Schematic and realistic model calculations of the isovector spin monopole excitations in 116In

The excitation of Gamow-Teller (GT) and isovector spin monopole (IVSM) Jπ=1+ modes in 116In by (p,n) and (n,p) charge-exchange reactions on 116Cd and on 116Sn, respectively, is studied within the framework of the quasiparticle random-phase approximation. The calculations have been performed both for schematic and realistic model situations. It appears that the calculated admixture of the IVSM and Gamow-Teller (GT) Jπ=1+ excitations is negligible and that the contribution to the strength above 20 MeV of excitation energy, in 116In, is due to the IVSM (σr2t ±) mode. Spin asymmetriesA1of the proton and the deuteron in the lowxand lowQ2region from polarized high energy muon scattering

We present the results of the spin asymmetries (Formula presented) of the proton and the deuteron in the kinematic region extending down to (Formula presented) and (Formula presented) The data were taken with a dedicated low x trigger, which required hadron detection in addition to the scattered muon, so as to reduce the background at low x. The results complement our previous measurements and the two sets are consistent in the overlap region. No significant spin effects are found in the newly explored region. © 1999 The American Physical Society.

Scattering of Strongly Interacting Particles on Nuclei

This chapter deals with the interaction of strongly interacting particles (hadrons) with nuclei, at low and intermediate energies. The hadronic projectiles are used as probes of nuclear properties and of the hadron-nucleon interaction in the nuclear medium, and they are selected accordingly. We discuss mainly the case of pions, to some extent also kaons, because of the specific properties of the pion-(kaon)-nucleon system. Some of the methods and results can also be applied to nucleons if these are chosen to be projectiles, but we do not go into the full complexity of the spin analysis of the nucleon-nucleon system. Discovery of a Transition to Global Spin-up in EXO 2030+375

EXO 2030+375, a 42-second transient X-ray pulsar with a Be star companion, has been observed to undergo an outburst at nearly every periastron passage for the last 13.5 years. From 1994 through 2002, the global trend in the pulsar spin frequency was spin-down. Using RXTE data from 2003 September, we have observed a transition to global spin-up in EXO 2030+375. Although the spin frequency observations are sparse, the relative spin-up between 2002 June and 2003 September observations, along with an overall brightening of the outbursts since mid 2002 observed with the RXTE ASM, accompanied by an increase in density of the Be disk, indicated by infrared magnitudes, suggest that the pattern obse…

Parallel implementation of the MAGPACK package for the analysis of high-nuclearity spin clusters

Abstract Molecular clusters are formed by a finite number of exchange-coupled paramagnetic centers and they are model systems between molecules and extended solids. In order to simulate their properties and extrapolate to solids, the size of the systems to be treated should be as large as possible. In this context, the use of efficient parallel codes is essential. We present the parallel programs ParAni and ParIso , for anisotropic and isotropic models, that enable the calculation of large energy matrices in parallel and the subsequent computation of the relevant spectral information. Second harmonic generation by an isolated spin

Abstract The second harmonic generation at microwave frequency by a spin S = 1 2 in a cavity has been studied as a function of the external magnetic field using a resolvent technique, and the average transition rates to states with an increased number of double-frequency photons has been calculated. In spite of the crudeness of the model, a good qualitative agreement has been found between the predictions of the present theory and recent experimental results on non-linear behaviour of paramagnetic spin systems in a microwave field.

GW190521 as a Merger of Proca Stars: A Potential New Vector Boson of 8.7×10−13  eV

Advanced LIGO-Virgo have reported a short gravitational-wave signal (GW190521) interpreted as a quasicircular merger of black holes, one at least populating the pair-instability supernova gap, that formed a remnant black hole of ${M}_{f}\ensuremath{\sim}142\text{ }\text{ }{M}_{\ensuremath{\bigodot}}$ at a luminosity distance of ${d}_{L}\ensuremath{\sim}5.3\text{ }\text{ }\mathrm{Gpc}$. With barely visible pre-merger emission, however, GW190521 merits further investigation of the pre-merger dynamics and even of the very nature of the colliding objects. Model-Independent Determination of the Spin of the Ω− and Its Polarization Alignment in ψ(3686)→Ω−Ω¯+

We present an analysis of the process $\psi(3686) \to \Omega^- \bar{\Omega}^+$ ($\Omega^-\to K^-\Lambda$, $\bar{\Omega}^+\to K^+\bar{\Lambda}$, $\Lambda\to p\pi^-$, $\bar{\Lambda}\to \bar{p}\pi^+$) based on a data set of $448\times 10^6$ $\psi(3686)$ decays collected with the BESIII detector at the BEPCII electron-positron collider. The helicity amplitudes for the process $\psi(3686) \to \Omega^- \bar{\Omega}^+$ and the decay parameters of the subsequent decay $\Omega^-\to K^-\Lambda$ $(\bar{\Omega}^+\to K^+\bar{\Lambda})$ are measured for the first time by a fit to the angular distribution of the complete decay chain. Evaluation of the forward Compton scattering off protons. II. Spin-dependent amplitude and observables

The forward Compton scattering off the proton is determined by substituting the empirical total photoabsorption cross sections into dispersive sum rules. In addition to the spin-independent amplitude evaluated previously [Phys. Rev. D 92, 074031 (2015)], we obtain the spin-dependent amplitude over a broad energy range. The two amplitudes contain all the information about this process, and we, hence, can reconstruct the nonvanishing observables of the proton Compton scattering in the forward kinematics. Photoproduction of thef2′(1525), a2(1320), andK2*(1430)

Assuming that the ${f}_{2}^{\ensuremath{'}}(1525), {a}_{2}(1320)$, and ${K}_{2}^{*}(1430)$ resonances are dynamically generated states from vector-meson--vector-meson interactions in the $s$-wave with spin $S=2$, we study the $\ensuremath{\gamma}p\ensuremath{\rightarrow}{f}_{2}^{\ensuremath{'}}(1525)p, \ensuremath{\gamma}p\ensuremath{\rightarrow}{a}_{2}^{0}(1320)p$, and $\ensuremath{\gamma}p\ensuremath{\rightarrow}{K}_{2}^{*}(1430)\mathrm{\ensuremath{\Lambda}}(\mathrm{\ensuremath{\Sigma}})$ reactions.
