Constraints on mantle source and interactions from He-Sr isotope variation in Italian Plio-Quaternary volcanism

2008

[1] Helium isotope ratios of olivine and pyroxene phenocrysts from Plio-Quaternary volcanic rocks from southern Italy (seven Aeolian Islands, Mt. Vulture, Etna, Ustica, and Pantelleria) range from 2.3 to 7.1 Ra. Importantly, the phenocryst 3He/4He correlate well with whole rock Sr isotopic composition (0.70309–0.70711), reflecting the mixing of two sources. A significant contribution of He from crustal contamination is recorded only occasionally (e.g., pyroxenes from Vulcano). When merged with data from the Roman Comagmatic Province, a remarkably strong near-linear He-Sr isotope correlation is apparent. The general northward decrease in 3He/4He corresponds to an increase in 87Sr/86Sr (and a…

Commercial sharks under scrutiny: Baseline genetic distinctiveness supports structured populations of small-spotted catsharks in the Mediterranean Sea

2023

The present study, based on microsatellite markers, describes a population genetic analysis of the small-spotted catshark Scyliorhinus canicula (Linnaeus, 1758), representing one of the most abundant and commonly caught cartilaginous fishes in the Mediterranean Sea and adjacent areas. The analyses were performed to unravel the genetic features (variability, connectivity, sex-biased dispersal) of their relative geographic populations, both at the small (around the coast of Sardinia, Western Mediterranean Sea) and at a larger spatial scale (pan-Mediterranean level and between the Atlantic Ocean and the Mediterranean Sea). Individual clustering, multivariate and variance analyses rejected the …

Membrane insertion and topology of the p7B movement protein of Melon Necrotic Spot Virus (MNSV)

2007

AbstractCell-to-cell movement of the Melon Necrotic Spot Virus (MNSV) is controlled by two small proteins working in trans, an RNA-binding protein (p7A) and an integral membrane protein (p7B) separated by an amber stop codon. p7B contains a single hydrophobic region. Membrane integration of this region was observed when inserted into model proteins in the presence of microsomal membranes. Furthermore, we explored the topology and targeting mechanisms of full-length p7B. Here we present evidence that p7B integrates in vitro into the ER membrane cotranslationally and with an Nt-cytoplasmic/Ct-luminal orientation. The observed topology was monitored in vivo by fusing GFP to the Ct of p7B, enab…

Quantification of CD8+ T lymphocytes responsive to human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) peptide antigens in HIV-infected patients and seronegative pers…

1998

/ T cells responding to HIV-1 peptides were observed in none of 11 HIV- seronegative donors without a history of HIV exposure. ELISPOT assays are relatively fast and easy to perform and appear to reliably detect T cell reactivity due to previous exposure to HIV. These findings support the use of the ELISPOT assay for monitoring T cell responsiveness to HIV peptides. In acute infection with the human immunodeficiency virus We described recently an enzyme-linked immunospot (ELISPOT) assay to detect and quantitate single blood-de- type 1 (HIV-1), initial reduction in virus load is associated with the appearance of a high frequency of antiviral cytotoxic T rived CD8 / T lymphocytes forming tumo…

Dissimilar laser welding of AISI 316L stainless steel to Ti6–Al4–6V alloy via pure vanadium interlayer

2015

Abstract Successful continuous laser joining of AISI 316L stainless steel with Ti6Al4V titanium alloy through pure vanadium interlayer has been performed. Three welding configurations were tested: one-pass welding involving all three materials and two pass and double spot welding involving creation of two melted zones separated by remaining solid vanadium. For the most relevant welds, the investigation of microstructure, phase content and mechanical properties has been carried out. In case of formation of a single melted zone, the insertion of steel elements into V-based solid solution embrittles the weld. In case of creation of two separated melted zones, the mechanical resistance of the j…

Cellular and humoral immune responses induced by intradermal or intramuscular vaccination with the major hepatitis B surface antigen

2000

The vaccination route may influence the success of immunization against pathogens. The conventional intramuscular (i.m.) application of a vaccine containing the hepatitis B virus (HBV) surface antigen (HBsAg) led to protective anti-HBs antibody levels in the majority of vaccine recipients. In this study, we vaccinated healthy volunteers and a group of i.m. vaccine nonresponders via the intradermal (i.d.) route and analyzed the HBV-specific B-cell response as well as class-II- and class-I-restricted T-cell responses by 3 H-thymidine uptake, enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) and enzyme-linked immunospot assay (ELISPOT). The results were then compared with i.m. vaccinated controls. I.d…

Clinical and immunological efficacy of intradermal vaccine plus lamivudine with or without interleukin-2 in patients with chronic hepatitis B

2002

To evaluate therapeutic immunostimulation nine chronic hepatitis B patients received six monthly intradermal vaccinations with HBsAg in combination with daily lamivudine. Another five patients received six doses of the vaccine and daily lamivudine together with daily Interleukin-2 (IL-2) s.c. within 3 months in an open-labeled trial. Clinical efficacy was assessed by alanine transaminase levels and HBV serology. The induction of specific T and B cell responses was analyzed serially by 3H-thymidine uptake, ELISA and ELISPOT assays. After the therapy was stopped, seven of nine vaccine/lamivudine and two of five vaccine/lamivudine/IL-2 recipients did not have detectable HBV DNA. Four complete …

Massive neutrinos and cosmology

2006

The present experimental results on neutrino flavour oscillations provide evidence for non-zero neutrino masses, but give no hint on their absolute mass scale, which is the target of beta decay and neutrinoless double-beta decay experiments. Crucial complementary information on neutrino masses can be obtained from the analysis of data on cosmological observables, such as the anisotropies of the cosmic microwave background or the distribution of large-scale structure. In this review we describe in detail how free-streaming massive neutrinos affect the evolution of cosmological perturbations. We summarize the current bounds on the sum of neutrino masses that can be derived from various combin…

Java integrāciju optimizācijas iespējas

2017
