Among all the solutions proposed to treat this new strain of coronavirus, named SARS-CoV-2, the vaccine seems a promising way but the delays are too long to be implemented quickly. In the emergency, a dual therapy has shown its effectiveness but has also provoked a set of debates around the dangerousness of a particular molecule, hydroxychloroquine. The infectious process initiates via binding of SARS-CoV-2 Spike (S) glycoprotein to host angiotensin-converting enzyme 2 (ACE2). Insights in ChAdOx1 nCoV-19 vaccine-induced immune thrombotic thrombocytopenia

Abstract SARS-CoV-2 vaccine ChAdOx1 nCoV-19 (AstraZeneca) causes a thromboembolic complication termed vaccine-induced immune thrombotic thrombocytopenia (VITT). Using biophysical techniques, mouse models, and analysis of VITT patient samples, we identified determinants of this vaccine-induced adverse reaction. Super-resolution microscopy visualized vaccine components forming antigenic complexes with platelet factor 4 (PF4) on platelet surfaces to which anti-PF4 antibodies obtained from VITT patients bound. An Application of Spike-Timing-Dependent Plasticity to Readout Circuit for Liquid State Machine

Liquid state machine (LSM) is a neural system based on spiking neurons that implements a mapping between functions of time. A typical application of LSM is classification of time functions obtained observing the state of the liquid by using a memoryless readout circuit, usually implemented by a linear perceptron. Due to the high number of neurons in the liquid the training of the readout is difficult. Due to the widespread of the COVID-19 pandemic, the SARS-CoV-2 genome is evolving in diverse human populations. Several studies already reported different strains and an increase in the mutation rate. Particularly, mutations in SARS-CoV-2 spike-glycoprotein are of great interest as it mediates infection in human and recently approved mRNA vaccines are designed to induce immune responses against it. We analyzed 1,036,030 SARS-CoV-2 genome assemblies and 30,806 NGS datasets from GISAID and European Nucleotide Archive (ENA) focusing on non-synonymous mutations in the spike protein. Diagenetic alteration of fossil reef corals may have severe effects on the reliability of 230Th/U-ages. The widely applied criteria introduced to test for the reliability of coral 230Th/U-ages are often not sufficient to identify all altered ages. The combination of 230Th/U- with 231Pa/U-dating has been suggested as a promising method to identify altered ages. Furthermore, 226Ra/230Th ratios can provide information about the diagenetic history during the last 10 000 years.
