The essay focuses on the film Le mani sulla citta (Hands on the city, 1963) by Francesco Rosi. The film, set in Naples, explores some significant aspects of the Italian "Reconstruction" after the end of the Second World War and offers interesting insights. The Dynamics of Currency Substitution: Evidence from UK Foreign Currency Balances

This study evaluates the magnitude of the permanent and the transitory components of currency substitution in the UK. The results indicate that the permanent component, the ratchet effect, accounted only for a small share while the aggregate temporary component, speculation, whose impact lasts about one month, was responsible for most of the dynamics of UK currency substitution. The findings thus lend support to the view that at worst currency substitution would only cause short-run problems for the UK economy.

Terrorists do not want to destroy or to kill everybody, their goal is aimed to inflict and administrate fear to the witnesses. The fact is that tourism and mega-events represented a fertile source to perpetrate terrorist attacks, not only for the casualties but also by the psychological effects on citizenry. This paper explores the nature of terrorism in the context of leisure as well as proposing a valid model to understand the connection among tourism, event management and terrorism.

The essay analyzes the occurrences, in ancient Greek texts, of the nexus λόγῳ (or διὰ λόγου) θεωρητόν, referring to entities that can be object of observation or speculation through the λόγος, as opposed to what is observable through sensation/perception (αἴσθησις). Attested with certainty for the first time in Epicurus’ Letter to Herodotus in con- nection with the theory of time, the concept, in later doxographers, is already connected to the physical theories of Democritus and Anaxagoras. Applied in various areas of ancient science anf philosophy, the principle of ‘theoretical observability’ (or ‘conceivability through logos’) will find a particularly fertile ground for development…
