Measurement of the low-energy antideuteron inelastic cross section
2020
In this Letter, we report the first measurement of the inelastic cross section for antideuteron-nucleus interactions at low particle momenta, covering a range of $0.3 \leq p < 4$ GeV/$c$. The measurement is carried out using p-Pb collisions at a center-of-mass energy per nucleon-nucleon pair of $\sqrt{s_{\rm{NN}}}$ = 5.02 TeV, recorded with the ALICE detector at the CERN LHC and utilizing the detector material as an absorber for antideuterons and antiprotons. The extracted raw primary antiparticle-to-particle ratios are compared to the results from detailed ALICE simulations based on the GEANT4 toolkit for the propagation of antiparticles through the detector material. The analysis of th…
Testing effects of Lorentz invariance violation in the propagation of astroparticles with the Pierre Auger Observatory
2021
The successful installation, commissioning, and operation of the Pierre Auger Observatory would not have been possible without the strong commitment and effort from the technical and administrative staff in Malargüe. We are very grateful to the following agencies and organizations for financial support: Argentina — Comisión Nacional de Energía Atómica; Agencia Nacional de Promoción Científica y Tecnológica (ANPCyT); Consejo Nacional de Investigaciones Científicas y Técnicas (CONICET); Gobierno de la Provincia de Mendoza; Municipalidad de Malargüe; NDM Holdings and Valle Las Leñas; in gratitude for their continuing cooperation over land access; Australia — the Australian Research Council; Be…
A Preliminary Study on Photic Driving in the Electroencephalogram of Children with Autism across a Wide Cognitive and Behavioral Range.
2022
Intermittent photic stimulation (IPS) is a useful technique in electroencephalography (EEG) to investigate the neurophysiological anomalies of brain activity. Although not an active task, IPS has also been explored in ASD; it is thought to capture local potential oscillators at specific frequencies and perhaps tap into rhythmic activity in a way that general resting-state recordings cannot. Previous studies suggest that individuals with ASD showed photic driving reactivity predominantly at lower frequencies of stimulation. In our study we used IPS to measure rhythmic oscillatory activity in a sample of 81 ASD children. We found a significant correlation linking ASD children with photic driv…

Spectral analysis and quantum chaos in two-dimensional nanostructures
2015
This thesis describes a study into the eigenvalues and eigenstates of twodimensional (2D) quantum systems. The research is summarized in four scientific publications by the author. The underlying motivation for this work is the grand question of quantum chaos: how does chaos, as known in classical mechanics, manifest in quantum mechanics? The search and analysis of these quantum fingerprints of chaos requires efficient numerical tools and methods, the development of which is given a special emphasis in this thesis. The first publication in this thesis concerns the eigenspectrum analysis of a nanoscale device. It is shown that a measured addition energy spectrum can be explained by a simple …
Acquisition of english as a second language by students with Asperger Syndrome: a theoretical approach
2015
Comprehension of Generalized Conversational Implicatures by Children With and Without Autism Spectrum Disorder
2018
This study evaluates the comprehension of generalized conversational implicatures (GCI) in children with and without autism spectrum disorder (ASD), using a GCI test constructed based on the Levinson model, which distinguishes between three types of implicatures: type Q (or scalar: “what is not referred to does not occur”); type I (“by default, it is not necessary to say what can be assumed”); and type M (“if someone is expressing something in a not very simple or marked way, it is because s/he is describing a situation that is not very typical, frequent, or prototypical”). In addition to the ASD group (n = 22), two comparison groups were utilized: a group matched on chronological age with …
Interventions for Improving Reading Comprehension in Children with ASD: A Systematic Review.
2021
Children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) often have comorbid learning difficulties in reading comprehension, an essential skill in accessing any area of the curriculum. The aim of this systematic review is to analyze the effectiveness of reading comprehension interventions in students with ASD. We conducted a search for scientific articles published from 2000 to 2019 using the keyword “autis*” in combination with the terms “reading comprehension” and “intervention” or “instruction” in Psyc Info and Scopus databases. After applying inclusion and exclusion criteria, a total of 25 studies were selected. The content analysis of these studies shows that when specific interventions are carrie…
Social Cognition in Children with High-Functioning Autism Spectrum Disorder and Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder. Associations with Executive…
2017
Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) are neurodevelopmental disorders characterized by social impairments. The first objective of this study was to analyze social cognition deficits of children with ADHD, high-functioning ASD (HFASD), and typical development (TD) in their performance on explicit and applied measures of theory of mind (ToM). The second objective was to investigate the relationships between executive functions and social cognition in HFASD and ADHD. One hundred and twenty-six 7- to 11-year old children, 52 with HFASD, 35 with ADHD, and 39 with TD, performed the NEPSY-II social perception subtests. Parents estimated their children’…
Electrodeposition and characterization of Mo oxide nanostructures
2015
Template electrodeposition has been used to grow uniform arrays of molybdenum oxide nanostructures in polycarbonate membrane. Several parameters have been investigated, like electrodeposition, time and solution pH. These parameters do not influence the nature of the deposit that always consists of mixed valence molybdenum oxides, whereas the nanostructure morphology changes with pH. In particular, at low pH (2.7), nanotubes are formed, whilst arrays of nanowires are obtained above pH 5.5. This change of morphology is likely due to H2 bubbles evolution during the electrochemical deposition, particularly occurring at low pH. It was found that fast removal of H2 bubbles through vigorous stirri…
