Molecular beacon strategies for sensing purpose

2021

Abstract The improvement of nucleic acid probes as vital molecular engineering devices will cause a noteworthy contribution to developments in bioimaging, biosensing, and disorders diagnosis. The molecular beacon (MB) which was designed by Tyagi and Kramer in 1996, are loop-stem hairpin-designed oligonucleotides armed with a quencher and a dye (also named reporter groups) at the 3′ or 5′ ends. This construction allows that MBs in the absence of their target complementary molecules do not fluoresce. Through hybridization with their specific targets a spontaneous configuration change on MBs occur and the dye and quencher separate from each other, resulting in emitting the fluorescence. MBs ar…

Single particle jumps and correlated ionic motions in glass-ceramics

1993

Using impedance spectroscopy, the ion transport in poorly Li-conducting aluminosilicate glass ceramics and their precursor glasses has been measured for temperatures 50 K < T < 550 K and covering a frequency range of more than 14 decades from 10 mHz up to 3 THz. In addition to the familiar cooperative ionic motion dominating at high temperatures, for the first time dielectric relaxation due to elementary hopping processes is observed well below room temperature.

Controlled UV-C light-induced fusion of thiol-passivated gold nanoparticles.

2011

Thiol-passivated gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) of a relatively small size, either decorated with chromophoric groups, such as a phthalimide (Au@PH) and benzophenone (Au@BP), or capped with octadecanethiol (Au@ODCN) have been synthesized and characterized by NMR and UV-vis spectroscopy as well as transmission electron microscopy (TEM). These NPs were irradiated in chloroform at different UV-wavelengths using either a nanosecond laser (266 and 355 nm, ca. 12 mJ/pulse, 10 ns pulse) or conventional lamps (300 nmλ400 nm and ca. 240 nmλ280 nm) and the new AuNPs were characterized by X-ray and UV-vis spectroscopy, as well as by TEM. Laser irradiation at 355 nm led to NP aggregation and precipitation,…

Extruded Expanded Polystyrene Sheets Coated by TiO2 as New Photocatalitic Materials for Foodstuffs Packaging

2012

Nanostructured, photoactive anatase TiO2 sol prepared under very mild conditions using titanium tetraisopropoxide as the precursor is used to functionalise extruded expanded polystyrene (XPS) sheets by spray-coating resulting in stable and active materials functionalised by TiO2 nanoparticles. Photocatalytic tests of these sheets performed in a batch reactor in gas-solid system under UV irradiation show their successful activity in degrading probe molecules (2-propanol, trimethylamine and ethene). Raman spectra ensure the deposition of TiO2 as crystalline anatase phase on the polymer surface. The presence of TiO2 with respect to polymer surface can be observed in SEM images coupled to EDAX …

Molecular structures and vibrations of m-methylaniline in the S0 and S1 states studied by laser induced fluorescence spectroscopy and ab initio calcu…

2000

Abstract The UV fluorescence excitation and dispersed fluorescence spectra of a jet-cooled m-methylaniline have been obtained for the S1←S0 transition, in which some of the bands have been observed for the first time. The main spectral bands have been assigned by comparison with those of other relevant substituted benzenes. It was found that the spectra exhibit an important feature which is the internal rotation of the methyl group in the electronic ground and excited states. Ab initio calculations at MP2/6-31G* and CIS/6-31G* show that the optimized structure of m-methylaniline in the ground state is not planar with the amino group having sp3 hybridation-like character due to the existence…

Intercorrelation between Structural Ordering and Emission Properties in Photoconducting Polymers

2009

We investigated the structural properties of anthracene containing poly(p-phenylene−ethynylene)-alt-poly(p-phenylene−vinylene) polymers with general constitutional unit: (−Ph−C≡C−Anthr−C≡C−Ph−CH═CH−Ph−CH═CH−)n by means of wide-angle X-ray scattering and fluorescence spectroscopy. Interchain interactions were systematically modified by decorating the conjugated polymer backbone with linear or branched or combinations of linear and branched alkoxy side chains. Special emphasis is taken on an evaluation method for fiber scattering spectra that allows the deduction of important structural details of polymer materials with limited degree of order. These include positional correlations along the …

2,4,5-Trimethylimidazolium Scaffold for Anion Recognition Receptors Acting Through Charge-Assisted Aliphatic and Aromatic C–H Interactions

2016

A series of two-armed 2,4,5-trimethylimidazolium-based oxoanion receptors, which incorporate two end-capped photoactive anthracene rings, being the central core an aromatic or heteroaromatic ring, has been designed. In the presence of HP2O7(3-), H2PO4(-), and SO4(2-) anions, (1)H- and (31)P NMR spectroscopical data clearly indicate the simultaneous occurrence of several charge-assisted aliphatic and aromatic C-H noncovalent interactions, i.e., significant downfield shifts were observed for the imidazolium C(2)-CH3 protons, the methylene N-CH2 protons, and the inner aromatic proton or the outer heteroaromatic protons. Density functional theory calculations confirm the occurrence of these non…

Poly(9,10-dihydroanthrylenetrimethylene) (2) comprises a novel chain-type structure in which 9,10-dihydroanthracene units are linked by flexible spacer groups. Upon dehydrogenation with sulfur at elevated temperature, polymer 2 is converted into the corresponding polyanthrylene system 3. NMR- and UV-spectroscopic data provide firm evidence for the dehydrogenation process. The polymer 3 was subjected to reduction with active lithium, and the resulting polyanions were characterized by NMR spectroscopy and by quenching experiments. It appears that each anthracene unit of the chain can be charged with two electrons.

Pressure-Induced Polymerization of Polycyclic Arene-Perfluoroarene Cocrystals: Single Crystal X-ray Diffraction Studies, Reaction Kinetics, and Desig…

2020

Pressure-induced polymerization of aromatic compounds leads to novel materials containing sp3 carbon-bonded networks. The choice of the molecular species and the control of their arrangement in the crystal structures via intermolecular interactions, such as the arene–perfluoroarene interaction, can enable the design of target polymers. We have investigated the crystal structure compression and pressure-induced polymerization reaction kinetics of two polycyclic 1:1 arene–perfluoroarene cocrystals, naphthalene/octafluoronaphthalene (NOFN) and anthracene/octafluoronaphthalene (AOFN), up to 25 and 30 GPa, respectively, using single-crystal synchrotron X-ray diffraction, infrared spectroscopy, a…
