Misfire Detection System based on the Measure of Crankshaft Angular Velocity

Misfire detection systems are becoming increasingly important in automotive market due to recent environmental issues (Euro rules). An early misfire diagnosis also allows to prevent damages to the exhaust emission system and consequent costs for the user. Today few low cost methods exists in order to precisely detect single misfires in real time, the majority in fact require the use of expensive sensors (e.g. pressure sensors) or dedicated circuits (e.g. ionization current sensing). A DSP-Based Resolver-To-Digital Converter for High-Performance Electrical Drive Applications

This paper presents a low cost, simple, and highly accurate resolver-to-digital converter (RDC) for electrical drive applications based on an integrated software approach, thus allowing a significant reduction of hardware components count with significant improvements in terms of reliability, reduction of fault rate, and susceptibility to electromagnetic interference (EMI). Particular attention has been addressed to cost which is 25% off over conventional RDC. Simulations and experimental tests confirm the high quality of the proposed system.

Coupled hydraulic and electronic regulation of cross-flow turbines in hydraulic plants

The potential benefit of coupling hydraulic and electronic regulation to maximize the energy production of a cross-flow turbine in hydraulic plants is analyzed and computed with reference to a specific case. Design criteria of the cross-flow turbine inside hydraulic plants are first summarized, along with the use of hydraulic regulation in the case of constant water head and variable discharge. Slotted Blades Savonius Wind Turbine Analysis by CFD

In this paper a new bucket configuration for a Savonius wind generator is proposed. Numerical analyses are performed to estimate the performances of the proposed configuration by means of the commercial code COMSOL Multiphysics® with respect to Savonius wind turbine with overlap only. Parametric analyses are performed, for a fixed overlap ratio, by varying the slot position; the results show that for slot positioned near the blade root, the Savonius rotor improves performances at low tip speed ratio, evidencing a better starting torque. This paper describes the realization of a two-degrees of freedom induction motor prototype with rotor helical motion, suitable for several industrial applications as grinders, augers, drilling and milling spindles, robotic arms and drives for medical tools and prostheses. Sensorless low Range Speed Estimation and Parameter Identification of Induction Motor Drives Devoted to Lifts Automatic Rescue Devices

In this paper a sensorless rotor speed estimation and parameter identification algorithm is presented. The algorithm is designed specifically for induction motor (IM) drives devoted to automatic rescue devices (ARD) used in lifts and hoist applications. Its peculiarity is that it is based on the sinusoidal steady state mathematical model of the IM and, therefore, can be implemented on a low cost micro-controller in a simple way, however without lacking in terms of dynamic performance. This paper describes an experimental investigation on the power losses variations occurring in an Interior Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor (IPMSM) with respect to the direct axis current component.
