Energetics of Water−Dodecyl Surfactant−Macrocyclic Compound Ternary Systems
1996
Enthalpies of dilution and osmotic coefficients of sodium dodecyl sulfate (NaDS) and dodecyltrimethylammonium bromide (DTAB) in water + 18-crown-6 ether (CR) and water + β-cyclodextrin (CD) at a fixed cosolvent concentration were measured at 298 and 310 K, respectively, as functions of the surfactant concentration (mS). Enthalpies of transfer ΔH (W → W + S) of CR (0.03 m) from water to NaDS and DTAB aqueous solutions as functions of mS were also determined at 298 K. From the enthalpies of dilution the apparent (LΦ,S) and partial (L2,S) molar relative enthalpies of both surfactants were calculated. Despite CR forms inclusion complexes with the anionic surfactant only, the L2,S vs mS profiles…
Capillary electrophoretic and nuclear magnetic resonance studies of interactions between halophenols and ionic liquid or tetraalkylammonium cations.
2003
Aqueous capillary electrophoretic studies were performed to investigate interactions between halophenols and 1-ethyl-3-methylimidazolium tetrafluoroborate or tetraethylammonium tetrafluoroborate electrolytes. In both cases, increased halogen size correlated with increased affinity for the electrolyte cation. For isomers, the ortho substituted isomer exhibited higher affinity than the para isomer. Irreproducible CE results for analyte pairs in the presence of the ionic liquid stimulated investigations of the interactions between halophenols as well as with the cations of the electrolyte. These interactions were explored by proton and fluorine one-dimensional NMR. The NMR results indicated di…
Ship-in-a-Bottle Synthesis of a Large Guest Occupying Two Y Zeolite Neighbour Supercages: Characterisation and Photocatalytic Activity of the Encapsu…
2003
In a series of papers we reported the ship-in-a-bottle synthesis, photochemical properties and photocatalytic applications of 2,4,6-triphenylpyrylium cation (TP ) encapsulated inside the cavities of large pore zeolites Y and Beta. 2] The identity of encapsulated TP was then confirmed spectroscopically, particularly by the match of the IR spectra of the encapsulated organic material and that of the tetrafluoroborate solid of TP (TPBF4). In addition, the electrochemical response of zeolite Y encapsulated TP (TP@Y) consisted of a reversible single reduction process taking place at the same redox potential as that measured for TPBF4 solutions. Encapsulation of TP has a dramatic influence on its…
On the use of ionic liquids as mobile phase additives in high-performance liquid chromatography. A review.
2015
The popularity of ionic liquids (ILs) has grown during the last decades in several analytical separation techniques. Consequently, the number of reports devoted to the applications of ILs is still increasing. This review is focused on the use of ILs (mainly imidazolium-based associated to chloride and tetrafluoroborate) as mobile phase additives in high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC). In this approach, ILs just function as salts, but keep several kinds of intermolecular interactions, which are useful for chromatographic separations. Both cation and anion can be adsorbed on the stationary phase, creating a bilayer. This gives rise to hydrophobic, electrostatic and other specific in…
Binary Mixtures of Ionic Liquids: A Joint Approach to Investigate their Properties and Catalytic Ability
2012
The growing interest in the properties and applications of ionic liquids has recently led to research into the possibility of using their binary mixtures. This work reports on the effects of binary mixtures of ionic liquids on the outcome of organic reactions such as the mononuclear rearrangement of heterocycles and the solvatochromic behavior of Nile Red. Binary mixtures formed by ionic liquids differing in the structure of the cation and the anion are taken into account. In particular, ionic liquids such as 1-benzyl-3- butylimidazolium bis(trifluoromethanesulfonyl)imide, 1-(2,3,4,5,6- pentafluorobenzyl)-3-butylimidazolium bis(trifluoromethanesulfonyl)imide, and 1-benzyl-3-butylimidazolium…
Preparation and characterization of new low melting ammonium-based ionic liquids with ether functionality
2009
Abstract Eighteen new and three previously known but insufficiently characterized RR´3N+A− and R2R´2N+A− type (R = 2-ethoxyethyl or 4-methoxybenzyl, R´ = methyl, ethyl, n-propyl, n-butyl, n-pentyl or n-hexyl, A = Br, BF4 or PF6) quaternary ammonium (QA) salts were synthesized and characterized by using 1H and 13C NMR techniques, mass spectroscopy and elemental analysis. The bromide salts were synthesized either by treating dimethyl formamide with an ether functionalized alkyl bromide in the presence of potassium carbonate or by treating a tertiary amine with an ether functionalized alkyl bromide. The QA tetrafluoroborates and hexafluorophosphates were synthesized by metathesis reaction betw…
Study of Tetragonal Phase in 0.4Na1/2Bi1/2TiO3-(0.6-x)SrTiO3-xPbTiO3Solid Solutions by Second-Harmonic Generation
2015
Description of the local symmetry of relaxor ferroelectrics, especially in connection with nature of polar nanoregions, is one of the key questions in research of relaxor ferroelectrics. Unlike such well-known relaxor ferroelectrics as PbMg1/3Nb2/3O3 and (Pb,La)(Zr0.65Ti0.35)O3, ternary solid solutions 0.4Na1/2Bi1/2TiO3-(0.6-x)SrTiO3-xPbTiO3 show clear coexistence of phases of tetragonal and cubic symmetry, which is established by x-ray diffractometry. Since the second-harmonic generation spectroscopy is a sensitive tool in determination of deviation from symmetry, containing a centre of inversion, it is used as an additional method in characterization of structure in 0.4Na1/2Bi1/2TiO3-(0.6…
Preparation of thin films of the ternary heavy fermion system CeNi 2 Ge 2
1998
Ge2 layers on W(110). In order to produce well-ordered and atomically clean surfaces of the Ce-based intermetallic system the growth was performed under UHV conditions (p<2×10-11 mbar). Both the polycrystalline CeNi2Ge2 compound and the individual elements Ce, Ni, and Ge were used as evaporants. The characterisation of the layers was made with LEED, SEM, and XPS. We find a significant influence of the substrate temperature and the evaporation power on the growth characteristics. The compound material CeNi2Ge2 exhibits complicated behaviour when evaporated. Under carefully selected growth conditions we obtain well-ordered films with a stoichiometry of Ce:Ni:Ge=1:2:2 and a (001) oriented surf…
