Discrete lineγ-ray spectroscopy in the(50–60)ħspin domain of161,162Er

2000

Very high spin states $(I=50--60\ensuremath{\Elzxh})$ have been observed in the transitional nuclei ${}^{161}\mathrm{Er}$ and ${}^{162}\mathrm{Er}$ using the Euroball $\ensuremath{\gamma}$-ray spectrometer. In ${}^{161}\mathrm{Er},$ three bands are observed well above spin $50\ensuremath{\Elzxh}.$ In the positive parity, positive signature $(+,+\frac{1}{2})$ band a discontinuity in the regular rotational behavior occurs at ${\frac{109}{2}}^{+}$ and a splitting into two branches occurs at ${\frac{97}{2}}^{\ensuremath{-}}$ in the negative parity, positive signature $(\ensuremath{-},+\frac{1}{2})$ band. The $(\ensuremath{-},\ensuremath{-}\frac{1}{2})$ band continues in a regular fashion to ${\…

Signatures of oblate deformation in the ^{111}Tc nucleus

2011

Monoisotopic samples of exotic, neutron-rich ${}^{111}$Mo nuclei, produced in the deuteron-induced fission of ${}^{238}$U and separated using the IGISOL3 isotope separator, coupled to the JYFLTRAP Penning trap, were used to perform $\ensuremath{\beta}$- and $\ensuremath{\gamma}$-coincidence spectroscopy of ${}^{111}$Tc. New excited levels in ${}^{111}$Tc populated in ${\ensuremath{\beta}}^{\ensuremath{-}}$ decay of ${}^{111}$Mo provide the first indication for an oblate deformation in the mass $A\ensuremath{\approx}110$ region. The wide spin range of levels populated in ${}^{111}$Tc following the decay of ${}^{111}$Mo indicates the existence of two $\ensuremath{\beta}$-decaying levels in ${…

Collectivity and Configuration Mixing inPb186,188andPo194

2006

Lifetimes of prolate intruder states in {sup 186}Pb and oblate intruder states in {sup 194}Po have been determined by employing, for the first time, the recoil-decay tagging technique in recoil distance Doppler-shift lifetime measurements. In addition, lifetime measurements of prolate states in {sup 188}Pb up to the 8{sup +} state were carried out using the recoil-gating method. The B(E2) values have been deduced from which deformation parameters vertical bar {beta}{sub 2} vertical bar =0.29(5) and vertical bar {beta}{sub 2} vertical bar =0.17(3) for the prolate and the oblate bands, respectively, have been extracted. The results also shed new light on the mixing between different shapes.

Coexisting structures in 119I

1997

Abstract High-spin structures of 119 I have been studied by using 13 C and 15 N induced reactions. In all, fifteen ΔI = 1 or 2 bands belonging to 119 I were found. No evidence was found for bands with collective oblate shape, instead, all the observed rotational bands were interpreted to possess a collective prolate shape. A rich tapestry of noncollective states of both negative and positive parity was observed. Based on TRS calculations various configurations at β 2 ≈ 0.17 and γ = 60° were assigned to these states.

The role of the shape driving neutron orbital in 108Cd

1993

Abstract The nucleus 108Cd has been studied using a heavy-ion reaction and the NORDBALL multi-detector array. The yrast band has been extended to Ip = 24+, and nine quasi-rotational side bands have been identified. The n h 11 2 negative-parity orbital is found to play a dominant role both in the low-spin as well as in the high-spin structure of 108Cd. The first band crossing in the yrast band is caused by the h 11 2 neutrons. The 10+ state of the aligned n( h 11 2 ) 2 configuration decays strongly into a low-lying low-spin intruder-like positive-parity band. It is suggested that this intruder structure is dominated by a non-aligned n( h 11 2 ) 2 configuration. For the first time in this mas…

Shape ofAr44: Onset of deformation in neutron-rich nuclei nearCa48

2009

The development of deformation and shape coexistence in the vicinity of doubly magic $^{48}\mathrm{Ca}$, related to the weakening of the $N=28$ shell closure, was addressed in a low-energy Coulomb excitation experiment using a radioactive $^{44}\mathrm{Ar}$ beam from the SPIRAL facility at GANIL. The ${2}_{1}^{+}$ and ${2}_{2}^{+}$ states in $^{44}\mathrm{Ar}$ were excited on $^{208}\mathrm{Pb}$ and $^{109}\mathrm{Ag}$ targets at two different beam energies. $B(E2)$ values between all observed states and the spectroscopic quadrupole moment of the ${2}_{1}^{+}$ state were extracted from the differential Coulomb excitation cross sections, indicating a prolate shape of the $^{44}\mathrm{Ar}$ n…

Simultaneous investigation of the T=1(Jπ=0+) and T=0(Jπ=9+) β decays in Br70

2017

The $\beta$ decay of the odd-odd nucleus $^{70}$Br has been investigated with the BigRIPS and EURICA setups at the Radioactive Ion Beam Factory (RIBF) of the RIKEN Nishina Center. The $T=0$ ($J^{\pi}=9^+$) and $T=1$ ($J^{\pi}=0^+$) isomers have both been produced in in-flight fragmentation of $^{78}$Kr with ratios of 41.6(8)\% and 58.4(8)\%, respectively. A half-life of $t_{1/2}=2157^{+53}_{-49}$ ms has been measured for the $J^{\pi}=9^+$ isomer from $\gamma$-ray time decay analysis. Based on this result, we provide a new value of the half-life for the $J^{\pi}=0^+$ ground state of $^{70}$Br, $t_{1/2}=78.42\pm0.51$ ms, which is slightly more precise, and in excellent agreement, with the bes…

γ-ray and decay spectroscopy of194,195,196At

2013

Excited states of ${}^{195}$At have been studied by means of in-beam $\ensuremath{\gamma}$-ray spectroscopy and the recoil-decay tagging technique. A strongly coupled rotational band feeding the $\ensuremath{\alpha}$-decaying $7/{2}^{\ensuremath{-}}$ state via unobserved transitions was identified. This band is presumably built on the oblate proton ${I}^{\ensuremath{\pi}}=13/{2}^{+}$ state. Confirming earlier measurements, $\ensuremath{\alpha}$ decays from the $1/{2}^{+}$ and $7/{2}^{\ensuremath{-}}$ states were observed. Additionally, an $E3$ branch competing with the $\ensuremath{\alpha}$ decay of the $7/{2}^{\ensuremath{-}}$ state was inferred. Also $\ensuremath{\alpha}$ decays of the od…

Study of Intermediate-spin States of $^{98}$Y

2015

The nuclear structure of the odd–odd nucleus 98Y has been re-investigated by observing prompt γ rays emitted following the proton-induced fission of a 238U target, using the JUROGAM-II multidetector array. New highspin decays have been observed and placed in the level schemes using triple coincidences. The experimental level energies and γ-decay patterns are compared to GICM and QPRM calculations, assuming that this neutronrich N = 59 isotone is spherical at low energies and prolate deformed at intermediate spins. Collective rotation of an oblate nucleus at very high spin

2019

International audience; A sequence of nine almost equidistant quadrupole transitions is observed in Nd137. The sequence represents an extremely regular rotational band that extends to a spin of about 75/2 and an excitation energy of ≈4.5MeV above yrast. Cranked mean-field calculations of the Nilsson-Strutinsky type suggest an oblate shape for the band. They reproduce the observed I(I+1) dependence of the rotational energy whereas predicting a pronounced decrease in the deformation, which is the hallmark of antimagnetic rotation.
