Pepino mosaic virus (PepMV), a member of the genus Potexvirus , was first described in 1980 on pepino ( Solanum muricatum ) and was later isolated from different wild species of the genus Solanum (formerly Lycopersicon ) (Soler et al ., 2002). PepMV has been reported in several European countries and in North America, causing disease in tomato. In July 2008, plants of basil ( Ocimum basilicum ) showing interveinal chlorosis on young leaves were observed in three greenhouses in Sicily, in the area where tomato plants were found to be infected by PepMV in 2005 (Davino et al ., 2006). Mammal assemblage composition predicts global patterns in emerging infectious disease risk

Abstract As a source of emerging infectious diseases, wildlife assemblages (and related spatial patterns) must be quantitatively assessed to help identify high‐risk locations. Previous assessments have largely focussed on the distributions of individual species; however, transmission dynamics are expected to depend on assemblage composition. Correlated gluonic hot spots meet symmetric cumulants data at LHC energies

We present a systematic study on the influence of spatial correlations between the proton constituents, in our case gluonic hot spots, their size and their number on the symmetric cumulant SC(2, 3), at the eccentricity level, within a Monte Carlo Glauber framework [1]. When modeling the proton as composed by 3 gluonic hot spots, the most common assumption in the literature, we find that the inclusion of spatial correlations is indispensable to reproduce the negative sign of SC(2, 3) in the highest centrality bins as dictated by data. Application of TLC and GC-MS to the detection of capsaicin from hot peppers(Capsicum annuum)

Capsaicin was extracted from red hot pepper (Capsicum annuum) fruits and from commercial red hot pepper powder and separated on silica gel 60 plates with concentration zone (Merck); toluene-acetone-chloroform, 45 + 30 + 25 ( v/v ), was used as mobile phase. Detection was performed by exposure to iodine vapor. The spots assumed to arise from capsaicin were removed from the plate and the components were extracted with chloroform. The extracts were analyzed by gas chromatography combined with mass spectrometry.

First Report of Tomato torrado virus Infecting Tomato in Italy.

In 2009 and 2010, approximately 2% of plants had disease symptoms, including initial leaflet chlorosis that later developed into necrotic spots and general necroses along the leaflet. Fruit production on affected plants was substantially reduced and necroses were also present. Total RNA was extracted from five symptomatic plant samples using the RNeasy Plant Mini Kit (Qiagen, Hilden, Germany) and analyzed by reverse transcription (RT)-PCR with specific primer pair: TR2F (5′ GAAGGACGAAGAGCGACTG 3′), and TR2R (5′ AAGGTAGGTATGCGTTTGC 3′) (1). Correcting the effect of stellar spots on ARIEL transmission spectra

The goal of this study is to assess the impact of the stellar spots on the extraction of the planetary transmission spectra observed by ARIEL. We develop a method to model the stellar spectrum of a star in the presence of spots by using the out-of-transit observations. It is based on a chi squared minimization procedure of the out-of-transit spectrum on a grid of stellar spectra with different sizes and temperatures of the spots. The approach allows us also to study the temporal evolution of the spots when comparing stellar spectra observed at different epochs.
