A detection limit for 90Sr of 107 atoms in the presence of 1017 atoms in the presence of 1017 atoms of stable Strontium has been achieved, while the applicability of the method has been demonstrated on real world samples. After collection and chemical separation, strontium is surface ionized, accelerated to 33keV and mass separated. The ions are neutralized and the emerging fast atoms interact with an argon ion laser beam (γ=364 nm) in a quasi‐collinear geometry. Optical excitation starts from the long‐lived 5s4d3 D2 state of strontium, which …

Fast offline data reduction of laser ablation MC-ICP-MS Sr isotope measurements: Via an interactive Excel-based spreadsheet 'SrDR'

2020

Strontium isotopes are applied to a wide range of scientific fields and to different types of sample materials, providing valuable information foremost about provenance and age, but also on diagenetic processes and mixing relationships between different Sr reservoirs. The development of in-situ analytical techniques, such as laser ablation ICP-MS, has improved our understanding of Sr isotope variability in several field of application, because of the possibility to discriminate small-scale changes and their spatial distribution. However, large outputs of Sr isotope data are produced by laser ablation MC-ICP-MS systems, which necessitate of multiple offline steps to correct and assess the da…

Partial least squares modelization of energy dispersive X-ray fluorescence.

2019

As a proof of concept, a green methodology has been developed for the energy dispersive X-ray fluorescence (ED-XRF) determination of calcium, potassium, iron, magnesium, aluminum, chromium, strontium, phosphorus and nickel in the peel of untreated kaki fruit (Diospyros kaki. L) samples. ED-XRF spectra of fifty-six kakis purchased in the local area of LLombay (Valencia) were obtained directly from samples without any previous treatment and without sample damage just after cleaning the fruit with distilled water. Inductively Couple Plasma Optical Emission Spectrometry (ICP-OES) was used as a reference method to determine the mineral elements after microwave assisted acid digestion. XRF spectr…

Quantitative Detection of Strontium-90 and Strontium-89 in Environmental Samples by Laser Mass Spectrometry

1990

Parallel to the strongly growing public concern about environmental problems, new ideas for trace detection and analysis of toxic and radioactive material are being developed. One of these new and outstanding experimental techniques is the application of analytical laser spectroscopy. Most interesting in this context is the method of resonance ionization spectroscopy (RIS), as proposed1 already in 1972 combining very high sensitivity in the detection of the element or isotope under investigation with high selectivity in the suppression of contaminants2–4.

Spectrochemical Rubidium-Strontium Method for Geological Age Determination

1960

The age values of lepidolites from South Africa and from Varutrask as well as that of a microcline from Varutrask have been determined and are discussed in connection with determination according to the potassium-argon method, applied to the same materials A method is suggested which allows the spectrochemical determination of Rb and Sr with sufficient accuracy. The isotopic composition is determined by means of a Fabry-Perot etalon and hollow-cathode excitation, investigating the hyper-fine structure of the Sr line at 4078 A.

Self-assembled aggregates of amphiphilic perylene diimide-based semiconductor molecules: effect of morphology on conductivity.

2011

Abstract Two amphiphilic perylenetetracarboxylic diimide derivatives modified with different side chains at imide nitrogen, N- n -hexyl-N′-(2-hydroxyethyl)-1,7-di(4′-t-butyl)phenoxy-perylene-3,4:9,10-tetracarboxylic diimide ( PDI 1 ) and N,N′-di(2-hydroxyethyl)-1,7-di(4′-t-butyl)phenoxy-perylene-3,4:9,10-tetracarboxylic diimide ( PDI 2 ), were fabricated into organic nanostructures via solution-phase self-assembly. Their self-assembling properties in methanol and n -hexane have been comparatively studied by electronic absorption, fluorescence, and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR). The morphologies and structures of the self-assemblies were examined by scanning electronic micr…

Photodimers of cinnamic acid and related compounds. A stereochemical study by electron-impact and field desorption mass spectrometry

1974

The low energy (13 eV) electron-impact and field desorption mass spectra of some photodimers of cinnamic acid and related compounds containing the cyclobutane ring are reported and the fragmentation patterns analysed in order to obtain stereochemical information on the substituent position on the cyclobutane ring. Both symmetrical and asymmetrical splittings of the cyclobutane ring were detected, allowing characterisation of the head-to-head and head-to-tail structures of the title compounds. A ring opening rearrangement of the McLafferty type was also found.
